Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

It is currently -3 here and the cars are covered in ice crystals which are glinting in the street lights.
Very pretty but oh not nice.
Stay warm everyone and stay inside if that is possible.
Have a good night.

Hello everyone. My body is reluctant to sleep, suspect I’ll be reading until 3 or 4, can always tell.

Christmas was packed away on 1st here, the family are amazed, I usually start on Boxing Day. Slipping this time grin.

Back to the usual stuff, some grocery shopping and for a friend who is grounded after an ankle repair. A trip to the recycling centre to deposit part of the outcome of my mission to reduce the contents of the loft by at least 80%. It will never be empty as we’ve so little storage space otherwise in our tiny bungalow.

It’s been cold here too. Definitely best to stay off slippy pavements, especially. after any type of surgery. You’ve done so well redcar, don’t risk it now. I also slip about ladylfl while Mr C strides out with no problem, he says I slip because I’m nervous, could be right.

We’d hoped to be out for breakfast in, oh 9 hours, see what the world looks like when we should be setting out. Must venture forth at some point as I had a call telling me to,present myself at the hospital before 3 later today for yet another blood test. There will also be a jacket to collect from a store. My usual size was much too large, something I was quietly pleased about while being afraid the smaller size due in tomorrow will be too small. If so it’s just not to be. With luck I can also pick up some more photo albums for my reduce the photos challenge, I’m doing pretty well, Mr C is amazed at what he sees as my ruthlessness. Not that at all, just a desire to make life easier for the family in the future.

Off to read one of the books lurking in the iPad. Thinking of Mr and Mrs Soop and all in the quiet corner. Hope everyone is sleeping peacefully and will have a decent day ahead. Be careful out there if it’s slippy.

Redcar Fri 03-Jan-25 16:33:44

cornergran I hope you got some sleep last night eventually! I nearly replied to you at about 2.00 but for some reason I can only read posts on my iPhone, and can’t reply to them! I went to sleep at about 2.30!
I’ve always been nervous about slipping over, my DH used to stride out too, leaving me to creep along behind him.
I’m being very careful at the moment as my hip has been quite painful for a few days, I think I twisted it a bit on Monday. I’m doing my exercises and trying not to do too much housework! The consultant said it was ok yesterday, I have to see him again in 3 months time.
I hope your jacket isn’t too small!
Beautiful sunny day today, but bitterly cold. I wonder if we will get any snow tomorrow night?
Stay warm everyone.

Nannytopsy Fri 03-Jan-25 17:15:29

Good evening everyone, including the quiet corner. I think of you every day, soops and I hope you are keeping warm. Suffolk is very chilly but it has been a beautiful day.
DD and the little family arrive this evening. Hopefully the babies will go straight upstairs without waking … DH has been busy laying the table for lunch with everyone - a late Christmas for us! We finally break out some nice wine and good puddings!
I too am staying well away from icy pavements. All going well so far, staples out on Monday!
Enjoy the evening. It’s the final of University Challenge tonight!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 03-Jan-25 19:27:59

‘Evening All’.

It was Baltic here this morning, sunny by lunchtime then bitterly cold out now. Himself has just been out along the decking to the Biffa bins in the bin store and left our front door wide open to the cold air. Brr! Mind on the task at hand. 🫢
Keep wearing our big coats ladies when out and about.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 03-Jan-25 19:29:39

Good evening all from Stockport and the quiet corner.
The clear up here has begun but sadly some people who had units in a local mill have seen their businesses destroyed and they are giving up and losing everything.
It is heartbreaking to read their stories.
A very heavy frost last night was gone by late morning but leaving icy patches where water had frozen and got no sun today.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me as I have a decorator coming to give me a quote for the defunct dining room tomorrow.
This will be the third who has said they will come so I hope this one turns up.
The sofa I ordered in November is still in the warehouse waiting to be delivered and I have rashly ordered a matching armchair which will be available in three weeks.
I just hope I can get them both delivered together.

Nanny T I hope your visitors arrive safely and the smalls don’t rush to climb on your knee!!
You seem to be doing well , may it continue.

To others who have poorly family members , best wishes and I know someone has a wedding imminent.
Please, please forgive me if I can’t exactly remember who, my very old brain is not working as well as it did.

Yesterday it took me about an hour on the phone trying to upgrade my mobile phone contract, I really got in a state, I had to give it up and go back to it this morning, fortunately I seemed clearer in my mind and succeeded but I have to admit it scared and upset me that I couldn’t do it at first.

I wish you all a good and peaceful night.

cornergran Fri 03-Jan-25 19:49:16

Guess what folks? I presented myself at the hospital phlebotomists as requested (well ordered is more accurate) to hear “I can’t do that today as one of the tests the doctor wants can’t be sent for processing on a Friday”. After hearing my somewhat restrained recounting of the phone call the doctor was contacted. “Oh dear, please apologise to the patient, I got the day muddled”. You couldn't make it up. I am to present myself again in any day next week except Friday. I might!!

It’s been an odd day all round, nothing went quite to plan. Just one of those days. Not all bad. There has been a wonderful blue sky, the frost was very pretty, the roads not slippery.

I finally nodded off about 4, redcar, awake again at 7. I’ll do better tonight, maybe smile. Hope you’re more comfortable today.

🤞 for your decorators usedtobe. You're not alone in having to return to things. I sort of assume I’ll need to these days. Just another of the challenges of maturity I tell myself. Pleased you succeeded, understanding mobile contracts can be like wading through porridge.

Stay warm everyone. Love to all.

Jaxjacky Fri 03-Jan-25 19:55:41

Hi all, frosty already, we’ve e just shown our faces at my son’s birthday party in the local. Grocery delivery today and some cleaning, our decorations will stay up until Sunday, children and grandchildren here tomorrow for crispy duck.
Fingers crossed urbb; I hope today has gone well GG13, I found out today I’ve won a Suttons seeds voucher for £100 and a small PB win 🙂
Hope the quiet corner people are winning their struggles.

brook2704 Fri 03-Jan-25 20:29:21

What a shame about the mix up on the days corner - hope it goes ok next week!
Ive not been out today, there’s lots of snow and the side roads where we are look bad so we decided to stay put. The day has flown by, the decorations are mostly down but all now over the dining room table so I’ll need to box them up tomorrow
Hope your son is enjoying his party Jax and well done on your winnings! Enjoy the family time, you too nannytopsy
Take care all, especially those in the quiet corner x

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Jan-25 20:37:01

DH and I are home, I am prostrate on the sofa with a glass of wine, totally exhausted.

The Imp and his cousins had a marvellous time at the Nickelodeon Experience, and we have Al just returned from the Turkish restaurant round the corner from DS4.

Rather chilly out ❄️❄️❄️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 03-Jan-25 21:04:29

utbb I imagine you got in a muddle, panicked a bit then got flustered. Don’t dwell on it as it will only upset you. The main thing is you came back to it - and sorted it. ✔️ well done.

Redcar Fri 03-Jan-25 21:05:56

Oh dear corner you couldn’t really make it up could you. I hope you get the blood test done one day next week. I hope you have a better sleep tonight.
nannytopsy you’ll feel more comfortable when the staples are out. Have a lovely late Christmas with your family,
utbb floods are so destructive, so sad for those who have lost everything. I hope your decorator turns up.
I can sympathise about your mobile phone contract, I bought a new phone last year and for various reasons went into the O2 shop to arrange it. I was in there nearly 2 hours and was nearly in tears when I came out!
Thinking of the soops and all those in the quiet corner. Stay warm everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 03-Jan-25 22:29:11

Hello kitchen people.

An admin day today. A bit of WI stuff and then sorting out my Australian visa. The only hiccup was when I came to scan my passport. I have a new printer and the scanning thing is different to my previous printer. It took me a while to sort out and at one point I had a message to say that they would cancel my application in 5 minutes. I submitted it just in time. Within a couple of minutes I had an email telling me the visa was granted. It’s never been that quick before.

I’m thinking of those of you in the quiet corner.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Grandmabatty Sat 04-Jan-25 16:58:26

Cornergran what a nuisance for you. Let's hope next week is simpler. Brook how's the snow in your part of the world now?
I have been fighting a virus and a spell of the glums. The virus is almost gone and I'm dealing firmly with the glums. I managed to eat today without problems and eventually went to Aldi for milk and bread, in case of bad weather overnight. I also put a cover on my car windscreen, however I have no idea if it's on correctly or not! I hoovered and put dishes into the dining room. I haven't quite put them away yet, but at least they are in the appropriate room. Tonight will be dinner from the fridge and mainly vegetables. Then trifle. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the forthcoming snow is a non event. Take care all

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jan-25 17:29:21

“Evening All”.

I’ve had a very quiet day in my pj’s, keeping warm, watching a film (6888) on Netflix (which made my cry) and eating a BRAT diet (bland foods) to deal with the gastric bug I’ve had for 3 days now. Hopefully I’m turning a corner. No stomach cramps nor nausea today thankfully but when I rang my stepfather I told him we won’t all be going out for Sunday lunch tomorrow. Sensible decision I think.

He did make me laugh “You’re not having a good start to the New Year are you? No wine (I’m doing Dry January) and now no food!” 😁

Jaxjacky Sat 04-Jan-25 17:59:13

Oh no corner that’s annoying.
That’s no way to start January ‘clean dieting’ FGT may you recover soon.
We’ve had a very grey skied afternoon, sadly no snow, just light rain now.
Ducks are in the oven, expecting the family within the hour; to try for my three lucky wins yesterday I bought a lottery ticket, £4.10 winnings 🤣
Quiet corner wave 👋👋 xx

brook2704 Sat 04-Jan-25 18:21:39

Good afternoon kitchen pals, grandmabatty the snow is frozen and very crunchy! It’s been clear blue sky here today but nothing has melted as it’s been so cold 🥶 - more snow on the way tomorrow if the forecast is right. We weren’t planning to go out but mid afternoon I got a bit bored so off we went out for coffee and a browse around the sales at the retail park. We’re just home now, I only bought a few bits but it was good to get out
Sorry about the glums grandmabatty I think you must be missing those gorgeous little grandsons of yours, hope they bring you laughter and joys very soon
Enjoy the crispy duck Jax & family and hope Imogen’s option tastes good too
Hope you feel a bit better soon FGT
Well done with the visa LLFL sounds very efficient 👍

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 04-Jan-25 18:24:48

Hello kitchen people.

Oh dear FGT2, I hope you feel better soon.

I did a little WI admin today. Most of the day was spent stripping the tree and carefully packing away all the baubles etc. There were so many needles we had to change the Hoover bag.

I am having a rest and OH is making dinner. An odd dinner you might think. Prawn cocktails to start - he makes an excellent one. The main course will be six canapés each left over from Christmas. Miniature Yorkshire puddings filled with beef. Interesting.

Have a good evening.

Jaxjacky Sat 04-Jan-25 20:32:44

Offspring now gone, freezing rain, both have let me know they’re home ok, not often we do that!

Redcar Sat 04-Jan-25 20:40:12

fgt I hope you feel better soon, no food and no drink is a boring way to see in the new Year!
jax it’s been very cold and grey here this afternoon too. The weather forecasters don’t seem to know if we’re going to have snow or just rain here in Essex. I love snow, but now I just look at it! I expect it will be boring rain!
I took my Christmas cards down today, I didn’t do any other decorations because I wasn’t at home, but I have missed them. I think I’ll get some sparkly lights for the living room to brighten it up a bit.
Your dinner sounds interesting llfl, we had some of the mini beef burgers in buns canapés for lunch one day and they were very tasty and enough for a light lunch.
Night night everyone, keep warm and stay safe

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jan-25 21:25:55

Thanks everyone.
I’ve just got a mug of tea (splash of milk, daredevil me). I daren’t risk Horlicks just yet! 😁

brook2704 Sat 04-Jan-25 22:03:08

I usually leave a few sparkly lights up in the living room redcar, and candles too, it really helps brighten the long winter evenings
Did anyone who bought the Christmas edition of the Radio times get anywhere with the crossword at the back ? I just started looking at it tonight but didn’t get very far! 🤣

Jaxjacky Sat 04-Jan-25 22:17:05

I forgot to look brook I’ll oik it out of the recycling tomorrow, then be ashamed!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 04-Jan-25 22:18:05

I didn’t know you were a cruciverbalist brook.
😊

brook2704 Sat 04-Jan-25 22:23:56

Oh FGT I had to look that up! 🤣
