Of course. I think Esme Young would have some great stories to tell and full of mischief!

She has. Esme was a speaker at a big WI event I went to and she had the place in stitches with her risqué stories. I managed a quick word with her afterwards and she has a mischievous twinkle in her eye. We spoke about the idea of reinstating needlework into the school curriculum. Lovely lady with an enormous, vividly coloured necklace which could have been seen from space.

Lucky you Sarnia.. Esme has such wonderful vitality and depth of knowledge... I would love to hear her stories..

No one "famous" but I would of loved to meet my paternal GGrandparents. After talking about GGrandmother with an elderly relation a few years ago she seemed like quite a character. Raised 12 children in a small cottage in a Somerset village, including having twins at the age of 44!
From a newspaper report of their Golden wedding anniversary in 1933 my GGrandfather was given the day off work by the local squire, he was 74.

I couldn’t think of anyone I would like to meet when this thread started, but eventually it came to me (I’m very slow…) - Victoria Coren-Mitchell. I love Only Connect.

There are lots of GNs that I would like to meet, but number one would have to be Dickens. She so often says what I think but puts it better and more concisely.

I would like to meet my mother. She died when I was 6 and I feel that I never knew her. After she died I wished for that for a long time.

Too many famous people I would love to meet , David Attenborough is top of the list. Many lovely people here too but not into picking favourites, GN is an amazing site , so reassuring to know there are people who ' listen ' and care. GSM is a great loss, I have no idea what happened and although I never needed her sound advice I know lots of people benefited from her professional experience.

Yes, I hear your curiousity: A woman in England in the mid 1800s gave birth for the fifth time, to twins. Tragically, she died in childbirth. The girl twin was given to the grandparents. The boy twin was given to the neighbors. At 14 years old, the boy ran away, joined the military and fled to India. Later he was made a head Commisioner. During his time there, he met a young girl. The young girl had no father present and her mother died when she was only two years old. She was being raised by her grandparents. The runaway boy took the young girl into his responsibility and she beared two children. The runaway then left after six years and the young girl was destitute unable to provide for her babies. A missionary from Ireland found her and convinced her to let him take he children into the foothills of the Himalayas where he guaranteed them a British education. That's what happened.

I was unsure of my English with the word "bear children" or "bore children" so I looked it up a bit and found this very funny rant:
