Good morning Mick, an early start to Friday here too!
It’s dry and cold here, thankfully the bitterly cold wind had dropped yesterday for my dog walks.
It would be lovely to have some sunshine though, everything seems so muted and flat in the dull daylight.
Yesterday I finished my granny square, I’m rather pleased with it. The last few rows were 720 stitches!
DH has generously given me his cold, I have a head full of cotton wool and a scratchy throat, buggeration 😡
I will do some needlework today, I might start a new piece of embroidery I think (I already have another in progress).
I hope you all have a lovely day 🌹

grandMattie Fri 13-Dec-24 05:51:04

Good morning from a dark Bristol. The weather has been dry but glum.
Lovely granny square, Roses, love the colours.
I had a fairly productive day yesterday. As tai chi is in the late morning, I finished fiddling with my round robin (yes, I know!) and printed out my cards for the residents. They have been coming in fast - included an invitation to several to join me on NYD for a chat if they were alone.
Free tai chi, which was nice.
In the afternoon, I put the roofs on my mini gingerbread houses, when they are dry, I shall decorate them, ready for distribution.
I also finished my second wise man for my knitted nativity. I shall need a bigger table…
Today, we have the last Spanish class. My lift is not attending today, so I have the two walks. The problem is with the return journey is that it is up a rather steep hill and will take me more than the downhill half hour…
All classes finished until January, freeing me to shop or rest as the fancy takes me.
I hope everyone is facing the weekend sorrow/worry free, and has a gentle day.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from s somerset, dull damp and cool all day

I was at it all day yesterday, outside as usual, sawing wood and travelling to the tip. Heavy bags as the wood is wet, consequentially I kept waking up with aches. One more full load of 4 big bags to take today. Prepped yesterday for bagging.

I need to travel for petrol first thing and be available for a delivery. A busy heavy -lifting day for me today. Plot based, I will be done and dusted by monday.

Have a good day

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 13-Dec-24 06:29:08

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I haven’t peeked outside yet so no idea what the weather is like.

We bought the tree yesterday. It is currently outside in a bucket of water. OH will bring it in and I’ll decorate it. I’ll post a photo tomorrow.

I have a dress to take back to Waitrose click and collect. Also, my daughter had a parcel sent to my address which she no longer wants, so that has to go to Waitrose to. There seems to be a tradition at Christmas that my children who are single, have presents sent to me and then when they arrive for Christmas, use my wrapping paper etc., to wrap everything up!

Have a good day everyone. I think I’ll have a bit more of a snooze.

Bellasnana Fri 13-Dec-24 06:34:12

Good morning from Malta where we have a high of 20°C and a low of 15°C forecast with the chance of some dirty rain.

It is Republic Day here so another Public Holiday. We have a lot of them!

Yesterday was lovely! DD3 picked me up and we went for a coffee before attending the boys’ concert. All the little ones did so well, nobody cried or ran to mum, they were adorable and it was a good thing I was wearing waterproof mascara!

Had a chat with the music teacher as she taught my girls many moons ago. Her piano playing was wonderful and made it a very enjoyable event. There was coffee laid on afterwards and the children made a decoration for the Christmas tree (which involved copious amounts of glitter) whilst we chatted. All very well organised and as each child only has two tickets each, my co-nana and I were very lucky to be able to be there. We were the only two oldies amongst all the parents.😂

Roses I love your crocheted square. So many talented grans on here. Sorry you’ve caught the cold from your DH. I hope it will pass soon.

grandMattie another busy day for you. Please may we have photos of your gingerbread houses when you have a minute.☺️

No plans today. Did my shopping yesterday but will go out for a walk at some point.

Have a good day all.☀️

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I'm on duty at the community store/café this morning. It will be busy. We sell huge, straight-out-the-oven, scones 😋
and handmade gifts.
Then prepare to go to the Highlands for the weekend where I'll be "babysitting" my DGC and their puppy, tomorrow.
I hope to squeeze one more trip to the recycle centre this afternoon. The plasterer is due on Monday to fit a new ceiling.
This is the same ceiling which started to come down back in April!

That's a lovely shawl Roses but sorry you are poorly.

Our yoga class had our end of term coffee party at a local farmshop yesterday. It was very pretty with the frost.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from dark South Lanarkshire.

Lovely blanket Roses.

Yesterday was a good day, hours of chat with stilllearning then yarn group in the evening where we watched our two minute television appearance.

Childminding day today. The afternoon now involves me taking middle child to dance class and DH taking the eldest and the daft dug for a run on the beach.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Ashcombe Fri 13-Dec-24 06:59:40

Good morning from a chilly (likely to be another grey) day in Torbay. No sun for several days this week.

Later this morning I’m having a Zoom call with my best friend from school days who was widowed earlier this year. This call was arranged because she happened to hear a message on R2 (Vernon Kay) put out by the director of The Wind in the Willows last Monday regarding me being indisposed! Naturally she was concerned and curious!

I should have been going out for lunch today with some exercise class friends but I’ve withdrawn as I’m rather a liability currently. Yesterday, I had a telephone consultation with one of the GP's who has changed my pain relief so I hope that will see an end to the drowsiness.

Beautiful photo, Grammaretto with the lifebelt adding a clever flash of colour.

Enjoy all your activities: I like reading about them. 🦩🥰🎄💐🦩

Good morning all from another day of thick dark cloud which has been the case all week. I truly hate this time of year.

Having made little progress to date I’ve caught up this week with Christmas preps. Amazon delivery drivers must be sick to death of seeing our house constantly.

No DGS2 this week as we now have him alternate Mondays. Picked up DGD3 from school and she was delightful as always.

Home made paella for dinner tonight. I’ll make sausage rolls to freeze today too.

Have a good Friday everyone. Always thinking of the poorlies.

Greyduster Fri 13-Dec-24 07:09:43

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. No sign of the sun here again and it looks damp. Yesterday I nearly didn’t go walking because of the heavy damp mist. I changed my mind and could hardly see my hand in front of my face driving over to the woods. There was a good turnout though. I had lunch with DD and GS, and on the way home bought an outdoor wreath for the front door. I do like to have one. I am going into town today on the tram to meet DD for lunch and shopping for last minute presents.
Love the blanket Roses. I am in awe of anyone who can crochet - it’s not a skill I’ve ever mastered!
Have the best day you can folks.

Taichinan Fri 13-Dec-24 07:18:20

Good morning all. I'm very early this morning for a change - woke up at 5.30 and couldn't get back to sleep. I've got a lot to do before going off to meet a friend for a pre-Christmas lunch. It's crazily all go at this time of year isn't it!
What lovely crochet work Roses! And I hope your cold is over quickly. Stay cosy.
Your little ones' concert sounds just perfect Bella. I do miss all mine being small (the youngest is now 18) but I've just received a photo of the next generation meeting Santa for the first time - my great-grandson is now one-year-old.
Yesterday was full-on and 'achieving'. I did feel like a naughty child sneaking off early from tai chi though! But by the time I get home late afternoon, after haircut, lunch with niece and a foray into M&S I was totally exhausted and hadn't even the strength to eat any tea. Same again today and then I shall be glad to take a deep breath on Saturday! I wish that somehow Christmas could be spread out over January and February instead of everything happening all at once.
Anyway, off I go again - oh for some of your stamina grandmattie and karma!
Have a good day everyone 🎶🎁🎄

Good morning from a dark W Kent. Didn’t feel great yesterday so rested a bit and feeling better this morning a lack of sun and light always gets to me.
Looking forward to seeing DGS5 later and catching up with end of term news
Roses lovely blanket and beautiful colours.

Autumncolours Fri 13-Dec-24 07:23:42

Good morning all. Dark and dank in this part of Yorkshire as per at the moment. A blackbird is singing so cheerfully though, giving hope. Roses such neat and beautiful work, grandMattie the gingerbread houses sound lovely. It’s great that the end of prep is in sight for your plot karmalady you’ve put superhuman effort into it. How amazing that your friend heard about you on the radio Ash! It’s lovely when we can connect with old friends. You’ve inspired me to do paella tonight glamma - my vegetarian version - haven't cooked it for ages.

Off to do some present buying today and finally post all the cards. Having another day’s break from decluttering as I felt so much better just shutting the door on it all yesterday. Hope you all have as good a day a you can. Take care.

BlueSapphire Fri 13-Dec-24 07:25:14

Good morning everyone from a still dark Northampton,.drizzle this morning and then a.cloudy day ahead.

Had a nice time at our dance class meet-up yesterday; decided to have lunch at the cafe so chose jacket potato and beans which was enormous; hardly needed anything to eat in the evening as I still felt quite stuffed!

When I got back I managed to get most of my Christmas presents wrapped and have managed to find a hiding place for them out of reach of the cats! Just have my friend's presents to wrap now, and shall do them tomorrow before delivering them on Sunday.

Dance classes this morning,.then home and shall have a restful aftetnoon.
Home-made curry from the freezer for dinner tonight.

Hope all have a pleasant day.

Mizuna Fri 13-Dec-24 07:25:51

Good morning from Cornwall where it's quiet now that the Biffa lorry (ablaze with huge side lights) has emptied the pub's bottle bins across the road. It storms suddenly into the peace like a snorting bull and as quickly is gone.

Well Ash I've joined you, sort of. Have a trapped nerve in my back and can't stand upright or walk properly. I've just ordered some crutches online, delivery tomorrow supposedly - maybe my son will be the delivery man. 😄 Am supposed to be going on a steam train Santa Special on Sunday with my family so hopefully I can get to that with the aid of props.

Am creating a padded throw lined with a disassembled padded coat which has seen better days. Now have to handstitch a pattern on the front to keep everything in place. That will keep me occupied today.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 13-Dec-24 07:34:13

Good morning everyone from south Manchester. Dark still, dry, not frosty nor foggy. We are off to the MacMillan Centre late morning for coffee and biscuits. The half hour walk there does us good too. Himself wants to go, last one until in the NY so, in the words of the late Jimmy Young on Radio 2 “orft we shall jolly well go”. Remember “What’s the recipe today Jim?”. Goodness I’m going back more than 55 years. Hearing that in my parent's kitchen like it was yesterday!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 13-Dec-24 07:35:44

Morning all from a still dark S E Essex.

The pantomime last night was interesting it was called Santa’s Wish, far from tradition but The Imp and 9yr old loved it (it was their first one). We had an early dinner in an Italian near the theatre which was really tasty.

Today I gave the gym first thing, then my gym pals and I ate off for coffee and mince pie/s to a dear friend’s tea shop.

School pick-up as usual and I think it’s going to be the local Indian Restaurant for dinner (I have had a no cook Friday policy since DH and I have been together, only exception being Christmas)

Lovely blanket Roses

I listen to Vernon Kaye Ashcombe I must have missed your shout out wishing you well.

Bye 🤶🏻🎅🏻🧑‍🎄🎄

kittylester Fri 13-Dec-24 07:40:05

Good morning all from a dark and chilly North Leicestershire.

I have to go out this morning to the butcher's and Waitrose. My choir sang at Waitrose last night . We got so many compliments from staff and customers - not bad for a community choir which is open to everyone whether they can sing or not.

Have the best day possible everyone.

brook2704 Fri 13-Dec-24 07:46:16

Good morning everyone from Inverness, it looks slightly milder today without a thick frost on the car
Oh mizuna hope your pain gets better soon and can get out on Sunday, take care
I’m looking forward to meeting DD2 in town sometime today for some last minute shopping and a coffee and chat. Other than that I’ve nothing planned but lots to keep me busy
Love the picture grammaretto thank you, safe journey tomorrow
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Redcar Fri 13-Dec-24 07:48:14

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s getting light, but looks grey again. A drizzly damp day yesterday, so no outdoor walk for me. Didn’t sleep well last night, woke at 3 and finally dozed off at about 6 for another hour. Too many things going round my brain. Couldn’t get up for a warm drink as I’d have woken the dog, then the whole household would have woken up!
DD2 is taking me back to my house to collect post, and we may pay a visit to the local garden centre, not sure how I’ll cope on crutches!
karma I’m exhausted just reading about your busy days at your allotment, but it will be so good when you’ve finished all the groundwork.
grandmattie the gingerbread houses sound great, I think my daughters make and decorate them with their girls, but they weren’t something I did with them. I think they were a bit of a novelty back in the 70s and early 80s?
roses I love your granny square. When I get home I intend to start knitting squares to make a blanket, but whether it gets done remains to be seen, I may learn to crochet instead!
Have the best day possible everyone.

hollysteers Fri 13-Dec-24 07:49:08

Good morning Mick and all from a dark 6°C northwest coast.
A little more Christmas shopping and card posting yesterday. Cleared the mess left by making cards, but expect to make a few more. I’m just printing off copies of my drawing and sticking them on to blank cards, adding liquid glitter.

Today I pop into the art group with cards. They are having their Christmas lunch which I will have to miss as it clashes with the music club party. Nothing happens for days, then two together…

Wishing you all a good day and special thoughts to those with worries 🌺

Jaxjacky Fri 13-Dec-24 07:56:15

Morning, another grey skies day.
Beautiful Roses
Our tree is now up, very cheery when we come downstairs, I must get a wreath and some greenery.
Last stretch class yesterday and my ears cleaned out at last.
My daughter is calling in today, Tesco delivery and pub.

Good morning from a damp, grey Durham. I’m looking forward to a quiet day. I’ve used up all my Xmas cards, so hope I don’t get any unexpected ones, to have to reciprocate! A few things left to wrap and I’m done.
I have a few local cards to drop off, coffee with a friend at her house, then ‘an empty’.
Hope Harri’s sister (?) isn’t badly hurt.

Best wishes to all. X

Grandmabatty Fri 13-Dec-24 08:02:38

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4° and very cloudy. The sky is red from the local refinery chimneys. Very moody. Mizuna I hope your back eases off for Sunday. Bellasnana the concert sounds lovely.
Yesterday I posted all the Christmas cards and got book presents. I picked up some washing from dd because her tumble dryer is broken and went home. There was a Christmas card waiting for me from someone I had left off my list, so a quick trip to my local post office is required. I rested in the afternoon as my hip still is painful at times.
Today dd will pop in with dgs2 after playgroup. He will want soup so a portion is out of the freezer. I then will make a determined effort to sort out the boys' room and the dining room and begin wrapping presents. Have a good day all
