Heard ‘Stop The Cavalry’ this morning, I really like this and not sure why🤭
What songs do you like?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-Nov-24 17:20:08

There is something about Fairy Tale of New York that I like, along with either Rod Stewart or Michael Buble’s version of some of the classic Christmas songs.

My favourite carol is Carol of the Chimes

There is definitely something about 'Fairy Tale of New York' though there shouldn't really!!

I love Little Drummer Boy' - the Bing Crosby and David Bowie version.

Kate1949 Sat 30-Nov-24 17:25:58

Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea.

Georgesgran Sat 30-Nov-24 17:26:29

The Power of Love - Frankie goes to Hollywood.

Oh dear KL - not Little Drummer Boy - ever.

Georgesgran Sat 30-Nov-24 17:28:05

Should add they played ‘A Spaceman came Travelling’ at the garden centre today - I’d forgotten how melodic that was.

Grandmabatty Sat 30-Nov-24 17:35:39

Georgesgran The Power of love and A spaceman came travelling are two of my favourites. Along with Greg Lake and They said there'd be snow this Christmas

Georgesgran Sat 30-Nov-24 17:38:00

Yes, Gbatty all such lovely tunes and good lyrics. I often watch Holly Johnson on YouTube singing PoL at the end of Taskmaster - he’s still got the voice.

I’m an old fashioned girl when it comes to Christmas songs, I like the crooners from the fifties and sixties. My absolute favourite is Let it Snow, the Dean Martin version.

I absolutely LOATHE Fairytale of NY! If it comes on over the tannoy in shops, I have had to leave! It’s THAT bad! I also absolutely hate ‘Do they know it’s Christmas?’. I have suffered that dreadful racket for forty years and the only reason I am glad to be old is that there is no way I’ll have to suffer it for many more!
It really is about time we had some new, tuneful songs to celebrate the season.
I sound like grumpy old woman. I’m not! I love Christmas, it’s just those songs I hate!

I Believe in Father Christmas
Last Christmas
I wish it could be Christmas everyday
are my favourites.

GirlyGran Sat 30-Nov-24 18:06:30

Michael Buble version of Baby Please Come Home is my favourite followed by Chris Rea Driving Home For Christmas.

Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea.

Yes, and the dog agrees too!

Also The Snowman song.

AskAlice Sat 30-Nov-24 18:21:15

Our ritual at Christmas is to put up the tree and decorations to the sound of Phil Spector's Christmas Album - nothing beats it for sheer joyfulness and it puts me in the Christmas mood! I do admit that I always stop it at the end when Phil himself gives his Christmas message - there are limits...

AskAlice Sat 30-Nov-24 18:25:33

I think I may have mentioned before, but our elder DD had only ever heard the Phil Spector version of "Frosty the Snowman". When her class had to rehearse a version for their very first Christmas Concert, at the age of 5 she immediately went straight into the Ronettes version complete with vigorous dance routine. Her teacher and the Head Teacher were in fits of laughter and told me all about it when I went to pick her up at the end of the day!

AskAlice Sat 30-Nov-24 18:29:39

Sorry, too many "versions"!!

Jaxjacky Sat 30-Nov-24 18:34:25

pandapatch Sat 30-Nov-24 18:34:39

I like Fairytale of New York and also Bruce Springsteen Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Nell82 Sat 30-Nov-24 18:44:41

I love Johnny Mathis singing When a Child is Born. His voice has a pure quality that tugs at the old heart strings.

Witzend Sat 30-Nov-24 18:46:44

I really like ‘Have yourself a merry little Christmas’. I never really knew the words until we were given a sheet music version to play at my piano/keyboard group a few years ago - I find some of the words very poignant.
I shall be digging it out and playing it again soon!

What songs do you like?

That is probably my favourite one :-) It's a bit unusual and special. However I do love singing Christmas Carols as well. My favourite Carol is Ding Dong Merrily on High.

MiniMoon Sat 30-Nov-24 18:51:48

Carol of the bells
For unto us a child is born (Handel's Messiah).
