Anything planned yet for 2025 ?

Yes, we are going ski-ing next week. I hope to continue to ski for a good few more years and hope to take my grandchildren for the very first time either later this season or next season.
In early April, we have planned a short trip to southern Italy.
Then, we will see how it goes - I have a mother with very very late onset schizophrenia (never saw that one coming out of the blue - most people get dementia or Alzheimer’s, not this) and she lives alone (her choice) so……. now she is refusing her medication again, I am at the point of not so much giving up, but realising there is little I can do and so don’t want to continue putting our lives hold after what has been a horrendous last two years.

Ask the MH team if she can be given a depot injection.. (could last 4 weeks) It would mean that she doesn't have to remember her medication and that you can relax..

Me too.
Possibly for similar reasons but I have hesitated to rain on anybodys parade. Somehow its a comfort to know I am not alone.

I think this thread and the one about people keeping warm this winter, just highlights the huge wealth divide amongst GN contributers..

Sounds really boring but no longer have a great desire to travel these days. Since moving to our self build in Cornwall I am more than happy simply enjoying life here.
DH is off touring parts of S. Asia in March for 6 weeks , something he has wanted to do for a long while . Only problem being he is crap at organising so I have been more involved than I had hoped !

We don't bother much with holidays these days but we have had a bit of a rotten year. DH was blue lighted to hospital in May. We spent several hours in A&E and all that entails before he was admitted and hooked up to drips and oxygen. Then finding a man dead in our street in the middle of the afternoon has prompted us to book a few days in Cornwall.

Nothing planned. Will wait until this cold winter is over and then see what I can afford to do.

I’m off to Handle’s Messiah today at the RCH.
I’m planning to just do more things that make me happy this year. So I’m starting with a “Hallelujah”!

I love Messiah, but find it too sore to listen to since loads of steroids and breathing problems mean I can’t sing nowadays ( there are those who would say I never could!)
I used to love singing it in the GRCH at New Year, and really miss singing there.

Massiah was magnificent, I’m so sorry you find it difficult to listen to live performances, it must be a great loss.
My mum and her dad were great singers and I’ve heard them sing countless times.
I wept buckets during the Hallelujah chorus as I could both hear and not hear their voices.
The only time I’ve sung at the concert hall is when you get to sing “hark the herald angels” with the choir and the orchestra at the Christmas concert. I’m sure my small contribution was essential!

I 100% agree, whichever part of the divide, (or in-between), we find ourselves on. GN is a microcosm of society, so that's why I also agree that not "raining on anybody's parade" on this thread, or any others, is considerate.
I'm guessing lots of people when meeting in the new year are asked the question, "Going anywhere nice this year? or Got any plans for this year?", so the thread was probably started as a chat along those lines.
I think the overwhelming feel here is to plan to do more things we enjoy.

Sometimes it's small plans that are satisfying. For example, I saw a mug that I really like but dismissed mentally because I didn't really need it and it seemed an extravagance. A few days later I thought 'sod it. Why shouldn't I have a nice thing that I will use every day?' Readers, I've ordered it!

I say the above post after clearing several family members' homes and funding cupboards full of things that were deemed 'too good to use'

Agreed.

Two threads about differing topics and different lives.

We live simply in a very old home, we love to travel. Some like to go to restaurants, coffees, garden centers, buy new clothing. Financial variety.

Some don’t have the money to make those choices. Their choices are between heating and eating, not between going to restaurants and buying clothes or taking holidays.

It doesn't mean others have to tiptoe round, though.

I don't care if people have plenty to spend, or nothing.

It makes no difference whatsoever to me.

I agree MissA. We are all muddling through, making the best of what we've been dealt.

Ain't that the truth!
