Do you holiday in the same location every year?

Our friends have stayed in the same location and same hotel every year for around 20 years. When we were younger we were quite adventurous but now feel like staying somewhere familiar which makes us feel comfortable. Perhaps our friends have got it right! Going somewhere that we know is like wrapping a warm blanket around ourselves. Knowing an area quite well can have its advantages, we don't have to think about what to see and do or where to eat, we can simply relax and enjoy ourselves. How about you do you still like to visit new places or are you satisfied with what you feel familiar with?

Absolutely not.
But everyone has to do what they like to do.

DD2 has been to New York (holiday) 40, yes 40 times!
She’s besotted with it - has stayed in about 10 different hotels. Lots of new attractions appear every year.

It works for her and I’m hoping to go off there with her next year,

What’s a holiday ?

No not for a holiday but I do visit my son and family most years and that’s Gibraltar so I suppose in one way it could be yes.

We return to out timeshare in the Lakes every year but other than that we are adventurous.
Norfolk next week and Rhodes the following week.

I think, for a couple of weeks a year, it's fine to do whatever suits YOU, and sod everyone else.

For 12 years we holidayed in Malaga because that's where our daughter lived and was the only time we got to see her every year

Yes, a creature of habit here, because my love affair with the various locations never dies. It's a bit like going home. We also take the dog, so we have found a collection of houses at home and abroad with garden to suit. We usually book for the following year when we leave.
Our city breaks are an entirely different matter. We like to chop and change with these.

Only when we had a boat moored on the south coast, for those 10 years we rarely went anywhere else. My husband likes returning to places but I like to go somewhere new, even if it's just a different town in a location we've visited before & liked. He likes the relaxation of the known, but I need a bit of adventure from a holiday.

No because we enjoying seeing different places. But we do go for a long weekend (sometimes more than one) to somewhere familiar which is not too far from home. A lovely hotel with a real fire and a sea view - wonderful especially in winter. And less than an hour's drive away.

No we don’t, but we have have returned to laced more Han once and I can understand those who return again and again to a favoured place.

Cossy Sat 05-Oct-24 15:49:27

Ooops, then not Han!

Nowadays my holidays are solo, so I have been to places the Bodach and I used to go, but recently I’m thinking about visiting places we never got round to going to, Salzburg being one, Venice being another.
I didn’t think I would want to go to unknown places on my own, but I know that if I want to see the places I’ll have to. We’ll see.

A mixture. We have been to a little seaside place in France at least for a weekend every year for about the last 11/12 years , for the last 3 years we have been for a week in Kalcan in Turkey and have booked again for next year . It suits me, my daughters in their 40’s and 15 year old twin grandaughters , hard to find multigenerational holidays which work but both these do.

We are all going to New York in December , 3 of us have gone once before but the other 2 not. I do like new places too and might do something different as well next year. We all live together and pool our money.

I go back to Wales for a few days several times a year with my best friend it’s where we both grew up. We do some things together and also catch up with our different friends some days and meet back at our Airbnb later in the day.

Everyone is different each to their own

My husband has mobility problems so we prefer to go to places we have been before where I know he will be able to manage. Usually Playa Blanca in Lanzarote where it's nice and flat. I do sometimes wish we could visit all the places we never managed to see when we were younger but I'm grateful we can still manage to go away.

pandapatch Sat 05-Oct-24 17:22:20

No, too much world to see!

Judy54 Sat 05-Oct-24 17:24:41

Yes anna7 my Husband also has mobility problems which is why we are considering somewhere tried and tested where we can both feel comfortable. It will probably be in the UK as we find airports a nightmare not to mention the cost of insurance to cover his health issues. As He is a blue badge holder we feel more confident about parking and the fact that he wont have to walk to far. We have had some wonderful holidays over the years and it is now about adapting to what He can do rather that what He can't do. We are hopeful that we will be able to get away even if it is only for a short break. We are so lucky (weather aside) to have some beautiful places to visit in the UK.

We like to see different places and have been / are lucky enough to do that. However, every year we visit south Cornwall, Roseland or Lizard peninsula.
We love the area and it always feels like a second home.

We used to alternate when the children were little going camping abroad one year and a hotel in Woolacombe the next.

Now we go to Aldeburgh for our bit of comfort with interesting other places between.

We need to find a 'comfort' place less than 3 hours away really.

I don't really have the inclination to go abroad at the moment. We've seen a lot of the world and I've spent years working abroad as well. Loved it all but these days I'm quite happy to visit somewhere in the UK.

We've just come back from Dumfries & Galloway, an area we haven't visited before, and a quick visit for the weekend further east into the Scottish Borders to visit family. We know the Borders very well and visit often. There are a few cottages that we use almost every year so know them, the owners and the area very well.

For holidays together we go to different places and do a lot of travelling around while we are there, rarely three nights in the same place!

OH has a hobby which takes him back to the same places again and again, but those holidays are interest rather than location led.

We do return to the N Norfolk coast to watch the amazing migrating birds, usually a weekend in November. It just occurs to me that now we are both retired we could go mid-week!

It took us quite a while to realise that we didn't have a weekend anymore and we could go places when ever we pleased 😁

We used to! Not the same cottage but the same location (and stayed in the same cottage twice). OH likes familiarity and there were usually time constraints as well, with self employment, so always uk holidays. There are some places which you just love to go back to (a particular village for us) and eat in favourite places - and usually plenty of different things to do each year. Only one year we went somewhere else = this year, no holiday at all!
