A few of us were talking about pre planning, booking holidays, shows etc. on NYE. We are planning a cruise ( again) ,this time with Probus up the Eastern coast of Australia, and a trip to New Zealand with one of our grandchildren later in the year. Our friends are planning a trip to Thailand and they are coming on the same cruise as us. One couple is planning a trip to Russia to see the Hermitage museum- I don’t think I would be game to go there just now. They have worked out how to get entry into the country - very brave .Our government advises us not to go there.

The Hermitage is amazing especially if you cross the square and go into the modern art section. However anyone who goes to Russia just now is bonkers. I don’t think travel insurance will cover you if FO is saying not to go. I went in 2019 and because we spoke to Russian teenagers on a train we were questioned by the FBS.

We’re waiting for DH tests to come back 🤞 But hoping to have a weekend away with our friends in March, then our son is running in the London marathon this year, so along with our other son and family we’re all going to cheer him on, that's the end of April.
We want to visit North Devon again, DH loved it so much last time, it’s about 6 years ago now so that’ll probably be at the beginning of July.
Our friends are globetrotters and want us to go somewhere with them, but it’ll mean renewing both our passports and we’re really not that bothered. Have to see how DH is first anyway.

We have planned 25 days touring South Africa for our golden wedding anniversary. It will be luxurious with a trip on the Blue Train including a butler, safari and nice hotels. Having never had luxury holidays, I may find I can’t live without a butler after this!! Don’t think we will be celebrating another golden wedding anniversary though so pushing the boat out. Also it’s all organised for us so no stress either. Can’t wait.

My twin sons are 40 in June and I am stuck for something to do preferably with the family. We are 8 adults and 6 children ages 1 to 5. Can't organise anything else until I ve got this sorted. We live down south and in East Anglia. Anyone got any ideas?

Gosh you all seem to be spending a lot of money on expensive trips

Only taking the caravan away for few weeks, can’t make our minds up where yet, but staying in the UK
Any recommendations welcome 😃

We have booked our first holiday in four years - Cornwall in July. We have a couple of shows booked - Calamity Jane courtesy of DD for Christmas and the fabulous George Harrison Project. DD has also asked me to keep a certain date free as me, her and DGD are 'doing something'. Intriguing.

No. No money. End of.

Yes, we are going ski-ing next week. I hope to continue to ski for a good few more years and hope to take my grandchildren for the very first time either later this season or next season.
In early April, we have planned a short trip to southern Italy.
Then, we will see how it goes - I have a mother with very very late onset schizophrenia (never saw that one coming out of the blue - most people get dementia or Alzheimer’s, not this) and she lives alone (her choice) so……. now she is refusing her medication again, I am at the point of not so much giving up, but realising there is little I can do and so don’t want to continue putting our lives hold after what has been a horrendous last two years.

Only plan so far is a further blood test and a hospital appointment. My sister will organise our holiday later in the year, she does it because she does the driving but she always checks whether I'm in favour of what she chooses. I hate having every day planned out, I much prefer days where I can do as I please.

Aveline Fri 03-Jan-25 12:00:09

Is it really schizophrenia Kimski? I have seen people with Lewi body dementia display the same symptoms of hearing voices and hallucinations. Very worrying for families.

No plans. Just to recover from having half my pancreas removed due to cancer.
Been to Russia or the USSR as it was called back then in the 80s.
I was in a girls choir and we were invited to do a tour of concerts around the USSR paid for by the Russian coal miners union. It was during the miners strike.
The only thing we had to pay was the insurance but the Russian coal miners union gave us all a gift of 10 rubles so in the end it cost us nothing.
It was an amazing trip.
They flew us to the Ukraine to do some concerts there too.
It was an amazing trip.
We visited lots of places including the Hermitage, The space centre, Red square where we saw Lenin in his coffin.
St Bazil’s Cathedral among other places. It was a fascinating trip. The people were extremely friendly and accommodating.
We so enjoyed it. We didn’t want to leave.
Wouldn’t go now though but each to their own.

Not a great deal planned at the moment in way of holidays. 3 Springsteen UK gigs booked and greatly anticipated and may venture to some of the European dates ❤️. 3 granddaughters recently moved to UK so ending our frequent Asia trips but will hopefully spend extensive time with them here. Things have the habit of just turning up. Bring it on

JadeOlivia Fri 03-Jan-25 12:22:43

A Bruce Springstein and an Ed Sheeran concert. Weekend in Paris to see Notre Dame. A wedding in Canada and main holiday will be Japan in autumn. And retirement !

Sheian57 Fri 03-Jan-25 12:24:15

We have booked to see Joseph, the holiday show, Shirley Valentine and have booked a week in Yorkshire Dale's for four of us in March. Not looked further than that yet, but will be doing so soon.

Cateq Fri 03-Jan-25 12:24:46

Getting ready for DS2’s wedding in Barcelona April 2026. So some serious dieting hopefully followed by some clothes shopping as we’re all staying at the villa for a week.

Moggycuddler Fri 03-Jan-25 12:25:18

Try to get back into yoga, which I let slide last year. Maybe get out my long put-aside acrylic paints and canvases and produce a couple of abstract masterpieces!

tanith Fri 03-Jan-25 12:45:06

First winning a million with my bonds. Hoping to go and see my son in Gibraltar in May with one daughter and a week in Wales with my other daughter and while there visit my sister near Tenby. I plan on moving house too all these plans will take place assuming my ŕeally bad back pain at the moment improves.

AuntieE Fri 03-Jan-25 12:54:54

No, as yet I have no definate plans for this year.

I would like to go away for a while in the late summer, but that will depend upon whether I can find a boarding kennel for my two cats within a reasonable distance of my home, and whether the municipality starts the new drainage and sewage system, seperating rainwater from sewage that they were supposed to have done in 2024.

The point about this is that householders have to pay for the new drains on their property, and as no-one seems to know how much work will be needed, where the existing drains are (unbelievable but true!) estimates vary wildly, and if I have to pay the highest estimate, then holidays will just not be possible.

I spent most of the past year redecorating the house and painting the outsides of the window frames. This year if the weather is warm and dry in May or June (some hope!) I ought to do the last five window-frames and renew the front garden fence.

Obviously any holiday will need to be cheap.

Kimski44 Fri 03-Jan-25 13:17:05

Yes, unfortunately it is - no sign of Lewy bodies. It’s possibly caused by some brain damage, also she is very deaf now (which came on around ten years’ ago). She responded well to antipsychotic meds whilst in hospital (she has been sectioned twice - can you imagine, at age 94….??!). Going away may possible trigger it off again as she also has anosognosia (an inability to know that you are ill). She has no signs of dementia. So there we are…….

EkwaNimitee Fri 03-Jan-25 13:17:24

Off to Costa Rica in the spring and planning a trip to Oz and NZ in the autumn plus other little trips in between. So many places to see and time is running out!
