Good Morning Sunday 29th December 2024

Good morning from Bristol. It’s still misty but not too bad as my neighbour’s daughter and family flew from the local airport to Switzerland yesterday afternoon.
I went off to church to serve coffee wondering if it would be£ be open. The vicar had suggested that no one would unlock it. He was wrong, it was open, but I didn’t think anyone would come. They did, in dribs and drabs, and stayed on past “closing time”! One good job done.
After lunch, I had been invited to tea at a church friend’s house. It was a 20 minute walk away, rather pleasant. Several other church people were there.
Once home, I had been asked by my neighbour if I wanted some vegetables as her daughter had emptied the fridge before going away. For a week! Everything would have kept. To my amusement, she had lined everything up and shared it all equally!
Today, I only have church.
I hope the poorlies are feeling a bit better, especially MD and family. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning, we’ve escaped the fog so far, let’s hope it stays away today too.

Just a small tip run to do this morning, I did all of the ironing yesterday, so a quiet day today, I’ll probably get one of my Christmas present books out or start a new jigsaw. Pie and mash for lunch, back to ‘normal’ food today.

So sad to read Ginnys news yesterday 💐 when I caught up with everyone’s posts - hope those with lurgies are on the mend x.

A trot to the next town for a newspaper shortly, lovely mindless me time, nosing into other folks gardens, living rooms, checking out their posh cars etc and simply enjoying the view across to Anglesey - the roads are a lot quieter at the moment as Holyhead port is closed after storm damage. It’s an ill wind…eh😉

DD3 and I thoroughly enjoyed the Glenn Miller concert yesterday evening. It was a treat to be out together and the music was wonderful. Kalu I thought of you when they played ‘In the Mood’.

Mass this morning followed by the weekly chat with my pal in Leicester. Gosh, how quickly Sunday comes around!

Good morning from s somerset, gloomy until noon and then the sun will appear at last

The fog/mist here has been horrible, all the surfaces outside have remained wet the whole time and the leaf mould has that gassy scent which affects some with allergies. Sudden overnight frost will cause skating rinks to form underfoot

I really don`t know what I will be doing today, apart from knitting, reading and cleaning the fire

Good morning Mick and everyone
It is very dark and still here. No wind but cant even see the outline of the tree. Very weary this morning, did the round trip of about 140 miles yesterday. The fog/mist was bad all day, and it must have been idiots day out, as a dark car loomed up without any lights on at all, and a pedestrian in dark clothes with no torch or hi viz jacket was walking on a road with no pavement with his back to me!! Was doing quite well given the weather, but got to Hawes, where there is a short bit as you enter the town, which is single lane with cobbles and then it narrows near the church before opening into the market place. A car had managed to breakdown for whatever reason there. Traffic was queueing behind me, nowhere to turn or find another way, and the recovery truck had had to find a way I think via Gayle to the market end, then back up into this narrow area and was winching the car with difficulty onto his trailer! Never had that happen before in over 40 years of driving through there. Carried on down to Ingleton, in swirling mist, missing several sheep, who seemed keen on committing suicide with their white coats making them invisible. Anyway finally got to KL and was happy to see the family, give belated presents, and catch up with family news. Set off back the same journey in reverse. One area the mist lifted for a short while but then really foggy and was down to about 20mpg so picked up a chinese and was thankful to get home. To weary to empty car, so sat and ate my meal, and had radio 3 on , and that was it. So today it is going to be a very quiet day. Dont plan to go out at all. Will have leisurely breakfast, then empty stuff from the car, put it all away, and then it is usual round of very ordinary housework, followed by getting the ironing board out and making sure I have something decent ironed for tomorrow, as will be out in the morning. I love the radio on sunday mornings, so have radio 3 and 4 on and will have desert island discs and private passions etc., to lift the spirits. I have some cold lamb to enjoy , so it will be jacket potato , a little salad and pickles, so easy to prepare and hopefully by this evening, the flat will look a little tidier, I will have discovered where or where has the shoe polish gone to , and recovered enough to face whatever this week brings. Hope everyone has a positive day and manages to do something enjoyable . From a still dark morning here in North Yorkshire.

Good morning from Cornwall where it's quiet and still and dry. A personal goal achieved yesterday when I walked the length of Perranporth beach. The cliffs were shrouded in mist, wonderful. Pic attached. A lone horse rider galloped across the sands. It was magical. On the way home I walked through the University grounds, where I was once at school as a young child. The trees and acres of greenery I remember fondly have been retained.

Today I may venture to Newquay to walk one of the vast beaches there and have breakfast in Wetherspoons. I was given a very generous W'spoons voucher for Christmas, yippee. 😁

karma I was reading an article on allotments yesterday and the exertion and effort required reminded me of you. It was affectionately described as ‘green gym’ which I thought rather apt.

Marydoll I hope you’ve swerved norovirus. It’s highly transmissible by the ‘cute carriers’. We both had it during one winter when the Boy Wonder was a baby. We took him overnight when his parents were so poorly they were tag team trying to look after him it was awful and when we gave him back we both started with it!

Another nice day ahead for us as early afternoon we’re picking my stepfather up and driving up to Oldham to spend a couple of hours with him (he’s the one who at 87y still calls children by the colloquial name of ‘nippers’ which I love to hear. Such an old fashioned word. It won’t survive past his generation I think). Then we intend to drive back to here and the 3 of us enjoy a curry for an early Sunday dinner - his request ‘I’ve not been for a curry in ages’. 😊

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where we appear to have seen the last of the fog. It lifted too late for me to get a walk in yesterday but I shall try and do something outside today. DS is coming down for an early football match and will call in to eat with me on his way home. So, meat and potato pie - his favourite.

Good morning from the NE where it is dark and damp.
Lazy day yesterday watching films on Netflix.
I was angry to see someone has parked an Iceland van over my gates and in front of the garage door, been there all night. A residential street is not the place for commercial vehicles of this size.
Had a message from my sister to say that she is to remain in hospital until at least the 16th of January. Yesterday she was having another blood transfusion, the blood loss was a lot because she is on anticoagulants.
Another quiet day with no visitors.
GD going back to university.

A normal day yesterday, dog walk, housework, laundry, cooking a meal etc. Ironing to do this morning after the dog walk, a Waitrose shop arriving at 8am to put away first.

Good morning from a clear W Kent. Out today to DFs we haven’t up between Christmas and New Year for around fifty years. She is a good cake maker and we shall enjoy catching up. Heard that a friend from my art group has been admitted to hospital with a dislocated replacement hip, seems she just wanted to put some socks on.

Good morning all and it’s an early start for me.

We’re off to our seaside cottage and will leave before the traffic gets too heavy. We haven’t been there for a couple of months so I’m anxious to see how everything is.

Yesterday was a nice day out with Dd and little DGD. The film Musafa was technically excellent but lacked in story content.
We had a Maccy D (first for years) and caught the train home.

I’m glad to live near a train and bus station as I think I’ll be using them more as the traffic around here is dire and driving and parking isn’t enjoyable .

FGT my ds2 calls the youngsters ‘nippers’ and he’s only 49. 😂.

Church this morning at the smallest church in the Benefice. Not sure about lunch. OH wants pie and mash. I think we’ve got salmon in the freezer. I’d rather have that.

Good morning all, as Dixon of dock green would say, I’ve had 2 pit stops throughout the night and it feels very cold, I hear the wind blowing a hoolie out there on the east coast of Fife. I overslept again but am I boferrered ? I’ve a busy day today, I need to order some staples for my guests who are arriving tomorrow. And I need to see to the bedding for them because it’s all packed away under my storage bed. 1 mattress topper 1 flat sheet, the new duvet and the duvet cover, 4 pillows and 4 crispy pillowcases. I’m preparing for a shin dig tomorrow night.

That’s a lovely picture mizuna I remember walking along Perranporth beach, a few years back walked the south west coast path and have some very happy memories of time spent in that area.
We’ve got DD2 and both DGC here, they stayed over last night, everyone is still asleep except us so I’m still in bed with my tea too. I’m hoping to coax the DGC outside for some fresh air this morning, it’s not easy these days as they’ve both outgrown the idea of going for a walk 🤣

Enjoyed beginning the photo cull yesterday, I may feel differently by the time I reach the end, Mr C estimates some point in 2026. Huh!

If it brightens we’ll be out for a walk today, otherwise back to the photos. Lasagne for dinner, fruit for dessert, looking forward to both.

Been thinking about marydoll and hoping norovirus has avoided her. Thoughts also go to all with health and other worries.

Not much happening weather wise here in Oxfordshire
I am another one enjoying a cup of 'builder's tea in bed, thank you DH!
I don't know what today will bring other than a walk which always helps. The week before Christmas our 30 year old niece was diagnosed with a brain tumour and is due to undergo a 12 hour op tomorrow. However the news from the hospital was not good yesterday with a further tumour found after another MRI.
Hope *Marydoll" hasn't got the awful bug and best wishes to all struggling

Up early as DD and DSiL are off to London, DGD1 to get a train back home where she has a busy social life to conduct. Have much enjoyed having them here but won’t mind a bit of quiet either. No pleasing me.

Hope this in between period brings rest and happiness and that the threatened bugs keep away.

Good morning from Durham, there’s a a beautiful pink sunrise to the East.
Enjoyed a long walk with DD1 and family yesterday, unplanned, but nice.
Today, DD2 is bringing DGS2 here, so her DH can dismantle and store their 🎄 decorations.

Disaster last night, when I found an old hair dye!!! Colour stripper due from Amazon today - I only hope it works! I can’t believe what I’ve done!!

Good morning all from an hotel in rural Leicestershire.

We came to see a Neil Diamond Tribute act. It was huge fun, the food was nice and the hotel service and ambience is fabulous. Breakfast and then back to reality.

DH booked this as it is outside our comfort zone and we were surprised how much fun we had.

Good morning from a less misty and still Suffolk. DH enjoyed his birthday yesterday and celebrations continue today with lunch out in Ipswich with DS and tribe.

Gingster I hope your journey is uneventful and the A12 is not too busy. I imagine it will be busy going south.

Hopefully the dog walk this morning will be a little less muddy than it has been for the last few days. Thank goodness for wellies.
