Welcome dear Kitcheners. I am very happy to be opening the door to my favourite Granspals.

We have a new Aga. The atmosphere is cosy ' The buffet is ready for the sharing of. In the quiet corner we have music to suit all tastes. There are reclining chairs and cosy blankets and if all one wants to do is relax, then please do so.

By the way, it is a dear pal Baggs birthday tomorrow. There is a birthday cake in the larder. There is also plenty of Champagne with which to toast her.

I am off to my bed.

Thank you all for being extra special people. flowers moon]

Just popping my head around the door to see how everyone is. What a winter we are all having!
I hope the poorlies all improve soon.
Keep safe, those of you in the storm. Hopefully we’ll all be able to check in tomorrow 😊

Hellogirl1 Fri 24-Jan-25 15:31:11

I hope the Soops are alright, I see the red warning covers where they live.

Baggs Fri 24-Jan-25 16:44:50

Just had a message from soop. They have been without power today until just now. She sends love to all. I told her people had been sending good wishes and hoping their MrS is comfortable.

Naughtyneine Fri 24-Jan-25 17:52:48

Just checking in to make sure everyone is safe....

TillyTrotter Fri 24-Jan-25 18:50:34

Good evening kindly kitcheners.
I hope everyone in affected areas are coping in the storm. The last thing the soops need is a prolonged lack of power but many thanks for letting us know Baggs.

A bright and blowy day down South so we got off lightly.
Wishing all with health issues better days to come. So much poorliness which is saddening .

Jaxjacky Fri 24-Jan-25 19:24:47

Hi all, similar Tilly down south too, but family near Belfast and in Donegal have had no power for nearly 11 hours, lots of trees down too, but all ok.
A quiet day here, not just the weather, some house cleaning, pharmacy to collect and a grocery delivery.
Hoping everyone is safe, enjoy your evenings

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 24-Jan-25 19:26:42

‘Evening All’.

Happy to report ‘all good here’.
Hope it’s the same for everyone in the kitchen tonight.

Back to my book …. 😁

There's a lot of illness and worries in the kitchen we are waiting for results of scan and 24he tape that oh had a few weeks back .Hope everyone is staying safe.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 24-Jan-25 22:16:18

Hello kitchen people. So many of us are ailing although my cold is finally receding.

OH drove me to our nearby town. (I am not using my car until next Tuesday when I go to Oxford and pick up my new car. So excited.) I collected my ticket from the Arts Society meeting for a Study Day in March on Georgian Cookery.

I paid for my car online. I find that rather nerve wracking. All the way through the transaction popups appear warning you of fraud and whether you can afford to lose the amount of money you are dealing with. Eek! Anyway, the money appeared in the right place and the dealership guy let me know it had gone through, I am picking the car up on Tuesday. I’ll post a picture.

I should be in Kew but elder son and his partner didn’t want to risk driving in the wilds of Scotland.

Because I’m home unexpectedly this weekend, OH and I thought we would try out a new Sunday lunch venue. Well, the venue is new but the landlord and his wife were based at our favourite Sunday lunch restaurant and moved just before Christmas. This is our first opportunity to try it out.

Sleep 💤 tight everyone.

I cancelled meeting a friend for coffee yesterday because of the dire warnings. It was cold here, but the sun came out, and hardly a leaf moved until p.m., when there was a light breeze. I was lucky, living about 4 miles from Heathrow, where there were gusts of 100 mph. It is beyond my addled brain.

Take care of yourselves, Spring is around the corner, I promise.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 25-Jan-25 15:11:38

Good afternoon all.
It is very sunny here today in Stockport, cold but clear blue sky.
I hope not much storm damage has been experienced although I do realise some areas have been hit hard.
We just had bins and contents strewn all over the roads here as it was bin day.
My Sainsbury’s delivery driver said it was hazardous trying to dodge it all.

I have been out this morning and chosen the flooring for my “new room”
I have gone for laminate, partly for practical reasons but partly for cost.
It is so long since I had new flooring I was shocked by the prices.
It is being fitted next weekend, the decorating was done last week and the two items of furniture chosen will be delivered the week starting the 3rd of Feb.
I am at last feeling some enthusiasm for it.

I have been very down since my not good Christmas but am trying to motivate myself.
It is not easy.

I hope SueD finds her DH feeling better today, along with Mr Soop and Yia’s DH.
I will have missed some carers and being cared for so apologies for my poor memory.

I am going to see a friend early evening for a Chinese takeaway, we haven’t met up for two months so plenty to catch up on.

Take care all and enjoy your evening if you can.

‘Evening All’.

We’ve had a busy but enjoyable day. L’il Miss had a great birthday party at the roller rink Trafford Centre. Then we took my stepfather to M&S Food Hall. I’ve poured myself a glass of red wine, chicken roasting in the oven smells divine and I’ll pop a tray of M&S dauphinois potatoes in soon. In the meantime back to my book. 😁

Wishing everyone in the quiet corner some respite from anxieties tonight. And 👋 to Blossoming if you’re reading. I hope you’re okay. x

How could I have forgotten Dixon? He’s a comforting presence in an uncertain world.

Grandmabatty Sat 25-Jan-25 18:46:35

Good evening Kitcheners. After the storm yesterday, it's been a calm day today. I've had dgs2 since before lunch time and I have laughed the whole time. He decided he was a mum and I was sweetheart. I had to do as he said . He needed boobs, he said, and used a pair of sunglasses on his chest. He 'tidied' the living room. Then he wanted to know why daddies can't have babies in their tummy. I've passed that to mum to deal with 😂. He's just out of the bath and is having supper then bed at seven. I'll make my gammon salad and chips after that. Have a good evening

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 25-Jan-25 18:54:41

Oh Grandmabatty that’s too cute. 💙

GrannyGravy13 Sat 25-Jan-25 18:55:00

Hi kitchen friends, I have had a really lazy day.

DH is cooking dinner (duck breasts), I am on the sofa with a glass of white wine (cheers FGT2 )

(((hugs))) to all in need 🙋‍♀️

kittylester Sat 25-Jan-25 19:14:09

I'm just enjoying a lovely chilled rosé so cheers to everyone else who is indulging - it is Saturday after all.wine

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 25-Jan-25 21:36:11

Hello kitchen people.

I spent some time this morning clearing out my car! All I’ve left in it is an air freshener and a square of carpet in the boot which a friend insisted I have.

I then made a recipe out of today’s Guardian - a marmalade and breadcrumbs cake. I’ve frozen it as I think it will be a good pudding next time we have someone over. I made a chicken pie for dinner. My recipe includes garlic, a touch of madeira and plenty of mushrooms. The pastry was a subtle shade of orange! I have been using eggs with almost red yolks and as I put one egg in my shortcrust it changed the colour. Odd, but it taste fine.

I should have spent some time on Go Compare or similar, searching for a reasonable price for car insurance on my new car. I’ll have a look in the morning before we go out for lunch.

I hope we’ve all had a good day, and those in the sick bay are a little more perked up.🌹

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰
Dear Soop, I'm so sorry to hear that you've been without power, you could have done without that! Thinking of you both, hope you're comfy and cosy now.

UsedToBeBlonde, you're making steady progress with your new room. I hope it lifts your spirits after your difficult Christmas. Enjoy your evening with your friend, I love a Chinese takeaway!

Grandmabatty, your wee boy has entertained you well today, you're making wonderful memories!💙

FGT, happy birthday to your wee granddaughter, her party sounds amazing!

Ladyleftfieldlover, glad you're feeling a bit better. Sorry your weekend isn't going according to plan.

Hoping everyone is OK after the storm. My sister's fence is down, one neighbour's shed blew over and another found the 'granny' off someone's chimney in his garden. DS1 's greenhouse was damaged and neighbouring trees came down. But so long as nobody's hurt, that's the main thing.
DSis1 had a power cut today, I invited them round but they managed OK until power was restored.
We've not had anything like that for a long time.

DH and I enjoyed watching Jules and Greg's Wild Swim ( BBC Scotland) from the Orkney Islands, it featured places we have visited, the Italian Chapel and the Churchill barriers. Beautiful scenery and a ' kleenex moment ' when they went to the Chapel.
Beef olives and jacket potatoes for an easy dinner, courtesy of the slow cooker and air fryer!

Thinking of all the poorly husbands, hoping and praying for some improvement.

Well done to Redcar and Nannytopsy on their improved mobility, great progress!

Thinking also of all in the quiet corner and those with illness, worries or sorrow.

Hoping Blossoming and MrB are doing OK.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Saturday evening and a good night's sleep.
TOYA, NNGB.

SueDonim Sat 25-Jan-25 21:51:09

My area escaped any real damage yesterday, though one of my cats was disturbed by the storm. The other cat couldn’t have cared less.

Dh is looking better. He’s off oxygen now and there’s talk that he could get home on Monday.

TOYA. Xxx

Grannmarie Sat 25-Jan-25 22:19:03

That's great news, SueD!

GrandmaC47 Sat 25-Jan-25 22:26:21

I’ve left the quiet corner to tell you that my dh, who was diagnosed with a dvt just before new year had a call from his doctor to say all of his tests were clear and showed no underlying health issues and the dvt was deemed spontaneous. He will stay on blood thinners for six months. The relief is great.
I’ve kept up with reading your news and I realise my worries are small compared to some of you. I wish you better times ahead. Especially the Soops.
A quick thanks to FGT for her kind response on another forum.

Grannmarie Sat 25-Jan-25 22:50:04

GrandmaC47, thank you for your update, that is wonderful news about your DH. A weight off your shoulders! You'll both sleep so much better now. Take care.

Nannytopsy Sat 25-Jan-25 23:12:39

Good news for GrandmaC47 & SueD about their husbands. A relief for you both. We had DD and family since Thursday plus DS and family joined us for dinner last night. The Christmas capon came out of the freezer and SiL put his butchery skills to use. It was boned, stuffed and rolled. The result was delicious and may replace turkey in future.
Our 9 yo granddaughter played with her cousins ( 1 and 2) so beautifully and they loved her attention, while we waited for DGS to arrive from his club. A very happy evening.
There is a baptism in church tomorrow afternoon and I think I need to do some work on the font. Probably hasn’t been used for 20 years and is hidden under a C14 wooden cover.
I hope power has been restored to the Soops.
Sleep tight everyone.
