😮 ghastly 🎄 supermarket party food.

There must be a demand for it, I guess - no-one's being forced to buy it.

Although I wouldn’t buy most of it, I don’t really have an issue with it being available for those who want to buy it.

It’s all yuk.

I make my own canapés as they are so expensive, here’s some ideas if anyone is stuck.

Make and freeze mini Yorkshire puds fill when warm/reheated fill with a dollop of mushy peas and a mini chipolata.
Fried Halloumi with a chunk of melon or a seedless grape on a cocktail stick.
Homemade Parmesan biscuits with a dollop of homemade pesto and baby tomato slice.
Smoked trout on a blini or brown bread ( salmon is now too heavily farmed).
Little croustades filled with haggis/vegetarian haggis and topped with scrambled egg.
Homemade soup served in little espresso cups.
Homemade hummus with pitta bread cut into strips and fried in a little olive oil.
Good old fashioned devils on horseback always go down well.
With the left over pastry from the mince pies I make mini quiches.

Christmas pud and cheese to finish.

I think is the adverts - tv, magazines at this time of year! … slightly nauseous from the cavalcade of processed festive snacks. Additives overload, nothing like yummy emulsifiers and diglycerides of fatty acids to make up that perfect Christmas meal. Its absolutely being pushed by the food conglomerates and most people are drawn in by it

Some of the 'picky bits' are actually really nice! Like you, we don't eat them very often, but at this time of year, we are entitled to indulge in a guilty pleasure or too. These threads (and the gravy ones) always bring out the food snobs.

The relentless pressure from advertising encourages people to make daft food choices especially at this time of the year. I wonder how much of this excess is put in the bin?

According to a food waste advert I heard on the radio, 50% in Greater Manchester.

I’m sure my city isn’t alone on this!

I'm not keen, but occasionally pick out a few items like the various prawn offerings.
This year I've got my eyes on Crab & Brown Butter Mini Crumpets from Waitrose.

Those crumpets sound good escaped have a few for me too.

I'm with you as well BlueBelle Baileys and mince pies my favourite.

Not something I would buy anyway.Traditional Christmas fare is sufficient for me.

Wouldn’t buy the mini pork belly, quiche, Yorkshire puddings or burger type canopies.

I have got M & S single Coquelles St Jacques, prawn toasts, Brie and cranberry bites, and chicken satay canopies for Boxing Day.

They resemble octopus without legs.

Think it’s classed as ‘party food’, but not sure if sweet or savoury.

Either way, I don’t fancy them.

I wait all year for the frozen prawn party ring with the lurid pink dipping sauce!

Oh I like a bit of processed yuk and junk food over Xmas. Am presently baking up a storm for family next week and then towards the end of the week will start cooking up meals to put in the fridge. And of course will be a home cooked roast dinner Xmas day. So will look forward to something processed to slam on the buffet table along side the good stuff table for rellies coming aft Boxing Day.
I need a rest.

I’ve just fried some slices of halloumi in olive oil 2 minutes each side and eaten them with a pink lady apple cut into wedges Babs03 for my lunch! Delicious.

I looked in Aldi this morning for a packed of mixed items,
“ picky bits” seems to be the in phrase, but I could only find packs of all the same stuff, which would be too much, without the variety. I might try M&S food on Thursday.
