I just tested positive - what a bummer, right on Christmas. Aarrgghh. Buggerbuggerbuggerbugger. Thought I was feeling a bit tired and a sore throat, almost wish I hadn’t tested now.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 22-Dec-24 09:36:45

Oh poor you, nanna8- rubbish timing. Get well soon.

Aveline Sun 22-Dec-24 09:47:23

Oh dear. As long as it only feels like a sore throat and tiredness that's not too bad. I had that when I apparently had COVID and it only felt like a slight cold and only lasted a few days. Fingers crossed for you!

BlueBelle Sun 22-Dec-24 09:52:22

No one here is testing any more and anyway I think it’s changed as last time I m absolutely sure I had it I d given a Downs lad a hug the day before he went down with it and then felt exactly the same as when I last had it but tested negative my boss sure as eggs is eggs had it, very poorly but tested negative
Some families are testing negative and positive when all ill with the same symptoms
I won’t test again

Hope you feel loads better by Tuesday Nana8

Get well soon, nanna8 Such a bummer at Christmas.

We’ve been hit by the respiratory infection that’s going around. I was supposed to be hosting a pre Christmas lunch today but three family members have gone down with it so we’ve all been frantically messaging each other from early this morning trying to make the right decision.

I’ve called it off so I now have to find room in the freezer for a joint of pork and other goodies.

I am so lucky our friends always do a covid test still before they come to visit as I am 'at risk'. When out we still wear our masks if we feel particularly vulnerable. I am frustrated at the unkind comments we get and people laughing because of masks. I wish people would think before commenting as no one knows if they have a serious illness etc necessitating them to still having to keep protected.

nanna8 Sun 22-Dec-24 10:22:28

Thanks you lot- cheered me up! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Going to be a lovely day on Christmas Day, too, was planning having a dip in daughter’s pool. Still, might have put them off their dinners with the look of me in a swimsuit!

What a rotten shame for you.
Sending kindest thoughts and lots of positive healing vibes flowers

Calendargirl Sun 22-Dec-24 12:45:48

Are you still having Covid booster jabs in Oz nanna?

I agree Tiley. I am severely immunocompromised and must test if I suspect I have Covid. I need to do so to obtain antivirals, which in my case, must be done in hospital.

"No one here is testing any more and anyway I think it’s changed........." Bluebell, can I ask where 'here' is please?

Oldbat1 Sun 22-Dec-24 12:59:53

Not good catching covid at any time. As yet we havent had covid which is good as dh on chemo but so many folk ill. Baby in our street has seemingly just spent 3 nights in hospital. Hope folk keep well.

Jaxjacky Sun 22-Dec-24 13:01:27

Oh nanna8 what lousy timing, I hope you don’t feel too bad and can still enjoy your Christmas.
Our granddaughter has a revolting cold, she tested before staying her on Friday.

nanna8 Sun 22-Dec-24 22:51:01

I’ve had 6 jabs but the last one was a year ago so I was overdue. The last time I had the antivirals they made me quite sick and upset my stomach so I am risking not having them. So far I just feel like I have a nasty cold and headache. This is my third dose of it. Ah well, them’s the breaks, as they say.

Catterygirl Sun 22-Dec-24 23:16:52

Husband is a chauffeur and had to be replaced due to the worst cold / cough I’ve ever seen. It’s so bad, almost called 111.

cc Mon 23-Dec-24 13:01:13

It's so easy to catch Covid, I reckon I was a just couple of weeks overdue for a vaccination when I caught it last year. I'd tried to have the vaccination earlier but was told that I'd have to wait until they contacted me.
My husband is vulnerable and has have every vaccinations that he's been offered, but even then he's caught it once. He did not test as we have no tests left, but isolated ourselves and he excaped the worst.

cc Mon 23-Dec-24 13:02:14

Hope you feel better soon nanna8.

Milliedog Mon 23-Dec-24 13:26:13

I can't have the vaccination. The two last vaccinations affected my heart - sitting on the sofa, my heart rate would be 60 one minute and 98 the next. Dr said it wouldn't be irresponsible to skip the vaccination...

Whiff Mon 23-Dec-24 13:29:45

Hopefully you will test negative Christmas day 🤞🤞🤞🤞

keepingquiet Mon 23-Dec-24 13:29:56

Why are people still testing? You don't need to.

jocork Mon 23-Dec-24 13:58:02

I thought I just had a cough and cold but last night started to feel worse so took a test and am definitely posotive - not a pale line you can barely see like last time! I was supposed to drive to Yorkshire today for Christmas with DS and his family. DD is flying in on Christmas morning from Dubai and I was supposed to take her some warm clothes and other stuff she doesn't have out there so she may be a bit chilly. Also Her presents to the GC are here in my house along with my presents for everyone. Her present to me has been delivered to Yorkshire! Hopefully we'll sort out the logistics later and everything will reach the intended recipients eventually. I had to do a quick shop wearing a good quality mask as I had nothing left in the fridge and will now spend Christmas alone!
I'm just grateful for video calls and the fact that they had planned to visit on the 29th on the way to see other relatives in the South for New Year. Meanwhile I will eat what I fancy, watch whatever I want on TV and trust I'm better by the time they come. DD has extended her leave so she'll still have some time with me and I have plans to visit her in Dubai with DiL and the GC in February half term so all is not lost.

Sooo disappointing though! Get well soon any one else who is suffering!

Why are people still testing? You don't need to.

Maybe because they don’t want to infect vulnerable friends and relatives? Certainly, we don’t need to, but it is a courtesy to others with a lesser functioning immune system.

Oldbat1 Mon 23-Dec-24 15:14:34

Very well said NanTheWiser in response to keepingquiet. I would be very anxious not to knowingly pass on anything. Dh is immunocompromised.

keepingquiet Mon 23-Dec-24 15:51:48

We pass on all sorts of virus' all the time- coughs and colds, sore throats, tummy bugs, norovirus and flu. We don't, and won't ever, live in a sterile world.

It is impossible to avoid them at this time of year.

Most vulnerable people (including myself) are fully vaccinated against Covid now, but not so many other bugs that can cause serious illness in the compromised.

Namsnanny Mon 23-Dec-24 16:15:11

Anyone taking or considering taking high dose Vit D + K2?
