Don’t watch if you’ve been recently bereaved. It’s too much.
Has anyone watched it all the way through. I can’t.

If it’s the pink jumper one, yes I gave watched it.

Extremely poignant, evoked memories of Christmas gifts from my childhood 🩷🩷🩷

The one with the CGI robin?

Grandmadinosaur Sat 02-Nov-24 20:43:54

I hadn’t seen it but looked it up on You tube Doodle and can totally understand your feelings.
Its about a man who’s been recently bereaved and a robin who visits him. I feel Christmas is a tough time when a lot of people feel very emotional regarding family and friends no longer with us. Why do they do this to people tugging at heartstrings?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 02-Nov-24 21:00:03

Haven’t seen the robin one, will look it up tomorrow.

You set me off looking Doodle and I ended up watching others too, annoying MrJ, ‘it’s only just November’!!

Jaxjacky Sat 02-Nov-24 21:12:42

Oh Doodle ❤️

Oh blimey not Christmas ads already go away till December I ll not be watching

Babs03 Sat 02-Nov-24 22:01:06

Sorry doodle 😣
Am not into this emotional blackmail at Christmas, it’s as if you aren’t a fully functioning nice to know person if you don’t buy all the goodies advertised, with advertisers knowing how to push our buttons, and cause unwarranted upset to the recently bereaved or those who don’t have lots of family or friends.
🤔

Wasn’t it JL that always used to wait till after Remembrance Day to release their Christmas advert? It was either JL or Sainsburys. Whichever, that was a respectful thing to do, what a shame it didn’t last.

The Robin Advert is promoting a charity song - to support charities helping the aged and lonely.
The attached screenshot appears at the end of the advert.
It's miserable, ill conceived and lonely folk of any age won't be cheered up by it.

RosiesMaw2 Sat 02-Nov-24 23:26:45

I’ve always believed “When robins appear, loved ones are near” but sadly find this clunky, unsubtle, not very Christmassy , clumsily constructed and all a bit amateurish.

It was Sainsbury's that would not show their Christmas Advert until after Remembrance Day as a sign of respect. It was a matter of principle with them, even the year they showed the advert about the armistice on Christmas Day in the first world war. That premiered on 12th November, and in my opinion will never be beaten. John Lewis always want to be first with the Christmas Advert. There's traditionally been quite a competition for best Christmas advert but I think lots of the supermarkets have abandoned the challenge. I'm not sure about this one..........

The robin advert isn’t John Lewis, it is Sam Clegg who makes a JL ‘inspired’ advert every year for charity.

John Lewis have released a teaser of their’s called Never Knowingly , about a pink jumper.

Allsorts Sun 03-Nov-24 05:18:04

Prefer Sainsburys ad.

NotAGran55 Sun 03-Nov-24 05:23:07

Ooops - it’s Give Knowingly

grandMattie Sun 03-Nov-24 06:24:14

Saw it on mute and was baffled…
I never actually watch ads, I just mute and wait while reading or something.

bikergran Sun 03-Nov-24 07:47:32

I find John Lewis Christmas adverts never cheerful. I seem to remember think it was last years, where a child looked through a telescope. I will try my best not to watch this years. No Christmas adds encourage me to shop at any certain shop anyway.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 03-Nov-24 07:52:55

Never watch adverts.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 03-Nov-24 07:52:59

Me too grandMattie! I don’t watch much tv at all - mostly just GBNEWS and when the ads come on I mute them! Plus I try to avoid anything Christmas till 1st December when I write and post my cards - that’s soon enough!

Calendargirl Sun 03-Nov-24 08:08:08

I saw the ‘jumper’ one last night.

Didn’t realise it was just a trailer, and thought it was very innocuous.

Shall watch out for the other one.

NotAGran55 Sun 03-Nov-24 08:12:39

I don’t watch TV ads either. We always record or watch programs on catch - up to avoid them.

However I always watch the JL one on their website before it is on the TV. They always announce the date and time in advance, and it is usually a Thursday.

Gingster Sun 03-Nov-24 08:24:06

Goodness - I’m not going to watch that again 😢

Kate54 Sun 03-Nov-24 08:29:24

Haven’t had the ‘pleasure’ of seeing it yet but was surprised ( to put it mildly) at the E45 ad aimed at those who are ‘transitioning’. Presumably that involves particular issues with the skin although I’d have thought them minor compared with all the other physical challenges involved.
Trying to be open-minded about this but struggling!
