Opinions needed about first date

Guessing he may find first meets quite intimidating which is understandable and his way of dealing with it to keep it casual. Also if a dog lover for her to know this may be his norm 😊. Why not?

Ps. I'd just go - & ask at some point why doggy came along? 🤷‍♀️ it's part of getting to know how a person ticks I'd think 🤔 but do it with sense of humour obvs! 😊. Be a shame not to go it may be a wasted opportunity. Important to see it as a friendly meet for an hour ( good to make friends first). rather than a serious date

Perhaps he has to leave the dog to go to work and doesn't want to leave the dog for another session on its own. If DD likes dogs, it's not a problem. Only one way to find out!

I'm a dog lover but do find this a little odd. Maybe it's a service dog of some kind as someone else said. Wouldn't be a problem for me though.
( unless it was the chihuahua in the pink tutu )

Good idea! Go for a nice walk with the dog and end up in a country pub for coffee or lunch maybe? The dog will hopefully break the ice so to speak.

Very strange! I would have thought it was an opportunity for 2 people to get to know each other and not to be distracted by a dog. I would be worried about this as I have a friend with a dog and her whole life revolves around the animal and she rarely goes anywhere without him, he is her sole topic of conversation.

I’d be happy to go on a dog walk, though in a park with people around rather than somewhere isolated, I would also take my own car if I had one and arrange to meet at the park, this would make it feasible excuse to leave if she felt uncomfortable as in ‘ I have to go my parking is about to run out’

I think it’s odd. He needs to concentrate on his date, not the dog. She should consider whether she wants to date a man who is so attached to his dog he can’t leave it for a short while.

He may be using the dog as an icebreaker so conversation isn't awkward. I would suggest a dog friendly coffee shop or somewhere with outside seating then tell him she has to be somewhere else for an appointment 2 hours after their meet up time - it means she's not stuck there if she's not keen but if she does like him, they can arrange another (dog free) date

He should introduce the dog later. His date will feel that she is secondary. I think it's rude and self centred.

I think its quite sweet, it maybe he wants to gauge if your DD is cool with dogs or maybe its a support or medical alert dog ?
It will certainly be an ice breaker if he's a bit shy and struggles with small talk.
I have dogs and if my dogs don't like someone then thats a sure sign they are a wrong'un !

Sounds perfect to me. An ideal casual meet up. I would trust somebody who is kind to an animal.

We live close to countryside and my daughter’s first date with her partner was in a very dog friendly pub - although he didn’t bring his dog! I can’t see it’s a big deal, unless she’s not into dogs.
My husband brought his dog to our first date. I didn’t realise until the end of the date, that his dog was waiting patiently in the back of his Land Rover. She jumped out to say hello when we went to leave (obviously, he opened the boot door first!). She was a puppy at the time, about eight months’ old and didn’t want to leave her for the few hours our date would take. I was glad to meet such a friendly dog (Gordon Setter) as I wouldn’t say I was a massive dog person, it it was definitely not weird or anything!

No I wouldn’t like the idea not on a first date. There are big dogs and little dogs and it would depend on what breed before I agreed and I’m a dog owner .

I'd quite like that, because it seems it'll be a casual meet up.
To me, that's the ideal first meeting with someone new.
Plus, I couldn't date someone who didnt like animals.

I think that if he loves his dog this much, there is a good chance that he is a nurturing person. A bit different, yes, but at least he was considerate in asking. He sounds charming. Please let us know how the first date goes (because my life is so boring without my dear GN stories 🥰 )

It's not odd at all.
I would suspect a man who did not bring his dog with him.
In fact, I regret not having suspected a man who did not bring his dog along the first time we met. It would have saved me a lot of grief.

That was my first date with my husband. We made it low key for the first one
