Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

Wishing all my lovely Kitchen pals a happy new year.

I’m very tied up with caring for Dh, who begins treatment in a couple of weeks time, and preparations for our youngest DD’s wedding next week.

TOYA. Xxx

utbb you sound very fed up, I hope your life improves and that the waters recede.
My best wishes SueD for the wedding and your caring, tricky times, don’t forget yourself x
A very late night/early morning chez Jax, I was up at 9 in case either grandchild surfaced, silly me, it was 11:30 when they did. It was very windy earlier and whilst that’s lessened, the rain keeps going, children dropped home three hours ago and we’ve done little. Plan to do more of the same as the temperature is dropping, so it’ll be Rogue Heroes or Vera this evening and a blissful early night.

Utbb, 💐, SueD 💐.
Jaxjacky, how lovely to have your DGC staying over, it's a wee while since ours did that and I miss it. Ages and stages...

Traditional steak pie for dinner today, DS3 and lovely girlfriend will join us. Leg of lamb tomorrow, the Wee Boy and his Mummy and Daddy will join us, weather permitting cos snow is forecast.

Wishing everyone a peaceful New Year's Day. Thinking of those in our cosy Quiet Corner. TOYA. 🥰

Just seen the flooding in your area on the TV news utbb stay safe and hope the waters recede soon. I also hope 2025 will see things looking up for you 💐

A quiet NY eve for us and the family came over at lunchtime today. I did a hot buffet. Truth be known I wanted to be rid of the party food to free up space in the freezer!

After a busy few days we are having a quiet evening in and looking forward to getting back to usual routines.

SueD a time of conflicting emotions 💐

‘Evening All’.

It’s raining again here this evening after a dry afternoon (not far from yourself utbb). You sound fed up. I think most of us can understand your family have taken huge liberties this Christmas with never a ‘by your leave’. Cheeky and inconsiderate. As you say - not happening again and good for you!

We’ve enjoyed a pub dinner. Cosy pub with a log fire. I do like picking up a menu and all choosing individually what we’d like to eat. Lucky us really to be able to go out and do this. Small pleasures that I no longer take for granted and so bring extra joy.

GrannySomerset Wed 01-Jan-25 18:10:31

Thinking of you, UTBB, and hoping the new year brings more consideration and kindness. I have had a nothing sort of day, just phone calls from the DC and several episodes of The Sweeney. Nothing much happening until I can get hold of the local builders so I shall worry about how major the leak in the kitchen is and how much upheaval fixing it will entail. And a happy new year to all our readers!

brook2704 Wed 01-Jan-25 18:39:49

Hi kitchen pals, we got a last minute invite to my friends house so we’ve both been there all afternoon having a good catch up and enjoying the company.
So sorry to hear you’ve had a such a difficult time uttb, hoping you can put it behind you and move on
SueD hoping all goes well for your DH, and the wedding too 💐
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, sending ❤️, take care all

Redcar Wed 01-Jan-25 20:22:22

sued, I hope your DH’s treatment goes well, and the wedding plans too.
uttb so sorry that your Christmas was as bad as you’d feared it would be.
After a spell in the quiet corner, I feel better now. My DH died four years ago today, but DD1 cooked a lovely meal for us all this evening and having both daughters, their partners and granddaughters together has made me count my blessings.
I slept through any local fireworks last night, but watched the London display at 4.30 this morning when I was awake. The wind was very noisy all night and most of today and we’ve had torrential rain like most of the country. Hope it’s better tomorrow.
Night night.

Redcar a sad anniversary for you and your family but they have made it as easy for you as they can.
Kindest thoughts to all this evening.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 01-Jan-25 20:58:09

Redcar, 💐

brook2704 Wed 01-Jan-25 21:32:54

redcar a difficult day but so lovely to have had your family with you to help you through it ❤️

Nannytopsy Wed 01-Jan-25 22:03:32

Good evening the Kitchen.
It’s hard to believe it’s over a week since surgery and Christmas. Where have those days gone?!
We can start to think of Spring soon. I didn’t have chance to check if the early snowdrops at our church are in flower. They are usually out before Christmas.
Best wishes everyone and sleep tight x

dragonfly46 Wed 01-Jan-25 22:26:51

Just popped in to wish everyone a happy one, especially soop a Happy New Year!

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 01-Jan-25 22:58:55

Sleep 💤 tight kitchen people!

mamaa Thu 02-Jan-25 10:02:49

HNY everyone- sorry it’s a bit late but I’ve kind of been ‘off grid’ for the most part of Christmas/New Year just popping in now and then.
Sorry to read about the trials and tribulations some of you have been under recently, and I hope things improve/ become more manageable in some way for you.
My brother aged 70 ( divorced) has been here for the festivities - he’s just set off for home in the NW of England- 6 hour drive ahead of him. Whenever I go back home ( still call it that, even though we’ve lived in Suffolk for 30 years!) I go by train- my long distance driving days are over!
Well, off I go to start taking the decs down, load the washer and see what foods remain/need to be replaced as we get ‘back to normal’ - whatever normal is in this house😉. xx

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 20:17:19

‘Evening All’.

I met a neighbour for coffee this afternoon and when I came home Himself had taken down our Christmas lights from the verandah (good, before the bad icy weather forecast arrives tomorrow). Sensible man. I took the cards down yesterday. The rest will be put away tomorrow. A bit earlier than Twelfth Night, but no matter.

It’s very quiet right now in the kitchen.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-Jan-25 20:20:13

Sitting in the quiet corner before a very hectic day tomorrow

Grannmarie Thu 02-Jan-25 20:37:01

Just settling down on the sofa with a nice glass of chilled SB, the Wee Boy and his Mummy and Daddy have just left after a lovely HNY visit, and a leg of lamb dinner.
It's bitter cold outside, we nearly froze as we waved them away, everything is white, even the bins which are out in the street for collection tomorrow. A long cold spell, with temperatures down to-5 to -7, is forecast for the coming week. Back to the thermals, layer up!
Hoping everyone has had the best New Year possible, best wishes for those returning to work/ childcare duties soon.

Thinking of the Soops and all in the quiet corner. Wishing everyone a peaceful Thursday evening, I'm thinking of watching the Lockerbie drama. 📺 TOYA.

Redcar Thu 02-Jan-25 20:41:41

Thank you all for your kind comments and support for my sad anniversary yesterday.
I had a consultant’s appointment regarding my recent hip replacement surgery this morning. It was reassuring to know that the aches and pains I have are all part of the healing process. (I don’t remember them from the other hip replacement last year). He was pleased with my walking, and will see me again in three months time.
I hope to have a short walk tomorrow provided the pavements aren’t icy. I think I may stay in at the weekend, the forecast is for snow or rain! I need to take the Christmas cards down, but didn’t put any decorations up because I was at DD1s. Still plenty of tidying to do.
Keep warm everyone.
Night night.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 20:58:36

Don’t go outside unless you have to Redcar. Wait for the pavements to be dry and ice-free. Maybe just walk around your house, it’ll do for now. x

brook2704 Thu 02-Jan-25 21:07:06

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been a busy day here. This morning I started the cleaning and taking down decorations as I was going along. I fully intended to carry on all day but we got an unexpected invite to DD2s this afternoon so we’ve been round there, seen the DGC, played a few games and we’re just home now
Good to hear things are progressing well redcar but take extra care if out and about
Lots of snow here today too grannmarie, extra layers are ready here as well 🥶
Hugs to all in the quiet corner x

NannyG4 Thu 02-Jan-25 21:11:39

Redcar sending you belated thoughts, does it get any easier?
I don’t know where I’d be without my daughter, son, their partners and 4 beautiful grandchildren. I just feel sad that my DH isn’t here to share the love they give me….

I’ve had quite a nice day, went with friends to support another friend swimming in the sea for her charity. The sun came out…and we then went for coffee and a bacon sandwich. Tomorrow another friend is treating me to lunch.

Sending my love and prayers to you all, especially those who are finding life difficult at the moment….

Doodle, any luck with the bracelet..?

❤️🙏🙏❤️

Jaxjacky Thu 02-Jan-25 22:13:25

A good report Redcar as others have said, wait until it’s safe, icy days ahead.
You are coping well NannyC4 what the love of family and friends does for us all when in crisis is immeasurable.
My son is officially 34 plus 2 hours! I remember it well, a home birth; he liked his presents today.
Not a sniff of the white stuff here brook 🙄

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 02-Jan-25 22:27:01

Hello kitchen people.

No snow here but it’s cold and there was a frost this morning.

I spent most of the day doing admin and chatting to friends on the phone.

If you don’t have to go outside when it’s icy, don’t! I have a history of slipping on slippy pavements: one time I broke a bone in my back, another time I damaged my shoulder very badly but worst was when I slipped on my right arm which already had metal plates in it from a motorcycle accident. I had to have another operation to replace those bits of metal with heftier and heavier metal plates. Do be careful!

Sleep 💤 tight.
