Just been to see the Tina Turner musical. It was very good, dancing in the aisles, cheers, claps and the person playing Tina had a great voice, too. Plus the nut bush dance ( I think only in Australia ?) in the aisles, too. Best musical I have seen in years. Any other good ones?

Helen Reddy was my favourite Mrs Johnstone.

It was Clodagh Rogers playing the part when we saw it, with David Cassidy playing Mickey.

As well as Barbara Dickson, I saw Kiki Dee, Clodagh Rodgers, Lyn Paul, two Nolans, and another one, whose name escapes me!

My all time favourite musical is The Rocky Horror Show.

The Picture show is good but seeing it live is even better especially if you dress up. I bet it was great on Broadway.

Same here Indigo8, in fact the only 'musical' that I like - can't stand musicals in general. Yes, love the dressing up too.....saw a live performance once with Nicholas Parsons as the narrator in 1994 - he was surprisingly good! Enjoyed the film as I like Tim Curry too..... :-)

Lionel Blair?

😂😂😂😂😂 Bart?

Yes, of course you are right, it is Lionel Bart. I got my Lionels mixed up in a senior moment.confused

Lionel Blair was the tall chap who danced around, wasn't he??
Not to be confused with Tony Blair.grin

Has anyone seen the touring version of An Officer and A Gentleman?

Good question kitty it’s on an our local theatre soon. The tickets are quite expensive ( though most are these days) so I’d be interested to hear if it’s worth the outlay.

I think it's run is almost over, Grandmadinosaur.

I love musicals and have seen loads over the years , both the big popular ones and the less popular ones like , the girl from the north country , based on Bob Dylan’s life and songs .
My faves are Les Mis , Book of Mormon and Hamilton.
My first musical was Godspell with David Essex . I went with the school.
One of my favourite family memories was taking my dc to see Beauty and the Beast . They were about 7 and 5 and the looks on their faces were priceless . Ditto the Lion King.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 01-Nov-24 17:19:54

I’m hoping there might be some last minute offers from the theatre kitty

kittylester Fri 01-Nov-24 17:34:48

I'd love feed back if you do go.

Enid101 Fri 01-Nov-24 17:43:48

Hamilton is my favourite.

I agree Kitty West Side story was mesmerising. I saw it in stage in Oxford as a teenager. Went to the film premier in Birmingham. I can hear all the music in my head now, starting with that whistle.

Found Les Miserable dark and depressing, however heard the music recently and could understand why so many folks liked it.

My dear dad took me to Bye Bye Birdie loved it then but suspect I wouldn’t now.

Salad Days by Julian Slade.

Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamciar here, and Six.

Haven’t been to a musical for a few years, up to now my favourites would be The King and I, Blood Brothers and Sunshine on Leith.
Was really disappointed at War Horse (loved both the book and the film), and loathed The Phantom of the Opera.

I saw my first musical The Vagabond King when I was four, (my mother was in it), and have loved Musical Theatre ever since. Lost count of all the musicals I have seen, and enjoyed all bar one: The Sound of Music which I loathe; it is all the winsome nuns capering about.

We are lucky to belong to a theatre group and get discounted tickets for the west end.
I love:
Les Mis
Chicago
Jersey Boys
Blood Brothers
Sunset Boulevard (but not the new one with Nicole Scherzinger I hated that version)
The new Guys and Dolls
Oliver
and anything with Charlie Stemp - he is amazing

The latest Joker 2 - Folie a Deux as been panned by many as being a musical but it's a brilliant film - as good as the first. Joaquin Phoenix makes to feel so sorry for Arthur Fleck as the film explains how his abused childhood turn him into what he became. I urge everyone to see it but only after you've seen the first one.

DGS is into Musical Theatre big time - watch everything he is in
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (Chief UmpaLumpa
The Sound of Music (one of the Von Trapp children)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Jeremy)
Mary Poppins (Michael)
Oliver! (played Oliver aged just 8)
James & The Giant Peach
School of Rock (he learned the drums specificlly for this role)
Barnum
and he's currently in rehearsals for EVITA (playing Juan Peron)

Have loved them all but I am probably a little biased!

mabon1 Sun 03-Nov-24 11:51:04

My Fair Lady on stage 1959, the Ascot scene was amazing.
The Lion King, stunning. Les Mirables, Chicago

Cateq Sun 03-Nov-24 12:12:56

Loved the Lion King, we saw it on a trip to NY , my son told us to go as he’d seen it when he went to NY with the school and he said it was the only musical he’s ever enjoyed. We weren’t disappointed with our Broadway experience

Boolya Sun 03-Nov-24 13:29:51

Camelot from a few years ago and Jersey Boys - seen it 3 times!

Ktsmum Sun 03-Nov-24 13:37:51

Lion King, there's nothing like it, breathtaking. Les Mis of course, Sunset Boulevard and Miss Saigon

mrswoo Sun 03-Nov-24 14:35:43

Over the years I've seen various productions of both Fiddler on the Roof and Blood Brothers. They are still my two all time favourite musicals. However, having recently seen Come From Away I now have three favourite musicals.
If you get the chance, and it's still touring for a while, go and see it, it's wonderful.

Mojack26 Sun 03-Nov-24 14:42:51

Love many but my absolute favourite is Les Mis follwed by Miss Saigon and Joseph

suzie20 Sun 03-Nov-24 14:44:36

The first musical I went to was Copacabana, and I loved it. My favourites would be Blood Brothers, Les Miserables and Rocky Horror Show. Kevin Kennedy ( Curly Watts in Corrie) was brilliant as the narrator in Rocky Horror.
