We have done a lot of celebrating on New Year's Eve over the years but now we prefer to have a quiet evening in. We will enjoy a lovely meal and some nice wine and be in bed before Midnight. How about you do you still like to celebrate or is that now a thing of the past?

We always used to go out partying! No more.

I’ll cook a nice meal and there’ll be fizz. I’ll stay up until midnight but OH will be in bed. The cats will be allowed to sleep on my bed as a treat. They’re terrified of fireworks.

On New Year’s Day we always go out for lunch and it’s already booked.

For years we spent New Years Eve dining with a couple of special friends, at our alternate houses, but with the death of one half of the couple, it became too sad for any of us to bring in the New Year and we stopped doing anything special then. I am lucky if I can stay up that late these days, even if I wanted to!

Hogmanay was a bigger celebration for some adult Scots than Christmas. Mum and dad always had a party to welcome in the new year and we were allowed to stay up. When I was married, we would first foot neighbours and stay up for hours.
Now, I'll be in bed and asleep probably. I have no-one to welcome the new year in with. That suits me. I'm having family round for dinner on New Year's Day

We’ve always stay in and enjoy our picky party food and a few glasses of wine. Usually in bed before the new year. It’s our way don’t know any different. We’re more Christmas fanatics.

Same here!

I just found out we've won a quick mini cruise in a couple of weeks, so I'll save the partying 'til then.

Best wishes to you and your DW, grumppa.

We go to a matinee musical at our local theatre and then have a nice meal. This year we are having a takeaway from the lovely Indian restaurant at the top of our road.

It will be a normal night for me.

Bed at 10, might hear fireworks going off at midnight.

NYE was never made anything of when growing up, and so it has carried on,

This is me as well.

We stay up and have a nice meal, but no party 🎄

I have never been a fan of New Years Eve. Like others I enjoy a nice meal and a drink at midnight but other than that can’t be bothered. Hope next year will be a better one than this year.

We will be like you Judy54!
Conga lines in our cul-de-sac with friends and neighbours with fireworks are long behind us. 😁

I don't think you'll get in to the at home non-party, FriedGreenTomatoes2
Your tickets are out of date.

Have a drink anyway! 🥂🍾

My last celebration was Hogmanay in Scotland. smile
That was a good few years ago, and I think I'm still recovering.

We always celebrate New Year, must be our Scottish heritage.
Many good memories, mostly with long standing good friends. We’re all going to a local restaurant this year for a gourmet tasting menu. After the chimes it will be back home to see the last bit of Jools and Hootenanny.

We are celebrating New Year in Madeira my DH and I. The fireworks are spectacular and some of the best in the world.

Last NYE we were on our own at home and enjoying a lovely dinner and Champagne and wine. We watched Rick Astley bring in the new year on tv and in our drunken haze booked to go and see him in concert in the summer which we did enjoy. 🎉🥂

MissAdventure Sat 28-Dec-24 17:53:52

That sounds marvellous! smile
I'd enjoy those fireworks.

Lucky you, enjoy the spectacular. We love Madeira, but hadn’t thought about going for New Year. Good idea!

Haha. I too, would try to party if the opportunity arose but I am definitely not a party animal so best to stay in.

We haven’t gone out or entertained for ages. We’ll usually stay up to hear Big Ben with a glass of fizz and watch the fireworks (always assuming I haven’t fallen asleep on the sofa) but then it’s bed.

We always had a party in our cul de sac at Hogmany. We had all been friends before we moved here and our children were at school together.
A party in one house for teenagers and one in another for adults. The teenagers had to leave the blinds open, so that we could keep an eye on them.
Just before midnight, they would join the adults.
We never had to worry about disturbing the neighbours.
Now all I want to do is be in bed at midnight!

pably15 Sat 28-Dec-24 19:00:47

when I was younger, we always stayed up half the night first footing , now we still bring in the new year at midnight with a couple of drinks then off to bed. this year my daughter, sil and gd are with us,

Always stay in, and always have a malt whisky at midnight to see the old year out, as my grandmother used to say. Drinking alone this year, as DW is in hospital.

Hope it’s a one off grumpaa and next NYE you’re both raising a glass together.
BW.

I'll be in hospital after my hip replacement this time. I'll let you know what that's like

All the best Grammaretto. Hope all goes well for you.
This time next year you may be downsized, in your new place, new joint happily in place kicking the light fantastic!

I'm not sure FGT. It's the inaugural guinea pig test sailing of a commercial vessel with real passengers, and you know what sometimes happens! If you never hear from me again on here, you'll know why. 🛳
