How wonderful to hear a blackbird singing at this time of year Autumn colours! Such a beautiful and uplifting sound.
"Lulu* I'm just like you in the winter months, particularly during January and February which seems to go on forever. So this year I have treated myself to a SAD lamp which I sit beside for an hour every morning. I had no real expectation that it would work, but I actually think it does - I shall reserve true judgement until I've got through January and February! But worth a thought for you.
Oh Mizuna! flowers

Good morning Mick and everyone from a still dark Carlisle where I suspect it is cloudy. We got a few glints of sun yesterday but the clouds had gathered by afternoon.

The robin and a pair of blackbirds now haunt the garden, I put a dish of mealworms and a cut apple out every day after it's light. I don't think poor robin gets much of a look in though as the blackbirds aggressively chase off any other bird that enters their domain. I abandoned hanging feeders as the starlings would clear them in minutes, they're not keen on feeding off the ground amongst the shrubs.

The plumber came and measured up for a new radiator, it's rusting along the bottom seam. My fault for turning it right down, the warm air from the nearby washing machine has condensed on it, at least, I think that's the cause.

Today, not much. I'm still stiff and pained all over and getting a broken night's sleep, it takes an effort of will to turn over in bed. Now I've got a temperature too, not sure if it's related. GP is on Monday. It's a chance to catch up on my back list of books I suppose.

That's a beautiful photo Grammaretto. Ash is right about the lifebelt colour adding to it.

Have the best possible day everyone.

Good morning all. We are out of the minuses in Glasgow, 1deg, dank and possible rain.

My script for Amitriptyline had gone astray and finally tracked down in the wrong pharmacy which DD1 collected for me yesterday. A full night’s pain free sleep at last!

Lovely colours in your blanket Roses. I did one for DD2 a few years ago. Definitely a job for winter with a blanket that size, it kept me cosy as I worked on it.
Greyduster, I tried to teach both DDs /both GDs how to crochet but they all gave up in frustration.
Sorry to hear you too are suffering with nerve pain Mizuna. I hope you find relief soon.

Best wishes to all for a good day especially for those with struggles, worries and health issues.

Good morning everyone.
Had a great afternoon yesterday at the Sewing group party. Lots of fun and laughter , if anyone heard us I doubt they would guess the age of the participants. I am the youngest at 70.
I also added a few decorations to the house. ( pictures) The snowman is in the bathroom, mad wit loo rolls.

Lovely Granny square Roses

I had a bad night though, I think due to some new medication so will need to get that sorted. Won’t be going far today. I hope to finish off a small wall hanging and make a few small sewn gifts for friends.
DD3 will be popping in to finalise a couple of Christmas arrangements..

Thinking of those who are feeling under at and wishing a good day for all.

Stilllearning Fri 13-Dec-24 08:19:35

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, ‘finish and post the cards day’ here.
Beautiful blanket Roses and Lilac, I really like the calm look of it.

Lovely long catch up with baubles yesterday. I got a message last night from Connel DD saying she and my son in law were down in Glasgow Christmas shopping and had tried to get in to the lovely cafe where we were but couldn’t get a table or attract our attention. I told her thank goodness it wasn’t the week for my toy boy🤓!

I’m sorry for the additional upset of your mum’s things going missing or being mixed up Susan. It’s one more indignity, I remember it well from my DH’s stay in care. The thing is it doesn’t affect them, it’s just one more thing for you to bear. If she’s being well looked after, try to put it out of your mind.
In fact my DH was often the guilty party, which I struggled with a bit.

Off to wrap small gifts from 12 year old DGD to her mum, This is the first year that she has independently bought gifts and she has entrusted me with hiding them until next week then smuggling them in. I do feel honoured😊

Have a good day, especially everyone with extra health problems just now, thinking about you all.

Good morning all from the Black country I think its dry haven't looked outside yet.
Roses lovely blanket such delicate colours it must be over 30yrs since I last crocheted.
Mizuna loved your description of the Biffa lorry.
Trip into town I have a bill to pay should be the last one now until next year.
Have a good day all whatever your plans ☀️.

RosesandLilac That is an exquisite piece of needlework!

Good morning from a dry and still Suffolk and no rain in sight. I had a delicious lunch yesterday with 3 friends, the pleasure enhanced as always by lots of laughs and interesting chats.

On the way to meet them,I took the holly wreath to my in-laws grave and chatted to the mother of the young man,who died 25 years ago and whose grave is close by. She was tidying up around his grave with her shears and offered to do the same around ours …..so kind.

Today I’ve got to drop into the post office with 2 enormous parcels and I’m hoping any queue,if there is one,is short. Afterwards I’m meeting another friend for coffee which will,as it always does, run into lunch.

Thinking of those with worries or ill health to contend with.

Kalu Fri 13-Dec-24 08:28:18

I have just caught up with yesterday’s thread. Thank you all for your thoughtful messages they are very much appreciated and go a long way to lift my spirits. 💐

Gingster Fri 13-Dec-24 08:31:10

Good morning all.
Sorry to hear you’re ’laid up’ Mizuna. I hope it sorts itself out quickly, and you too Ash. 💐💐.

IVe already had an early phone call from DD . MY heart always misses a beat ! She’d left something here and will be picking it up after school drop off.

Today Dh is going into town to do ‘some shopping’ . Unusual for him, so probably hunting for a gift for me. 😂. I wonder what delights await me! 🤔 🤣😂.

We’re off to meet our Friday friends for lunchtime drinks and chat and will watch the last episode of Jackal late afternoon. It’s been such a brilliant series.

Dd and little DGD will go to Hyde Hall this evening to see the lights at Glow. DS1 and family went last week and said it was the best ever.

Beautiful photo Gramarretto. Yes I agree the life belt adds a pop of colour to the icy scene. Very professional ! 👌.

Take care all 🌟

Marydoll Fri 13-Dec-24 08:35:14

Good morning all from Glasgow, where it is 2°C better than the -3°C and freezing fog, we have had for the last three days.

Baubles, I watched your programme, it was lovely!
I could knit complicated patterns, but have never been able to master crochet.
You grans are so talented!

I have a rheumatology appointment, then the supermarket. That should be fun. I have asked Mr MD to accompany me, I couldn't manage on my own today.
My maximum dose of pain medication isn't hitting the spot and I am hoping for some suggestions.
One of my auto immune conditions has resulted in a mouth full of ulcers for months, it is a great way to lose weight! No need for Weight watchers. I wonder if the consultant will have any suggestions.

We have the school run again today. DH had to do it on his own yesterday, the cold air was badly affecting my breathing. Hopefully, I will make it today, I enjoy the social aspect of chatting in the playground and people watching.

Finally, thank you for all the suggestions, regarding chocolate gingers. Used tobeblonde, DD ordered them from Amazon for me, otherwise DH would have seen the order. Our accounts are linked.

Enjoy your day folks, hugs for allwho are struggling.

Jaxjacky Fri 13-Dec-24 08:36:56

I forgot to mention, we watched a lovely animation last night on Netflix, That Christmas, went well with the tree!

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 13-Dec-24 09:04:04

Good morning it’s very wet today, but no wind.

So sorry that there are so many poorly Grans, I do hope that today brings some relief from the pain and that you all start to feel better soon.

Lovely bed cover Roses I wish I could crochet, but I never got the hang of it, Mum knitted and crochets and I sewed.

I got my days muddled up yesterday so the shopping is due today.
Not much else happening , MrOops is out, Christmas tree is up (with MrOops ‘helping’) but I’ll sort it out before he comes home this afternoon.
Ironing to do after breakfast.
I had a missed call from the Consultants secretary yesterday afternoon, but she didn’t pick up when I called her back, I assume the results from the MRI are back. But she doesn’t work on Fridays so I’ll have to wait until Monday to find out.

Our GD was 21 yesterday, we gave her money as she is up in London for a couple of days. It seems only recently that I was there when she was born in Kings hospital in London, 6 weeks early, nothing ready for her and a 2 week stay in hospital as she had/has a heart problem. GS was 4 weeks early, unlike their Mum who was 3 weeks late.

Have a good day everyone, hugs to those who are stressed, sad or unwell.

GrannySomerset Fri 13-Dec-24 09:07:59

Dismal morning in sympathy with my neighbourhood as it is my lovely next door neighbour’s funeral at mid-day. I am reading so must not forget my glasses, and be prepared to do him justice. It will be a difficult day for the family but I suspect that his wife is protected by her dementia from feeling much; she is likely to say some very inappropriate things and be most concerned about what she is wearing.

Susan56 Fri 13-Dec-24 09:23:46

Good morning from Shropshire.Light rain at the moment.

Yesterdays communion service with mum went well. She was reluctant to go but once the service started her face lit up, she remembered all the responses and carols. The minister was lovely with her.DH was roped in on wheelchair pushing. It took half an hour to get all the residents back to the care home.
Stilllearning thank you.I think mum is a guilty party too in the redistribution of clothing which I find hard like you did.Thankfully I found the wedding photo.

On the way home we went for a meal then collected the children from school.Once again the Santa experience was cancelled due to weather so we will take H on the Santa train next week instead.

Today I am going out for lunch with a friend which I am looking forward to.

Marydoll I hope you get some help at your appointment.I usually go with low expectations and then it is a bonus if anything good comes out of the appointment.I hope you feel improvement soon.x

Thoughts with absent friends and those in sick bay.Ekwa I hope a couple of days rest sees you feeling better.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

Good morning from dull grey Lancashire. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend 🌹

GrannyGravy13 Fri 13-Dec-24 09:31:06

I forgot today is DS 4’s 39th birthday, he was born on Friday 13th 🙀

He is a dear boy, with a gentle soul and wicked sense of humour. 🩵

harrigran Fri 13-Dec-24 09:42:07

Good morning from the NE where it looks grey and miserable.
Yesterday was a day of doing nothing. Stomach pain and nausea all day so spent all afternoon lying on the bed close to the bathroom.
I am going out for lunch with my friend today, hope I will manage it, last time I will see her this year.
Have a good day.

Good Morning from a brighter Co Armagh
Hair cut later , hope I make it , I’m on meds for a UTI , which is making me feel nauseous
I keep putting off writing cards , but I’d better get them in the post . I bought some from a charity shop , think it was Osfam and one set is in Gaelic, I’m sending them to the Edinburgh crew who go to a Scottish Gallic (sp ?) school , just for fun 🤩
Thinking of the poorly

Litterpicker Fri 13-Dec-24 11:55:26

Good morning from East Lothian. I read the earlier posts in bed then fell asleep again! It’s grey here but not raining. We went with the family to DGS’s school concert where he was playing his guitar in a jazz group and a guitar ensemble, both new ventures for him this year as his band broke up, as teenage bands tend to do. He was very pessimistic beforehand about the guitar group’s performance but they did well. I do love seeing (and hearing) young people singing and playing instruments - it gives me hope.

Hope your uti clears up * Aggie* - it’s horrible when the antibiotics make you nauseous.
Harrigran, I hope you feel well enough for your lunch with your friend - sounds like a horrible day for you yesterday.
Susan, so good that that your Mum relaxed in the familiarity of the communion service

Baubles, the knitting ninjas got a mention on the radio Scotland phone-in which was suggestions for person or group of the year 👏

Marydoll, hope you get through your appointment and supermarket shopping and have a relaxing afternoon to recover.
Oops, sorry you have to wait until Monday for your MRI result.

I must go and do something with Christmas cards - I will enjoy it once I get going 🫤

GrannyIvy Fri 13-Dec-24 15:02:37

A late text been one of those days! Just waiting for the little ones to come out of school now so been reading through everyone’s messages.

So sad to hear so many Good Morning Grans are poorly.

Sending a big hug to all 💐
