Listening to our radio here today and they were talking about this. The most trusted were doctors, teachers and people serving in restaurants and the least trusted ( surprise surprise) were politicians, sales executives, and bankers.
What do you think? Someone rang in and disagreed with teachers because they said theybtell students what to think politically and are too ‘woke’. Interesting comment I thought.

I trust the man who fixes our cars. He always tells us what is wrong and how much it will cost. He is also quite happy to tell us if something is beyond his expertise rather than try and bodge a fix. I trust the electrician who has done a few jobs for me because again he is quite open about what he can and can't do. I would have trusted the consultant who treated DH with my life, and really did trust him with DH's. The Jury is still out on our current crop of GPs because they are all new.

Considering that they deal with a scarce and expensive resourse (housing) there are no qalifications for being an estate agent. Some of them make it up as they go along. I saw the worst of them when I was renting. I had to constantly remind them that I was a client and they were there to provide me with a service, and not to tell me what to do. At one point I cut them off completely and refused to deal with them. I would only communicate with the LL directly.

When I was in a position to buy the house I refused to go via the estate agent and insisted upon a private sale. They are crooks and liars.

We have a great garage that we trust with our cars.
Have known them for nearly 30 years. The mechanics are fantastic and have been there since they had apprenticeships.

We also use a great carpenter (and his son - a great electrician).

We use people we trust and trust the people who do jobs for us.

The consultants we have chosen have all been terrific - they are not all the same!

I think I trust or don’t trust individuals more than professions. I trust my private dentist - no NHS dentists for miles here, - my GP, our vet, my neighbour who has a key to our house, the family company we’ve just bought some new furniture from, our central heating engineer and several others I’m sure. I don’t trust the postal service to deliver letters on time, my MP who appears to want the limelight for doing nothing, BBC news reporters who don’t offer a fair opportunity to those being interviewed and keep interrupting and my iPad which keeps refusing to connect to the internet!!!

Well, after my and my family's experience over the last 4 years, I certainly wouldn't trust a doctor. As for bankers - well that rather depends on what type of banker you are talking about retail banker(your local(?) bank branch), further up the chain, investment banker.

There are good and bad in all professions, but on current form and experience, my most trusted are: tradesmen of all kinds from builders to fencing contractors, to appliance repair men, then car mechanics, judged on those in our local garage and, finally, coach drivers (not bus drivers), whenever I go anywhere by coach, which is not that often, the drivers are delight, courteous, thoughtful, with a good line in humour.

Who don't I trust? politicians, doctors, receptionists

ha I wouldn't trust a doctor either, or their receptionists or solicitors etc, I think the thing is, people have to earn trust, once they've proved themselves, it's fine, until then, beware. It's sad but that's how it is in today's world !

rocketstop I'm sure it was actually always the same.
People surely have always trusted people after they have sort-of "tried them out".

Automatic respect (say of a doctor in the "old days") isn't really the same as trust.

I really don’t trust anyone on account of their profession. As I get older I am less likely to trust anyone whom I don’t already know and has earned my trust.

Never trust a social worker! Accused me and my boy of lying after forcing him to undress in front of a doctor and 2 social workers. Probably filmed it for dodgy teacher. School ignored repeated requests to let parents find cheaper uniform supplies but were happy enough to let them buy coats without the logo when doctor dodgy got worried about filming him stripping for an audience

I don’t trust gp receptionists, some gps and private dentists who quote thousands of pounds. I trust my window cleaner, my NHS dentist and my home hairdresser.

I have come across some awful gp receptionists. I had a chest x ray which showed a large hiatus hernia which I didnt know I had. This came as a surprise so I asked could she just repeat the result which she did in a very bored voice.

I was going to say I don’t judge people by their profession, and of course there are good, bad and indifferent in all walks of life. But I am increasingly distrustful of journalists - so much discord, worry and hate starts with sensational and untrue headlines. They have so much influence, and too many of them use it just to stir up trouble. I don’t take much at face value these days.
