Labour has come under fire after refusing to hold a public inquiry into historic sexual abuse by grooming gangs in Oldham.

Scandalous I think.
I’m with Elon Musk on this re his comments to Jess Phillips.

Elon Musk attacked the decision as “disgraceful” and Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative leader, said a full national inquiry into rape gangs was “long overdue”.

Jess Phillips, Labour’s safeguarding minister, insisted it was “for Oldham council alone”.

Really Jess?

Not all in every occupation are free from criticism

And this is a national, not a local issue. No local authority can be trusted to expose its own employees for their collaboration with the criminals in this case.

You simply can’t be suggesting that social workers tasked with jointly investigating child sexual exploitation would lose their moral compass for fear of upsetting the Muslim community in their area?
Many hard working sensible dedicated workers did all they could to protect children. To challenge management and senior police officers about the need for a dedicated team to do this difficult work.

I agree.

It's none of that little toe rag Musk's business. He's firmly cosied up to Trump at the moment, and he's trying to destabilise other governments and promoting the Neo-Nazi movement in Germany. He and his money can go to hell. Though he's already given some to Reform. Piece of s..t.

👍

Hopefully MAGA will get him and put him out of everybody's misery.

So you are saying that you are willing to put up with the interference in the way we run our own country because NigelnFarage is given money.

The statistics give the figures of ethnic backgrounds of perpetrators.

I'm not going to make any excuses for delays in prosecution due to fears of racial tensions since I agree and everyone here has made it clear its wrong.

But I am pointing out that campaigners have noted its been also very difficult and inadequate to prosecute gangs of all backgrounds,

and that victim blaming and lack of understanding and slow to act and lack of resources of trained police forces people who are have also been across the board ethnically and carried on longer than we now would accept.

Now that police and other agencies are aware and acting on these issues both he racial element and prosecuting gang rape in general

and very in depth inquiries already held and recommendations already made by very well respected figures I do not see why further inquiries would add anything to making things better.

Spend the money and time on "yet another enquiry" on strengthening the agencies which support the vulnerable.

Anne Cryer was always a shining example of a conviction politician who put herself in the firing line, labelled a racist and a liar, but continued her fight for justice. Her constituents were lucky to have her. We live in an age of so many lightweight, career politicians, sometimes we need to remind ourselves of those who went into politics for all the right reasons.

How true 👏👏👏

People who wanted Brexit in order to "take back control " and "sovereignty " seem to be the same people who are very relaxed about some American car salesman interfering in the running of our country. I don't understand why.

Wrong!!!
I know the people on this thread who voted for Brexit.
They are not all supporting Musk’s comments.
And why the sneary remark about car salesmen. 🤷‍♀️

Galaxy Fri 03-Jan-25 11:24:42

Yes we need people with courage who will have difficult conversations.

Wyllow03 your comment illustrates nicely why the Asian men in the Rochdale, Oxford and other areas were treated with kid gloves since you appear to think that the ‘huge majority’ are only gangs of white groomers.Since the UK is overwhelmingly a white population there are going to be many more individuals who are white and indulging in this dreadful grooming of children.Large numbers of men with Asian heritage backgrounds have been found to be doing this but in the past not gone after in the same way as the white groomers for fear of racial tensions, so they got an easy ride and went on committing these horrible acts.

I think this thread should be about all grooming and how badly it's been dealt with GG13, after all the huge majority has been by white men. Why pick on gangs of Asian origin only?

Why can we not discuss the grooming, rape and abuse of white vulnerable female children by Asian men?

After all it is the subject of the OP.

I am out now with family for GC birthday, I will leave you to it.

That is why it was never dealt with properly in the first place. Fears of the police etc of being accused of racism.

Pakistani men. Let’s NOT tar all ‘Asians’. That’s plain wrong.

I think it’s because Reform could do with a financial boost/and/or IT savvy to elevate their reach so that they can compete with the big boys (the more established political parties) better. Reform are the new kids on the block. I find that exciting. Sick now of the UK uniparty way of (not) doing things.

Allira Fri 03-Jan-25 10:54:28

It's nothing to do with the poor girls and how they were abused or anything else concerning the gangs.

It's all about manipulation, interference in another country's politics and control.

Anniebach Fri 03-Jan-25 10:51:59

Because the car salesman is supporting Farage

MissAdventure Fri 03-Jan-25 10:49:50

Nor me.
Most things deemed americanisation are frowned upon, usually...

Although people from all backgrounds talk and have here about it, the time is for stronger action not more talking/inquiries. How will a further detailed enquiry on Oldham actually help except cost more money?

Galaxy Fri 03-Jan-25 10:15:10

Oh and if the left dont talk about it they may as well hand the keys of downing street to Farage. I suppose that will give them another opportunity to wander around looking confused and saying how did that happen.

Galaxy Fri 03-Jan-25 10:12:55

Because it is a particular problem. In the same way there was a problem within the catholic church. It is institutional cowardice not to talk about that.
