Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

Grannmarie thank you for you message. I find the future a very scary place. I hope and pray things get easier but it’s a bit hard when you can’t see a way forward. Posts like yours are so encouraging. Thank you x

Aww, Doodle, I'm so sorry. If I may, I'll join you in the hoping and praying. 🙏🕯🙏

We get free parking for up to 2 hours in the nearest car park to our M&S food so long as we spend £5 there or £10.00 in Tesco. Brilliant scheme in our small town.

Lease not pease!!

Usedtobeblonde Wed 08-Jan-25 07:05:41

Good morning to you all, a group hug sounds just the thing.
It is bitterly cold here, not expected to go above freezing temp today.
The road outside is frozen slush.
My GD will be driving in the worst conditions since she passed her test.
It is treacherous and I am already worried about her.

Sainsbury’s are due later to top me up for several days.
Sadly our M&S Simply food closed last Friday, so missed by by so many but the pease was up and the rent was untenable.
The nearest one now is the Merseyway shopping centre in Stockport where shoppers have to pay for the privilege although I have heard you can get a refund at the till, don’t know if this is so.

Please all stay warm and stay safe.

I'm just popping out of the quiet corner (through the flipping floods) to suggest a gentle group hug.

There is a lot of worry and sadness in the kitchen. And, the weather doesn't help anyone's mood.

Take care everyone.

No apologies required, lovely ladies, not at all! I always hoped for a daughter but I am very happy with my three precious sons.

Redcar and Doodle 💐💐 dear ladies, it's still early days, be gentle with yourselves. Give time time, your strength will return.

Doodle Tue 07-Jan-25 22:49:07

Sorry to hear about your friend FGT. Hope all is well and also for your DH.

Doodle Tue 07-Jan-25 22:48:33

Hello Grannmarie. I’m still here, very much in the quiet corner. Nice of you to think of me.
Redcar like you, confidence vanished when DH died.
My main supporter, confidant, champion and best friend isn’t here and I’ve found im nothing without him.

brook2704 Tue 07-Jan-25 22:06:40

Sorry to hear about your friend fgt it’s unsettling news and understandable that you’re feeling anxious 💐

Jaxjacky Tue 07-Jan-25 22:06:34

Me too, speed reading downfall, apologies.

Grandmabatty Tue 07-Jan-25 21:47:19

Grannmarie my apologies. I misread your post. It should say your sister.

Redcar Tue 07-Jan-25 21:35:06

grannmarie I lost all my confidence and decision making abilities when my DH died, and am quite a ditherer now! I think it’s age as well, most of my friends are the same, some are worse!
fgt sorry to hear about your friend, and that it’s brought your very natural worries to the surface. Thinking of you.
Night night.

Yiayia4 Tue 07-Jan-25 21:27:15

Sorry to hear about your friend FGT🤞crossed that he can be treated.Thank you all for your kind words as always.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jan-25 21:04:53

Thank you. Kitchen kindness as always. x

Grannmarie Tue 07-Jan-25 20:57:36

I'm puzzled, Grandmabatty and Jaxjacky. Thank you both for your kind wishes but I don't have a daughter? I'll need to check my post for typos!!

It will take some time to adjust to your new routine of school/ nursery drop offs and pick ups, Grandmabatty, you'll be so looking forward to seeing the boys at home time and hearing about their days.
Your dinner sounds yummy Jaxjacky, glad you had a better day today!
brook, I'm pondering over your post because I'm finding that I'm quite indecisive, and lacking in confidence these days. I wonder if it's an age thing?
Sorry to hear about your DH, GrandmaC47, but good to hear that he's been diagnosed and started treatment.
Sorry to hear about your friend, FGT, and the added worries this news brings for you.
👋 Hello, Doodle, lovely to see you! I hope you're doing OK.

I have all the decorations, tree etc down now, languishing in the guest bedroom, DS3 and lovely girlfriend will put them in the loft next time they visit. 👍 The house looks so bare now!

Hellogirl1 Tue 07-Jan-25 20:55:28

So sorry to read all the bad news, hopefully some will see improvement soon.
I hope you have a safe journey tomorrow, Mr and Mrs Soop, take care going over The Rest.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 07-Jan-25 20:46:31

I’m so sorry to hear your news FGT2. 🌹

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 07-Jan-25 20:45:37

Hello kitchen people.

Good news Yia! I hope all goes well tomorrow with the Soops.

I did more WI admin today… including a paper detailing my role as Secretary. I told the committee a year ago that I was giving up after this year’s AGM. I think eight years is long enough!

I had a nice chat with my stepfather tonight. He lives in Devon and doesn’t drive much any more. He’s ten years older than me (12 years younger than my late mum) and is godfather to all my children.

OH is out at his Shooting club. I might put Professor Alice Roberts on in a minute. OH has recorded her programme, even though it’s on iPlayer. She is a favourite of his.

The WI coffee morning was fun today. I was chatting to a 99 year old who is looking forward to a big party for her 100th in 2026.

Have a good evening.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jan-25 20:38:41

‘Evening All’.

Such wonderfully reassuring news Yiayia! Just brilliant.
Phew.

I’m feeling sad and anxious tonight. A really good friend who has been in hospital for 10 weeks over the summer has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Had an appointment at Christie’s today. He’s the same age as Himself. Due a scan in a couple of weeks to see if it’s spread. A fortnight after his scan it’s our turn. I just feel overwhelmed by thoughts of cancer tonight. It seems bluddy everywhere. Worrying never truly goes away because it can’t. Sorry to be on a downer tonight. Hopefully I’ll feel more upbeat tomorrow. It’s the shock I think.

Hope all goes well for you soop and your dear man. A long journey (travelling to hospitals in Scotland always involve huge distances don’t they, navigating around lochs and mountains?).
x

Jaxjacky Tue 07-Jan-25 20:37:08

Hi all from a cold but no snow south..
Flipping brilliant Yia such good news 👏👏👏
Sorry to hear about your daughter Grannmarie and your husband grandmaC47 I hope they both improve soon.
After my brain draining day yesterday today was a breeze, washing, a small village shop, charity shop donations, cash point and bananas.
Dinner now eaten - leeks and leftover chicken under mash with veg, feet are metaphorically up.
Safe journey both of you tomorrow soop

Doodle Tue 07-Jan-25 20:12:32

So pleased for you both Yiayia

Redcar Tue 07-Jan-25 19:45:40

yiayia good news about your DH, such a relief for you both.
grandma 47 is the uti in addition to the dvt? Your poor DH, he must be very fed up.
soop and mr soop I hope that the roads remain clear and that your respective appointments go well. Enjoy your lunch!
utbb I hope your decorator turns up on time and that you’re pleased with the results.
I’ve had a fairly restful day today, put a few things away, then saw my friend with dementia. She was asleep all afternoon, so I chatted to her DH, he was glad to have someone to talk to I think.
I had to spray the runners on my sliding porch door with WD40 this morning as they were frozen up & I couldn’t open the door.
Keep warm everyone. Night night

brook2704 Tue 07-Jan-25 19:14:00

Hoping the decorators turn up ok uttb and all goes to plan, it sounds like you’re well organised with what you want to do, well done - I’m really quite indecisive these days, I never used to be and it’s so frustrating going round in circles weighing up the options - it’s not a trait I like in myself!
It’s bound to feel strange at first gramdmabatty and you’ll miss the boys such a lot. It happens though, another chapter begins and they do really grow up so fast. I think with me it apart from missing them when they first went to school, I didn’t feel as useful or needed quite as much which also takes time to get used to. Sending you a big hug ❤️
Hoping things improve soon for your DH grandmaC47
Hoping ever in the quiet corner is doing ok, take care all x
