Today I was on my way out with my DH when we noticed something on the pavement opposite our house. We stopped the car to take a look. We discovered a man dead on the pavement.

Oh no! How awful.. are you ok?

Kate1949 Fri 29-Nov-24 17:11:52

Not great. He hadn't been attacked or anything. He must have had a heart attack or stroke. I would say he was in his 60s. We've been through the ringing the ambulance, being instructed in CPR (which I took instructions for whilst other passersby who had by then stopped administered), talking to police. What an absolute nightmare.

Oh so sorry- this is a terrible thing to witness. Hope his family have been contacted.

Omg how very distressing for you all.

How awful for you and the poor man's family. flowers

valdavi Fri 29-Nov-24 18:09:06

that must have really shaken you up. Poor man.
Well done you for stopping to check & doing what you could, though.

Awful experience for you, but wonderful that you stopped to help, even in vain.

The man's family will probably be thankful that you cared enough to try, and that might help them in their grief.

TerriBull Fri 29-Nov-24 18:13:19

How awful, so sorry for you how upsetting. That .poor man

V3ra Fri 29-Nov-24 18:14:40

How awful for you all Kate 😥
Well done for doing so much to help.

Grannybags Fri 29-Nov-24 18:15:14

Well done for coping and trying to help. I’m sure his family would like to know someone cared flowers

Kate1949 Fri 29-Nov-24 18:20:19

Dying in the street is awful. We live on a quiet road but everyone who passed by stopped to help, including three young (Polish I think) workmen who stopped their van and took turns with the CPR. A traumatic day indeed.

Astitchintime Fri 29-Nov-24 18:22:36

What a dreadful experience for everyone involved. Hope you are OK.

Kate1949 Fri 29-Nov-24 18:26:30

A bit tearful tonight I must admit.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-Nov-24 18:31:44

Oh bless you Kate1949 for your humanity and kindness.

Aveline Fri 29-Nov-24 18:32:57

What a shocking time for you. Horrible for the poor man's family of course. Nice to hear that so many people rallied round to help. I hope you can have a calmer weekend after this awful incident.

Mollygo Fri 29-Nov-24 18:35:10

What a shock for you. Good that you and others could help, especially reassuring for his family, but definitely a horrendous day.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 29-Nov-24 18:59:06

Oh Kate what a terrible experience. Please be proud of your ( and others) kindness at such a time.
Take care of yourself this weekend.

GrannySomerset Fri 29-Nov-24 19:34:30

A dreadful experience but at least you know you did all you could. And the helpfulness of strangers is cheering too. Hope you can sleep!

TerriT Fri 29-Nov-24 19:44:16

What a terrible shock you have had. Take comfort in you did all you could as did the others who tried to help. Accept what an upsetting and frightening day it’s been and don’t tell yourself it hasn’t! Be kind to yourself over the next few days, women of our generation were brought up to be tough which is a double edged sword in my opinion.

Kate1949 Fri 29-Nov-24 19:48:43

Thanks everyone. I hope the poor man's family have each other. I think a few 🍷 will be called for for me later.

Babs03 Fri 29-Nov-24 19:57:36

I really can’t imagine how awful that must have been. The poor man and poor you to have to deal with something so distressing.
So glad others came along to help.
Well done for sticking with it. Now go and have a drink or three.
