Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but dry at the moment here in brackley this morning.
Today for me will be the bus trip to Bicester ,so some shopping have a chat with some people I know.
Return to do a mixture of housework , laundry and relax .
On the health front starting to regain weight ,as the weight loss weakened me , gaining a few pounds is better for me.
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from a bright W Kent, no rain so far. Food delivery this morning and hopefully a parcel from DD1. This afternoon I have my deaf group meeting, a very diverse supportive group as of course anyone can be deaf. Tea and cake all round. Later I hope to catch up with DD2 and GC.
I hope Iris gets the support she needs gM
Stay dry if you can

Good morning from a dry grey Cambridgeshire.
Yesterday I managed to do my Christmas baking for the freezer in the afternoon. Pilates was challenging using “the magic circle”. It was fun tho!
Just waiting for DH to wake up to make a decision whether we are visiting an English Heritage property today. It is decorated up for Christmas with a Narnia theme. He has had a nasty cold so need to see if he is well enough for a trip out!

Sending best wishes to all for a good day 💐

GrannyIvy Fri 06-Dec-24 08:14:27

Few absent regulars hope you are all ok. 🌻

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is currently 3°C.

GM, I am sorry to hear about Iris and her struggles. Your DD needs to contact the school ASAP, alert them to her unhappiness and ask for support. The sooner there is an intervention, the better.

Yesterday was full on, looking after Babydoll, however she was in great form and unusually affectionate. At the moment, she is obsessed with potatoes and when I was cleaning up the chaos, I discovered a potato under the conservatory sofa. 🤷‍♀️

The journey to take her home in the rush hour was horrendous, with badly flooded roads and her crying sorely. We were later than usual, because DIL sat chatting, before taking Dollie home.

DH is golfing, I am dreading his return.💦 .💦.💦.💦 Sadly his golfing partner can no longer play, due to his illness.
I have a parcel to pick up, Curver boxes to source for the Nativity costumes, then it's the the school run again.
Dollie is delighted that she will have us all to herself today. Yesterday, she came home from school, with a massive hole in her tights and a twisted ankle, having fallen and worried her mum would be annoyed. I told her her that daddy came home every day with holes in his trousers and I would point this out to them. 😉

My day is full on again. This retirement lark is hard work,

Best wishes to all, who are struggling.

Good morning from Malta where the sky is blue and the temperature around 18°C. The forecast says it might rain this morning with a chance of hail! Doesn’t seem cold enough but we’ll see I guess!

I’m feeling slightly more human after an awful week of being unwell.

The boys visited yesterday which always cheers me up and I will be babysitting tonight whilst DD3 and husband are at a birthday party.

I’ve had upsetting news from my goddaughter this morning. Her husband has had some very worrying results from recent tests. He’s only 50 and they have a little girl aged 4. I’m hoping and praying all will be well but it sounds very concerning.

Poor little Iris, I do feel for her and any child who is unhappy. I hope help will be at hand to guide her through this hurdle.

ginny I’m so sorry your brother is so poorly. It is difficult at any time but somehow feels worse with Christmas around the corner.

kitty, I really do feel for you and hope you soon feel better. 💐

Grandmabatty sorry you are in such pain. I loved the photo of your wee man with the Christmas tree. So sweet. His back view looks very like our two boys, they are a similar size and dark haired.🥰

Glad your bathroom is ready Oops. Are you going to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate?!😄

Must stop as I need to go to the supermarket. I have not left the house for a week so am hoping I manage not to keel over.

Thinking of all of you and wishing a good day to all. Please stay safe from the wind.🙏🏻

harrigran Fri 06-Dec-24 08:24:26

Good morning from a dry NE for now.
Up early this morning to put Wheelie bin out it was too windy last night.
Last night was another noisy night of plastic fencing blowing around the street hopefully the workmen will finish filling the holes and replace the paving slabs today.
I am expecting the plumber today for the boiler maintenance good timing as the pressure is down after the workmen had the gas turned off twice for several hours.
I was talking to a neighbour yesterday and she has problems with her boiler now and apparently someone else lost their gas and electricity supply.
Light housework today and finish writing cards then relax not expecting anyone to visit for at least a week.
Stay safe when the weather turns again.

Good morning Mick and everyone from calm, brightish Carlisle.
It rained heavily yesterday evening but it's later today I'm worried about, coming storm Darragh. Years of living on the exposed west Cumbrian coast has not inured me to them. We did once have the conservatory roof whipped off, fortunately in a winter we were home.

Yesterday I ironed then wrote my few Christmas cards, fewer every year for various reasons. Today may see the wrapping of presents which I successfully procrastinated about yesterday!

My shoulder injury is slowly improving but quite suddenly, all my joints and muscles are getting stiff and painful overnight and gradually improve during the day. Last night I was up rubbing in Tiger Balm, the only remedy I can use. It may be back to the surgery next week.

I'm sorry Iris is unhappy at school grandMattie, I do hope someone can get to the bottom of her troubles.

Wishing you all the best of luck with the storm!

GrannySomerset Fri 06-Dec-24 08:33:17

Will take my neighbour with dementia to the oldies’ coffee morning along with the four dozen mince pies made yesterday for tomorrow’s village jolly. Just hoping that the weather doesn’t spoil things - such a lot of hard work is involved and it is usually great fun, but wild weather will not be helpful.

Hope Iris’s school is helpful - so hard living with an unhappy child who won’t let you know the cause.

Liberty Fri 06-Dec-24 08:36:25

Good morning from a quiet dry Suffolk after a very windy and wet late evening. We expect more of that later today.

DH and I are going out this evening to a concert in the church in our nearest market town which is about 6 miles away. Hopefully the weather won’t be too bad for us to turn out.

We were hoping to see DS and his family at some time over the weekend but that may not be sensible for them to do the 40 miles trip to see us. I think the DGC might be happier going to see the latest Paddington film.

I’m meeting a friend for lunch in our second nearest market town. She lives near Norwich and we take it in turns to travel to the other’s choice of venue.

I hope that those with worries and unhappiness in their lives find some comfort today.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 06-Dec-24 08:44:08

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s damp and seems mild enough out although it was very windy in the wee small hours!

We are calling in at the MacMillan coffee group late morning to say hello to everyone for Christmas. We plan not to go then until mid January. I find it unsettles me somewhat. I think it’s because (if I’m being honest) that it pokes me in the ribs that Himself has incurable cancer and when he is doing well (as now) I don’t like to give it headspace. Hey ho. Himself quite enjoys going and has asked me to join him today, so of course I’ve agreed.

Anyway, afterwards a nice treat to ourselves as we’re staying out and going for lunch a deux, as we didn’t go out in the torrential rain for ‘date night’!

Good morning all from a sunny Black country long may it last.
Today is my cousins funeral unfortunately we are unable to attend previous commitment unable to alter.
Late up this morning so have yet to read the 35 posts before this.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans.
Best wishes to all who are struggling ☀️.

Annypop Fri 06-Dec-24 08:51:09

Good morning from County Durham.
We enjoyed the GC singing in their school concert, some traditional and other more modern Christmas carols/songs. GS3 narrated very confidently throughout, and although a Year 6 boy he danced and rocked as much as his sister with no inhibition whatsoever. What a joyous occasion.
Hairdresser did her magic yesterday and DH obliged with a lift afterwards as the rain had started.
My Christmas bunting is complete and ready to hang. I'm pleased I've decided to decorate the last of the living room windows with it.
We've DD2 birthday cake to collect today, also some picky food bits for her celebration here tomorrow. We're expecting 20 guests. It'll be quite a squash and a squeeze.
GC sorted some pics from the albums of her as a youngster, we'll be hanging those up too. According to GD1 her mum has no idea what's happening so it should be a wonderful surprise. She does enjoy a family gathering!
Have the best day you can everyone.

Taichinan Fri 06-Dec-24 09:24:26

Good morning all. The weather you are experiencing 'down south' doesn't sound very pleasant at all. What stormy winters we are having these days! Conversely here on the Angus coast it's another lovely day with blue sky and only the slightest breeze. But there are acres of devastated forest only a few miles away to bear witness to the fact that it is not always this.
I'm so sorry Iris is so unhappy grandmattie. What a lot that poor little girl has to bear. Life can be so unfair, but I hope the school, once alerted, can help.
We had a delicious Christmas lunch yesterday after a 'fun' morning at tai chi yesterday. But oh dear, didn't we have to wait for it! Although as requested we had placed our orders from the menu the previous week we waited a full hour before the first plates came from the kitchen and then another hour before they were cleared away and dessert served. None of us could spare another hour to wait for our coffee and mince pies! The food was beautifully cooked (with perfectly cooked sprouts) but I think the kitchen must have been seriously short-staffed! We will not be back there I'm afraid.
Actually I feel bad complaining about having to wait - weren't we lucky to have a beautiful meal in pleasant surroundings to wait for!
Have the best day you can everyone sheltering from the storm. Keep cosy and warm. And flowers for those in sick bay or in pain x

Good morning from East Lothian where the sky is clear and all is calm at the moment.
We returned late last night after the funeral, near Birkenhead,, of DH’s childhood friend and best man at our wedding. He had asked DH to read some words he had written when he first had his terminal diagnosis last year. DH felt both honoured to be asked but understandably anxious about doing this but he did well and it was a beautiful occasion. Our friend’s ashes were interred in a plot at a natural burial ground overlooking the Mersey.

Our train journeys both ways were marred by delays and cancellations. The journey there on Wednesday, from Glasgow ended at Wigan where we found that all trains to Liverpool were cancelled due to a signalling problem. We were anxiously debating whether to share an Uber to a destination some way north of Liverpool when a young woman came out of the station and asked if anyone wanted to share an Uber to Birkenhead so we were sorted - greatly relieved!

I had a great time chatting with the lovely Glesca Grans before rushing off to catch the train. DH had to come and prise me away 😂. He enjoyed meeting Marydoll, of whom he has heard!

ginny, so sorry to hear your of your brother’s illness 💐

Grandmattie, it must be hard to see Iris so unhappy but great to know she will have speedy access to a school counsellor.

Georgesgran, I was reading yesterday’s posts last night and saw you mentioned your DD’s stroke at 12 years old. I knew you had a daughter who had a disability but didn’t know the history. That must have been devastating at the time. It’s good to hear how well she adapted and is living.

Glad to hear you are doing better, Mick.

I am planning a quiet day but will call round to see DD. The boys will be away all weekend on a course.
Hope all have the best day possible. I love all the Christmas lights that brighten the dark winter days 😊

Marydoll Fri 06-Dec-24 09:42:17

Litterpicker, what a lovely gentleman your DH is. I enjoyed talking to him too. He must have wondered who this mad wee woman was!

karmalady Fri 06-Dec-24 10:20:43

red warnings have just been issued and I know some here are in the red areas, list on GBnews website. Very dangerous weather

Aprilgem Fri 06-Dec-24 10:29:38

Morning all from Bucks. Sunshine here, but chilly. Had a nasty cold and joints problems, so I have to catch up with my laundry and sorting some things, clothes I don't wear to take to my local charity shop.
Have a nice, happy day all. Take care.

Blossoming Fri 06-Dec-24 10:51:29

Good morning from chilly Lancashire. It was wild and stormy last night but seems to have abated, for the time being at least. Stay safe and warm, have a good day 🌹

LauraNorderr Fri 06-Dec-24 11:48:16

Creeping in late to wish you all a very good morning from Cheshire where the sky is pale grey.
I’m so sorry to hear that Iris is unhappy gMattie especially as she has been an inspiration to us all to look for that random pink flamingo even at the worst of times.
Glad you’re feeling better Mick, keep away from Chinese takeaways for now!
For all of us, we can only do our best and keep on keeping on.

Oh dear late to the party.

Nice and sunny but very chilly here in Essex.

Out with our Friday pals for lunch and will see Dd later.

Take care all 🌟

Late good morning here from a dry (for now) Black Country.

Caught an early bus to Merry hell Hill to collect a pair of walking boots I had order online. Then a little wander before arriving home just after 11am.

This afternoon, going to go into Garage and start sorting and tidying, and throwing stuff away.

Wishing you all a good afternoon, and hope all in the affected areas of the coming storm are safe.

Good morning, I’m just back from the Optician and reeling from the bill !! Think of a number and x by 10 !
Saw Dentist this week , and I mean saw him , I wasn’t there 10 min , but the cc took a hammering !
Hearing aids were reviewed and tidied up , thankfully no charge !,
We definitely need a raise in our pensions ! Old age is expensive !

NannyJan53 Fri 06-Dec-24 11:55:47

Gingster my DD is 46 on the 18th Dec, and I too remember the day in great detail.

Happy birthday to your DD flowers

Hello Blossoming! We travelled through Lancashire yesterday evening, starting at Liverpool and changing at Wigan where we had over an hours wait due to train delays. We were glad to get into the shelter of the waiting room when we came off the train at Wigan 🙂. Glad to hear it has abated for now.
