What was your favourite present this year? I got a fantastic new watch from my sons that connects to my phone and does all sorts of interesting things. My husband a rather beautiful thermos cup that stops me needing constant trips to the kettle. I tend to forget to drink a tea while it is hot. Wonderful really.

I have no family or fr iends left who give presents, and I have not yet decided whether the warm gloves I received from myself, or the new bath-brush that me gave myself is my favourite!

Luminance Fri 27-Dec-24 21:15:30

Oh AuntieE you know yourself ever so well to give and receive those gifts! I have gifted myself some new things in the sales too.

My GD didn’t buy me a present but has booked the two of us a stay in a Lake District hotel in April.
I can’t get about well now and my H and I just loved the Lake District as our favourite place and I miss it so much.
Definitely my favourite present.

This is Jaffa. I saw him in JL when we were shopping for the dgc before Christmas. I fell in love and DH bought him for me. No flipping idea where he will live but I absolutely adore him.

Luminance Fri 27-Dec-24 22:39:35

Oh how I am in love with Jaffa too!

Allira Fri 27-Dec-24 22:39:55

What does he eat, kittylester?

Allira Fri 27-Dec-24 22:41:26

Oh, just googled - acacia leaves and twigs. Hope you have a good supply nearby 🙂
He's lovely.

Grammaretto Fri 27-Dec-24 22:50:51

Wow kitty how is Jaffa settling in?
My best present was new walking poles which I have already used. My DC clubbed together and they are what I asked for.

I gave DSiL a bay tree which he seemed very pleased with. He loves
cooking. I hope it will survive Scottish winters.

DD on the other hand said she already had what I bought her so left it behind. 😒

Jaffa is fabulous kitty

My Grandson bought tickets for the Chelsea Flower show for the two of us in May.

Our daughter bought us tickets for Calamity Jane at The Birmingham Hippodrome.

I got a beautiful calendar with photos of places of beauty in Lancashire, gorgeous hills, not like the flat terrain in my Essex home. A good friend took the photos, and the crowning glory was my old stamping ground - Pendle Hill.
Much missed.

My first folding walking stick😂- when I went with them to the Pantomime, my d.i.l. noticed that I was struggling. Well wouldn’t you - the car park was more than a mile from the theatre. But bless her, she said you don’t have to use it for Tesco or any place like that. But if we’re doing a trip somewhere, you can use it. Very thoughtful, But I really have no intention of doing any such trip, until I have a knee replacement. But it still remains my favourite present, because the thought that went into it.

A new mug from DD with the words Derriere toute fille epanouie une maman extraordinaire.

DD and family gave us a luxury hamper. It was full of all sorts of delicious things that we'd never buy ourselves so is quite a considerable treat for us.

Love him! My giraffe (Jimbo) would like to say hello to yours! He lives under what we call the Hippo Tree (because when there’s no Christmas tree there are 2 big wooden hippos under it).

Please NB a tartan ribbon round his neck for Christmas, added only after a dd said it wasn’t fair that the hippos had Santa hats and poor old giraffe had nothing.

My daughter got me a digital photo frame. There is an app to use and other people can upload photos and videos onto it immediately. They can label each photo and you can see who has added them. It's brilliant and family in Portugal and other parts of the UK added photos on Christmas day, so we had a great time watching them appear. It holds up to 40,000, photos, so it will be a lot time before it gets filled! I think it's a fantastic way to keep in touch with people.

Our DD gave us a hamper too Aveline. Little luxuries we wouldn't normally buy - different cheeses, crackers, pickles, chutneys, wine and gin. A lovely gift.

My family bought me tickets to Andre Rieu concert in Glasgow in April. DH will be going with me. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it.

An iPad. DH and AC clubbed together. They also gave other bits and pieces which were much appreciated. DD has a giraffe called Geraldine but she just dosses about most of the time - she’s a draught excluder!

kittylester Sat 28-Dec-24 10:48:00

Actually, we are not sure what gender our giraffe is - maybe gender neutral.
