I took an interest in One Direction because our granddaughter used to love them. I was sorry to hear of the death of this young man.

BlueBelle. Who knows what was going on in the poor chap's mind. I know from personal experience how mental illness can change the way you think, whatever the cause. My own brother took his own life in his 20s. It was devastating for us but I don't consider him selfish or thoughtless. He was in turmoil. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes.

The old enemy drink and drugs …and why… for what ?
So so sad and gained nothing but heartbreak and sadness for his family and friends, he’s not here to see the aftermath he and his troubles if he had any are gone if it was for excitement thrill or habit no one will ever know but no one involved with him will ever be the same again and that’s thoughtless and selfish

What a stupid thing to say. Drink and drugs is not the cause of this, it is whatever mental health issues led him to "self medicate" with drink and drugs. You can no more call him selfish than someone who has killed themself by any other means. Dreadful

I’m sorry, but drink and drugs and “too much too soon” are precisely at the bottom of this.
He was high on drugs when the accident happened and the emergency services had already been called because of the disturbance his behaviour was causing.
It doesn’t mitigate the loss to his family or make it less sad, but too many young flames have burned out too soon - Amy Winehouse,Paula Yates even James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and they had much in common.

Such a sad story. The relentless "celebratising" of young people, be they reality stars, pop stars, sports stars is a poisoned chalice.

Those who are supposed to be supporting them - mentoring them - are not in it for altruistic reasons. The more money the "star" makes the more money they make.

It's like putting a 17 year old who has just passed their driving test into a F1 racing car and telling them the M25 is their oyster.

Another young life lost to fame and fortune sad

His mum has said 'he was just a boy'; the saddest tribute of all.

It is so very sad that this young man has died, and that a career in the pop/rock music world seems to carry with it the pit of drink and drugs.
I have a teenage GS with a quite extraordinary talent as a rock/jazz/folk guitarist. People are blown away by his skill. I watch him play and can't help worrying about him. It would be madness for him not to pursue this, but I know the pitfalls in that route. Such a shame.

RIP Liam, taken too soon. So sorry for his son and family.

These reality tv shows appear to have such a negative impact on some of their contestants if you forget the financial gain to some of them.

Poor Liam and his family flowers

Sad for his family.. But it was awful that pictures appeared of him dead and the state of his room on Social media before allegedly his family were told.
So Reddit reported, thankfully it's been taken down now.

LOUISA1523 Thu 17-Oct-24 21:24:13

Very very sad

M0nica Thu 17-Oct-24 20:51:48

A tragedy for his family and personal friends without a doubt.

Otherwise just another rich popstar dying from an excess of drugs and/or alcohol.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 17-Oct-24 19:41:35

What is really sad too is Liam was worth in excess of $70 million. Wealth of such proportions and yet (like others before him) he couldn’t find happiness or meaning in his life.

Lisaangel10 Thu 17-Oct-24 09:04:03

Sadly another avoidable death. The recent photos of him show his eyes looking dead. Terribly sad for his young son. May he Rest in Peace now.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 17-Oct-24 08:49:45

Very sad indeed.
“The Story of My Life” a favourite song.
RIP Liam. Your torment is no more.

Maggiemaybe Thu 17-Oct-24 08:28:54

Very sad. And just dreadful that details were released so quickly that many of his family and friends must have heard the news via the media instead of being told in person.

Sparklefizz Thu 17-Oct-24 08:07:25

A tragedy - my thoughts are with his family and friends. Such sad news. I remember his audition on tv.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Oct-24 08:05:52

Such an unnecessary early demise for a talented young man with so much to live for.

My thoughts are with his family, friends and young son.

RIP Liam 💐

Very sad indeed, taken far too soon, whatever the cause, and sad for his young son and his family

Babs03 Thu 17-Oct-24 07:48:47

So sad, just a young man with his whole future ahead of him.
Thoughts are with his family and friends.

Very sad, especially for his family and friends, and fans too.

We really don't need to be told the gory details. Nor do we need to delve into his torrid private life and his state of mind.
In the early days, and do not take this as gossiping, my tiny memory is hearing him play football with his bandmates in the neighbouring garden. During their downtime, they were just normal carefree young lads, like anyone else's son.

I am shocked. RIP.

TerriBull Thu 17-Oct-24 07:29:16

Very sad, especially for his child. early fame can often be a double edge sword lives don't always pan out that well for some.

Only 31 a great Shame.

Susan56 Thu 17-Oct-24 07:25:31

So sad.Thoughts with his little boy, family and friends.RIP Liam.
