The 3 most trusted professions and the 3 least trusted

Listening to our radio here today and they were talking about this. The most trusted were doctors, teachers and people serving in restaurants and the least trusted ( surprise surprise) were politicians, sales executives, and bankers.
What do you think? Someone rang in and disagreed with teachers because they said theybtell students what to think politically and are too ‘woke’. Interesting comment I thought.

Strange…why would people trust a restaurant employee more than say, a dentist? Where does trust come into having a meal out? If the meal is shite, send it back!
I have a very trusting nature so it doesn’t really come into my interactions with people unless they give me reason not to trust them.
Most people (including those in sales) are just trying to do their jobs so I find it best to start from a position of treating them with respect. It must be soul-destroying to work in a call-centre and I find that when I’m pleasant with them, they really appreciate it.

Treat everyone with respect, all have a job to do, hopefully they will be respectful to you. I have however, in my life been on the receiving end of some patronising and off hand hospital consultants who barely look at you. They stand out for me. Otherwise I find people generally want to help and the public can be very rude and challenging.

Well, after my and my family's experience over the last 4 years, I certainly wouldn't trust a doctor. As for bankers - well that rather depends on what type of banker you are talking about retail banker(your local(?) bank branch), further up the chain, investment banker.

There are good and bad in all professions, but on current form and experience, my most trusted are: tradesmen of all kinds from builders to fencing contractors, to appliance repair men, then car mechanics, judged on those in our local garage and, finally, coach drivers (not bus drivers), whenever I go anywhere by coach, which is not that often, the drivers are delight, courteous, thoughtful, with a good line in humour.

Who don't I trust? politicians, doctors, receptionists

I was disgusted when a teacher told my grandson's class that there are 52 different sexes. I agree about not trusting politicians.

I think, in the Uk anyway, it depends a lot where you live.
Local funeral directors are good here.
Accountants and Solicitors not so good.

The older I get, and noticing the way the media likes to put people in groups, I am noticing that people are individuals.

I did know that anyway. But am fed up of labels of, one group of people is good, and one group is bad.

fancythat Mon 04-Nov-24 08:00:39

I live local.
I have heard it said that our hospital is middle of the road, because doctors who value their career progression, dont want to spend too long there as it is a "backwater".

Babs03 Mon 04-Nov-24 08:09:22

I really don’t trust anyone on account of their profession. As I get older I am less likely to trust anyone whom I don’t already know and has earned my trust.

ronib Mon 04-Nov-24 08:30:14

I don’t trust gp receptionists, some gps and private dentists who quote thousands of pounds. I trust my window cleaner, my NHS dentist and my home hairdresser.

kittylester Mon 04-Nov-24 08:32:59

Our roofers are really trustworthy - the previous roofers were awful.

Witzend Mon 04-Nov-24 08:34:22

I’d have thought lawyers might well be among the least trusted, though that’s probably because a solicitor neighbour of ours was struck off (and banged up) for fraud and money laundering. I don’t think it’s exactly unheard of.

karmalady Mon 04-Nov-24 08:35:14

my plumber, my chimney sweep and my dentist

karmalady Mon 04-Nov-24 08:35:58

least trusted

I cannot think of any, never had a bad experience

BlueBelle Mon 04-Nov-24 08:36:26

I trust anyone until they treat me badly or wrongly
And that goes for my butcher dentist who I refuse to see but have no other NHS dentist to turn too so holding my breathe and hoping for the best 🙄

biglouis Mon 04-Nov-24 08:39:34

I am not a trusting person so I dont repose confidence in someone just because of their occupation. People dont "get" trust from me. They earn it over many years - or not as the case may be. I always go with my gut feeling. If I get a bad feeling about someone nothing will convince me that they are not a wrong un.

Bankers, politicos and estate agents are my least trueted and most despised.

RosiesMaw2 Mon 04-Nov-24 08:41:08

I find these random generalisations puzzling and unfair.
The “meme” used to be about trusting someone as far as a used car salesman - but there must be exceptions.
The only people I tend not to trust (and I may be wrong) are people who appear at my door and offer to trim my trees/trim the beech hedge/ resurface my drive.
All three have needed doing but nothing would induce me to believe their arrival was fortuitous!

MissInterpreted Mon 04-Nov-24 08:48:33

I'm not a trusting person - trust has to be earned, but I try not to generalise about any profession in general. There are good and bad in all walks of life.

nanna8 Mon 04-Nov-24 09:03:56

It was a world wide survey of many thousands of people apparently. Not my conclusions, just what I heard reported. I would agree with the politicians though because they seem to find it very difficult to tell the truth. That goes for left, right and in betweens. Of course you can’t pigeonhole people, it was just a thing on radio. Just lighten up, will you ?

I didn’t read the OP as lighthearted. No good posting then complaining you don’t like the responses nanna8

harrigran Mon 04-Nov-24 09:14:41

My dentist is the only professional I have complete trust in.
I have had problems with bankers and solicitor.
I have lost confidence in GPs.

MissAdventure Mon 04-Nov-24 09:15:08

I'd treat all of those people respectfully, but I wouldn't necessarily accept what they say as right just because of their job.

I think those days are long gone, thankfully (or sadly, depending on your view on the subject)

Caleo Mon 04-Nov-24 09:15:12

I used to trust the Royal family to be on the side of their subjects.

Sometimes it is hard to convey “mood” in words.
I too took this literally and found the results of the survey facile and judgemental rather than light hearted.

NotSpaghetti Mon 04-Nov-24 09:25:20

I do not trust consultants until they prove that I can.

Mainly I trust the ones that say "I'm not sure - I honestly don't know" and explain to me at some length the pros and cons and why and what they would do if I was their mother/sister/wife.

I am happy to travel 100s of miles if necessary to see a consultant who is humble enough to continue to question.

MissAdventure Mon 04-Nov-24 09:27:41

Estate agents used to get bad press, as did used car salesmen.
As for bankers, well, rhyming slang categorises people as "merchant bankers" around here.
