soop what did your medics say? Are they still discussing it? Where are you up to with it all? It’s been ongoing now for months. Do you have options? 🤞
Good Morning Monday 18th May 2026
Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.
We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.
By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.
I am off to my bed.
Thank you all for being extra special people.

Oh soop like others have said I really hope something can be done to help with the uncomfortable hernia, it must be really difficult to manage, sending a gentle hug your way 💐
Thank you all for your kind wishes, we’ve had an early start and a busy day today but everything is fine. We arrived in Estepona about 2pm after an easy journey from Glasgow airport this morning. We’ve a little apartment overlooking the sea and it’s just perfect. We’ve been out to eat and just back now as it’ll be a very early night for us before a day of exploring tomorrow. It was so good to shed some winter layers and to actually feel warm this afternoon, my sandals and T-shirts are back out again for a while!
Thinking of everyone especially those in the quiet corner, take care all x
Soop my heart goes out to you 💐. I hope and pray something can be done for you. Grannmarie I hope you had a good time at the party.
I was in Edinburgh this afternoon to see The Nutcracker. It was wonderful. A very lavish production. I managed to walk to the station and then to the Festival Theatre from Waverley and then back again afterwards. My friend and I had a small fish supper and he's just gone home. I will tidy up and relax. I wish you all a good evening.
Sounds lovely Grandmabatty. Perfect from start to finish. It’s nice you have a kulcha friend. 😊
My sister lives in the hillside just behind you brook.
Casares.
Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰 Aww, Soop, I'm sorry that your hernia has developed to that size, hoping and praying that your doctors come back with a comfortable solution. You've been the soul of patience.
It was great to join DGS1 and family for the start of his 18th birthday celebrations. He is a great boy, a quiet, gentle giant (well over 6ft), and we are very thankful to have watched him grow into a young man. Very insightful and poignant comment, brook, I wish you the same for your DGC. Lovely to catch up with DDIL1's parents and family too. The Wee Boy had a good time with his big cousins, and their cousins, and loved playing with Grandpup who is much calmer now and very patient with the children.
Today DS1 and DGS1 came here to help with techy stuff, DS1 fitted a new radio mijig in DH'S car, a dash cam in mine, and DGS1 set up my new laptop, my Christmas gift from our AC. Then they put the Christmas tree 🎄 up in the loft. A great help! We had lentil soup and crusty bread, then cheeseboard, some of their favourites.
I'm relaxing now in front of the TV 📺, looking forward to CTM at 8pm.
Wishing everyone in Soop's special Kitchen a peaceful Sunday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.
Sounds like a great day out Grandmabatty, well done on all that walking!
Enjoy the sunshine ☀ brook, we stayed in Forest hills in Estepona, up the hill past the riding school. Wonderful views of Gibraltar.
How lovely to be warm brook!
I walked to the postbox in lovely sunshine, avoiding the icy bits. It should thaw tomorrow, they say.
I’ll wave FGT! 👋
What a lovely day grandmabatty
grannmarie ❤️
I’ve been asleep for an hour and an half and just woken up wide awake - I thought it was the morning!
Oh my soop I hope it can be solved soon 🤞
Just back from London, the panto was brilliant, the mist fabulous costumes, Julian Clary & Nigel Havers were hilarious. My fave aches from laughing.
Wishing you all a good night 🙋♀️
🤷♀️ most not mist
face not fave
Oh Soop, I will pray for you 🙏…you really are an amazing brave lady God Bless you 💐💐
I'm going to have to work backwards....Soop I don't know how you can be so stoical...I would be on the phone to the consultants secretary every Monday until I got an answer and a resolution. You and Mr Soop have patience in spades. Bless you both.
In no particular order as Ant and Dec say and apologies if I forget anyone ( I've discovered if I flick back to previous me posts I lose what I've written so far so I have to try and remember).
Yia ... Lovely news about your DH and how bitter sweet with your DIL's news. May he rest in peace...
Granmarie..the same is wished for your neighbours daughter. So very sad. I hope your sister is getting better now too. I'm still really tired most days...or am I just lazy?
Brook... Days in the sun...I think that's what we all need just now. Enjoy your together time too. I could just picture you at Glasgow airport with your glass of wine.
Tilly....I know just what you mean about chatting to everyone...I even had a flight of fancy about flying up to Glasgow to meet the GG's.
GrandmaB... It's the right of passage with little ones off to nursery and then big school and the sort of redundant feeling takes a little while to settle....and then just as you've filled up your days so it's holiday time and you are back on duty.
FGT... It's lovely to read about your trips out with your darling man....long long may it continue. How practical he is too...and obviously very kind. I hope the good days push any worries right back in their box.
Jax...I love the style of the dress...and the colour. I can't wear that colour as I'm too pale skinned but it looks gorgeous on others and the necklace is such a good match. Is MrJ a bit disconcerted as it means he too will have to up his sartorial elegance for your birthday? Is it a special one?.
Redcar...I hope you feel comfortable when you try getting in your car...freedom awaits if you do.
GrannyG4 and Doodle... Your words made me feel so sad. I feel sure though that your DH's are whispering to you....You can do this.... I'm not far away.
Sending you both love and hope.....both never die. X
UTBB... Christmas sounded dire...I hope whatever decisions you decide regarding future ones bring you peace of mind. I hope DGD got on ok in the snow.
DH stopped to help a young female driver who had been in a crash in the snow on the Blackdown Hills. She wasn't hurt just shocked and scared. I told him to stay with her until her parents arrived. They were very grateful. I was just glad that he was in his 'new' car (Christmas present) which is a 4 wheel drive. It's a RAV4 and sturdy...and a Toyota so of course he's happy as he worked for them for nearly 20 years.
Also lovely that the decorator turned up and you'll have a new room going into spring.
SueD...how did the wedding go? Are pictures allowed? I hope you had a fabulous time with all your family.
I hope everyone in the quiet corner finds solace as needed.
I cannot tell you all how much I appreciate being able to come here and open my heart and spill out the good and the bad and to be overwhelmed by the love and support that flows back to me. Don't ever change. Xx
Oh and a little aside.... There church wedding is happening...June 28th...so standby for requests for advice, calming words, virtual slaps around my face if I become a geriatric bridezilla.
Thank you so much for the paragraphs, Neine, they make your interesting posts so much easier to read.
Brilliant news, the decorator turned up and has started.
I assume that as he has started he will finish.
He seems ok but doesn’t like using just two words when the same thing can be said in a hundred, I am keeping out of the way or the job will never be done.
We have a thaw here and the house is very warm but on reflection I would rather be in Spain with Brooke.
I hope they are having a lovely time.
I am still several degrees under par but hopefully when this job is done I can be stress free and can enjoy life again.
To all others not well I send commiserations and best wishes.
Have a lovely holiday Brook.
SueD hope wedding went well.
That's a big hernia Soop hope surgeon can help you.
Neine I am still tired after virus
How is shoulder utbb.
Granmarie lovely to enjoy your grandsons 18th we spent evening with eldest grandson when he turned 16yrs, these lads are very tall or is it is that's shrinking!!
Best wishes to all.
You lovely lot are a blessing. Your kind words are most comforting. Thank you. All that I can do is wait and hope and have faith that, once he sees the result of the scan, the surgeon can offer me a way forward. So many people donated and helped me to raise the huge amount that it cost to have the original stoma surgery performed privately. If only the surgeon had informed me that I should wear a support from day one, this hernia would not have developed.
Too late for regrets.
Oh soop that lack of communication is shameful.
I bet you were devastated to find that out.
Oh Soop it is absolutely shocking that you are enduring something that need never have happened. I’m so sorry.
I also proffer flowers to those who are sad or unwell or simply feeling that life is very difficult right now.
It’s also good to hear of happy days and warmer climes and all the small things that make us happy.
TOYA. Xxx
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and best wishes for my DD’s wedding. 👰♂️🤵♂️ It was all just perfect, beginning with the weather, which was extremely cold but brilliantly sunny with blue skies.
The ceremony took place in a lovely room in the city chambers. It was short but meaningful and there were more than a few tears, although not from me, oddly, nor from the bride and groom, thank goodness!
The afternoon tea reception was held at a traditional Highland hotel in the Cairngorms, which the groom’s family from down south absolutely loved. There was enough snow and frost to show Scotland at its finest but not enough to inconvenience anyone. Everyone mixed and mingled with everyone else, the bride and groom didn’t stop grinning all day and the children loved it all (nothing to do with skiving off school, I’m sure).
By 6pm most people retired to their rooms, declaring they couldn’t possibly eat another morsel. At 8pm we all met again in the dining room, ready for a two or three course dinner - the food was all superb! I think everyone was ready for bed by about 11 o’clock but we reconvened for a hearty Scottish breakfast next morning before everyone apart from the bride and groom, who were staying on, departed for home.
I felt so blessed to have had my beautiful family under one roof, and cannot believe how lucky we are to have such lovely daughters-and-sons-in-law. I wish I could share a photo or two but in this day and age I feel it’s just not wise.
There was one small disappointment for my local 7yo GD. Part of afternoon tea was a choice of teas or tissanes. My other 7yo GD suggested they both have camomile tea as she likes it when she drinks some with her mummy, which local GD readily agreed to. Asked later what she thought of it she said ‘It was ok, I suppose, but it didn’t taste anything like caramel.’ ❤️
Thanks for asking Gillgran my shoulder is about the same as at the start.
Extremely painful in the morning but responds to co-codamol as the day goes on.I haven’t approached the GP yesterday as I find with things like this they tend to say just wait and see as really not a lot can be done. However I won’t put up with it forever, I shall give it another week or so.
The snow has completely disappeared now , it’s not exactly mild but a bid difference to last week.
The decorator did six hours today and oh goodness I remembered just how much I dislike having anyone in to do jobs.
The house is not one’s own.
Longer day tomorrow when he fits some sort of lighting up.
My electrician GS came and took the central light down for the ceiling to be papered and of course it was getting dark by 4pm.
Roll on Friday.
Lovely news of the wedding Sue
It sounds as if it was perfect.
‘Evening All’.
I have half a shoulder of lamb roasting in the oven. It’s smells delicious. All veggies prepped and we shall eat about 7:30pm. Himself has just poured me a schooner of HBC sherry. Just the ticket while I mess about on here for an hour.
I accompanied my stepfather to his annual renal out patient appointment. All is well. The nurses couldn’t believe he’s 92y. He stands so straight and dresses so smartly. 💙
The consultant was amazed asking him about his hobbies “I get tired now doctor after gardening for about 20 minutes but I’ve learned to pace myself with that and housework. Little and often works best for me these days”. He was telling the doctor his brother will be 100y at the end of summer, all being well.
On our way home we talked about telegrams from the King. I’m sure someone has to apply? Anyway my stepfather said he will discuss it with one of his second cousins in Wester Ross this week. 😁
Lovely news about your daughter’s wedding SueDonim! It all sounds fabulous and I’ll bet you’ll have many superb photos to look back on.
utbb hold tight, you’re getting there. Soon your house will be home again and you can decide how much (or little) you want to share it. I think you’ve earned some peace and quiet. And contentment.
As my lovely late mother in law used to say “Please others and you displease yourself”.
After SueD’s lovely wedding news my GD has come home to say one of her good friends booked her wedding yesterday at a very lovely venue in Cheshire. It is next February, that is how long before these things have to be booked, and I will be receiving a “ save the date card” and my lovely GD is to be a bridesmaid!!
“Whoop, whoop!”
