I love your nativity, grandmattie, especially the way the simplicity of the stable scene contrasts with the opulence of the Magi.

Yarnbombers operate here, too, madeleine45, decorating bollards and pillar boxes near my home. I believe it is a growing trend in the UK and a wonderfully quirky addition to urban environments. 😃👍👏

Happy New Year from a wild and windy W Kent. Special thoughts with those struggling along.
A visit from DD2 cheered us up yesterday, what dashing about lives they all live. We stayed up and enjoyed a glass of bubbly, heard from DD1 and DS.
Today a tidy around and make a list as we are doing our bit of family entertaining at the weekend.
Best wishes all round. Cheers

Good morning and a Happy New Year from a windy but dry Suffolk. Heavy rain is forecast later I fear.

We could hear firework bangs from the village more than a mile away last night which, thankfully, stopped before we went to bed at our usual time of just before 11pm. We were glad that they did as the dog barks at such noises but she settled down as usual.

We keep our decorations, such as they are, including the tree in place til Twelfth Night. The wise men gMattie from my mother’s knitted nativity make their way round the sitting room from Christmas Eve until then when they arrive at the crib. The children used to love to take it in turns each day to choose the direction of travel. Often the 3 wise men went backwards or in different directions!

Hoping for a new year for all filled with peace and contentment and strength for those facing challenges of any kind.

Happy New Year everyone. It’s blustery and wet here in South Lanarkshire.

DH and I had a peaceful evening and brought in the New Year quietly. We had been invited to a gathering at a neighbour’s but decided against it.

Today our offspring and all the grandchildren will be here so it’ll be a busy, noisy day.

Thinking of those who are ill or sad today.

PammyHoops Wed 01-Jan-25 08:10:13

Good morning from a blustery Portsmouth.
I have decided to forgo our usual New Years Day swim today.
The sea will be there tomorrow, or at the weekend, as our constant companion. Instead a day of rest and organisation is planned.
Happy and healthy 2025

Just popping in to wish everyone a good morning and Happy New Year from a windy Bedfordshire.

Thorntrees Wed 01-Jan-25 08:11:42

Happy New Year to everyone on this friendly thread.
It’s very dark here still but not so wet and windy as predicted- yet.
It’s our 53rd wedding anniversary today, Jan 1st all those years ago was a cold but sunny day.
No real plans for today, steak for lunch and probably a glass of bubbly.
Hope those whose are unwell, worried or sad have a better year.

Good morning Mick and everyone and a Happy New Year to you all.

I returned from down south last Monday after spending Christmas with both sons and their families...DS2 and Co. came over from Australia...which was very unselfish of them considering the weather there and the weather here! However, it was great to see them all and get a photo of the matriarch (me!) and her descendants.
The train journey back seemed to be going well, we actually got beyond Preston without being tipped out for an enforced change and wait. We got as far as Penrith where we sat for an entire hour due to more problems on the wretched line between Carlisle and Glasgow. Another free journey methinks, never the train company's fault but they have to pay up.

Today, not much will be done. I may be moved to run the vac around but I was sadly tempted in the bookshops whilst away and have yet more books to add to my backlog. I should go out for a walk, I've had more words from my boys on the subject of getting more exercise, but the weather does not look promising.

Quite a few of you seem to have ended last year on a low, with unwellness and bereavements, my condolences to you all.

Be kind to yourselves today and I hope 2025 goes well for all of us.

Good morning everyone and a very Happy New Year from Inverness where it’s cold, windy and we’ve got some wet snow
A gorgeous nativity scene gMattie you’re very talented

We enjoyed a quiet evening yesterday and didn’t stay up, our partying days are well behind us. Not sure if we’re doing anything at all today, maybe a walk if we can brave the weather
A very Happy Anniversary thorntrees enjoy your day! 🥂💐❤️
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

GrannyGravy13 Wed 01-Jan-25 08:44:20

Happy New Year morning friends 🎉🥂🍾

It is grey and the wind is blowing down the Thames Estuary strongly, we have torrential rain forecast for mid morning.

A lazy day here at Gravy Grange, no plans or commitment.

Good morning everyone and a Happy New Year from the Black country where it is wet and windy.
Lovely nativity scene grandMattie.

Happy Anniversary Thorntrees 🥂🍾
May start to take decorations down, usually remove them bit by bit.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans ☀️

Happy New year from County Durham.
It was a quiet one for us as we decided against venturing out in the wind and rain to join DS and DD1 with their in in-laws, at each house in turn. They both understand as the weather was atrocious.
Today I'll clear away some of the decorations and generally tidy around. Then I'll look at meal plans for the rest of the week, as we need to return to a healthier diet after all those Christmas treats.
That Nativity set is beautiful gM. You are so talented.
I must begin to look for patterns for this years Christmas hats for the family. I traditionally begin them in January as I have so many to make. I'm thinking maybe snowman hats for this year.
Wishing everyone a peaceful start to the new year.

HNY everyone and good morning from south Manchester. It’s very wet out as we had torrential rain in the night. We are picking my stepfather up this afternoon and the three of us are off to my favourite pub to eat. We’ve booked a table! A nice start to 2025.

Good morning from Shropshire. After heavy rain overnight all is calm at the moment.

Mum was successfully moved to the nursing wing yesterday but seems to have rallied and seemed better than she has been for the last couple of weeks.A rollercoaster of emotions but a chat with the home’s chaplain helped.

We stayed up to see the New Year in so a quiet day today.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful 2025.

Oopsadaisy1 Wed 01-Jan-25 09:02:53

Love the Nativity GM

Pantglas2 Wed 01-Jan-25 09:19:35

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda from a sodden north Wales (today is the last of it with a good drying day promised for tomorrow 🌬️so bed stripping this morning).

That dratted 🌲 can disappear as well as what little trimmings I draped around the sitting room…bah humbug eh!

Reading all your posts and it cheers me that no matter what troubles and troughs we find ourselves in, we manage to find a glimmer of hope to see us through to posting most mornings 🤗.

May that continue in 2025 - I wish you all what you wish for yourselves good people x

NannyJan53 Wed 01-Jan-25 09:20:19

Good morning and a Happy New Year from a wet and windy Black Country.

Didn't wake up until almost 9am, but didn't go to bed until 1am, stayed up to see the new year in and watch Jools.

Lazy day today, take down the decorations and put them back in the loft, that will be the exertions for today! A walk would have been on the cards, but seeing as it is still tipping it down, maybe not.

Harris I have been retired almost 8 years now, and after the initial 'what do I do now'?, I cannot imagine how I found time to go to work. Walking groups, u3a, meeting friends the time flies by!

Welcome PammyHoops to this lovely good morning thread, and anyone else who is new who I have missed

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 01-Jan-25 09:21:18

Yarn bombers here in our little town too! Always raises smiles when people walk past.

NannyJan53 Wed 01-Jan-25 09:21:22

Meant to say, love your Nativity figures gM you are indeed a very talented lady. I have never been able to knit.

harrigran Wed 01-Jan-25 09:25:09

Good morning from a dry NE where the wind has dropped.
Happy New Year everyone.
DD and SIL were here for dinner we had duck breasts she had vegan equivalent with a cranberry and port sauce. We shared a very good Aloxe corton with the meal.
Watched some TV until midnight and the fireworks from London, no fireworks to be heard where we are. Had pink champagne at midnight.
Family in county Durham and Leeds sent photos, only GD was out partying.
DD and SIL will be here most of the day and DS, DIL and GD2 will visit this afternoon.
Thoughts are with poorly people.

Gingster Wed 01-Jan-25 09:25:53

Good morning all and it’s wild here on the Suffolk coast.
We slept late, in fact Dh is still sleeping! It’s so quiet and dark here with no noise apart from the wind roaring around the cottage. The seagulls are even quiet.

We stayed up to see in the NY and raised a glass in the garden, watching another firework display along from us on the beach.

Today we’ll just hunker down and watch the sea. I might have a clear-out and sort things out for the tip/charity shop. I must make a start. We have more ‘stuff’ here than we do at home 😳.

GM those figures are so beautifully made. Such attention to detail. .
Thorntrees happy anniversary 🥂🍾.

Have a happy day - a new year and new beginnings 🎉🎊

Gingster Wed 01-Jan-25 09:28:12

Yarn bombers around our town too. I’m always amazed /delighted that they don’t get vandalised.

Jaxjacky Wed 01-Jan-25 09:32:23

Morning from a half asleep Jax in a wet and windy S Hants.
We stayed up way past midnight after a fun evening with our grandchildren, they are a pleasure and still asleep.
Stunning gMattie infinite patience.
Happy Anniversary Thorntrees 🥂
Apart from driving the youngsters home later any plans are fluid.
A very Happy and Healthy 2025 to you all, particularly Mick who like clockwork welcomes us to each day.

Happy New Year everyone. Rather late today, having a lazy morning after the late night. Heavy rain has been relentless for the past 24 hours so the cat is refusing to go out (don’t blame her and following suit). Keep cosy - hoping this weather will pass over soon. Best wishes for a happy 2025.
