Musicals you liked

Come from Away is still on tour I think and we love it. Seen it 5 or 6 times.

I'm another who hates musicals in general, but I absolutely love The Lion King. Such a spectacle.

My DH isn’t a fan of músicals but for his 50th birthday 31 years ago I treated us to a weekend in London and I booked two seats for Blood Brothers as Barbara Dickson was Mrs Johnstone and he is a fan. He thoroughly enjoyed it and even bought the CD of the music from it later. We later took two aunts who were visiting from Canada to see Les Miserables and Mamma Mia, both excellent for different reasons.

Glad it's not just me kitty re Les Mis. Some of the songs are lovely obviously but I found the whole thing dire.

For me,The Sound of Music, Sister Act, Les Mis, Grease, Sunshine on Leith and Bugsy Malone.

I am very fortunate, my very good friend of over forty years was a ticket agent.

I have seen most productions in London, Les Mis six + times the same for Phantom. (Was in second row for Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford’s last performance)

I loved the original production of Miss Saigon, wasn’t so keen on the 2015 version.

Beautiful, Tina, Buddy and Jersey Boys were enjoyable, thoroughly enjoyed Michael Ball in Hairspray.

Biggest disaster was Bat out of Hell, DH has been a fan of meatloaf for ever, so I took him as a surprise for his birthday. It was dire in every level…

I can just about remember going to see the musical Sound of Music with my Father, I must have been five or six, and I have been hooked ever since. It was in London, not sure what theatre.

I agree - some songs are fabulous.

Seeing a musical at our local theatre on New Years Eve bas become a bit of a tradition for DH and I - this year it's My Fair Lady.

How lovely kitty. On a slightly different note, last week I went with my poor, long suffering, Beatled out daughter to Beatles by Candlelight at Lichfield Cathedral. It was just a band singing Beatles songs. They were very good. The cathedral does lots of these 'By Candlelight' shows. Something different.

I love that musical, only seen it once but it was just so uplifting as well as moving. 👏🏽👏🏽

Cats was awful, never understood all the hype, wish I’d never paid for a ticket.
No wonder the film tanked.

I am not a fan of modern musicals, as I like to hear what I call ‘proper’ singers. I would choose to hear opera or a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, but I have enjoyed shows like My Fair Lady, Carousel, South Pacific, and the like. I’ve taken part in a lot of shows too, and come to enjoy them more than if I had just seen them once. Evita was one, and Showboat was another.
Les Miserables was okay, but the Bodach loved it, so I’ve seen it many times. I did enjoy ( if that’s the right word, as I start crying after about the first three minutes!) Blood Brothers, and have seen a few Mrs Johnstones over the years, Barbara Dickson being my favourite.

We went to see Chess.

It was enjoyable but not that memorable apart from the one song sung by Barbara Dickson and Elaine Paige - I Know Him so Well.

Those 'By Candlelight' shows are great - we saw the Rock Orchestra by Candlelight earlier this year and loved it so much that we're going back again in February.

Our granddaughter went to one on the cathedral which was music from Harry Potter by Candlelight.

I saw "Poppy" in the 1980s, the Royal Shakespeare Company. Alfred Marks featured, great presence, great voice I think it was pseudo pantomime but won Musical of the Year ?1983. Possibly very politically incorrect by modern day standards but l think it was produced again 2005. I'd love to see it again. It was cracking fun.

I love musicals and really interesting reading what people have been to see, brought back memories of what I have seen.

Loved Miss Saigon. War Horse , Jersey Boys, Billy Elliott, Hamilton ( as it’s rap expected to hate it) and not seen mentioned but Evita, David Essex as Che Guevara - swoon!

Hated Les Mis, it had just come out and husband booked as a surprise for my birthday January 1986. Hadn’t got a clue what it was about.
Also Wicked, I fell asleep.
