Labour has come under fire after refusing to hold a public inquiry into historic sexual abuse by grooming gangs in Oldham.

Scandalous I think.
I’m with Elon Musk on this re his comments to Jess Phillips.

Elon Musk attacked the decision as “disgraceful” and Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative leader, said a full national inquiry into rape gangs was “long overdue”.

Jess Phillips, Labour’s safeguarding minister, insisted it was “for Oldham council alone”.

Really Jess?

Aveline

These grooming gangs are diabolical. They're nothing new and should have been dealt with very severely years ago.

They sure should have been but the SS and police and maybe some teachers who were concerned felt wrongly hamstrung by worries about perceived racism and didn’t do their jobs.As simple as that.
I hope we have all moved on from that tiptoeing around racial sensibilities when investigating grooming.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-Jan-25 15:00:00

Oreo if only

Wyllow3 Thu 02-Jan-25 15:01:38

Googling tells me Musk has 3 nationalities, American, Canadian, and South African.

Boz Thu 02-Jan-25 15:02:03

I agree with Oreo. We need to move away from racial sensibilities, especially with grooming.
Jess Philips has been pulled back in line. Big Labour voters in Oldham.

Oreo if only

I agree.

The conservative set up Government Task force I quoted above makes it clear

"Crucial to the taskforce’s work has been the development of the Complex and Organised Child Abuse Database, which provides forces with a more robust data picture of the scale, risk, prevalence and characteristics of group-based child sexual exploitation than ever before, helping forces to deploy their resources locally in the most targeted way,

and investigate without fear or favour around misplaced cultural sensitivities

Letter from Jess Phillips, safeguarding minister.

JP was so very vocal against the Conservatives for not doing enough, something I agree with, now she is backtracking.

So she agrees with the validity of wanting another enquiry, just thinks the local authority should fund it not the Government. Because of course local authorities have tons of spare cash lying around they can use! I used to like Jess Phillips but she has done nothing but disappoint for some time now.

Of course Elon Musk can have no influence on UK matters, but I'll defend his right to comment on them, and we can just ignore him. I'll defend the rights of the posters on this thread who comment and advise him to look closer to home and cite the problems the USA faces. I don't like the man but that's not a reason to silence him. Voltaire said it best.

I do wish the 'grooming gang' label could be more accurately substituted with 'child rape gangs' which is exactly what the perverts are.

I think a man who renames himself Kekius Maximus after the Greek god of primordial darkness, should be locked up, never mind try to influence British politics.

MissAdventure Thu 02-Jan-25 16:07:01

What a pillock.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 02-Jan-25 16:24:14

I certainly agree that these grooming gangs, and all other child abusers, whatever their ethnic background need to be dealt with quickly and very firmly.

Interesting that there seem to have been several anti-government threads started by FGT who has made no secret of her preference for Reform in the past.

As for Elon Musk, what business is it of his?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 16:30:42

Okay, point taken about Musk.
And GBNews.

BUT there’s headlines in the DMail today about this.
And the Telegraph.
So yes, ignore chatter about it but it’s not going away.

It’s a national issue. Given that these grooming gangs business models operated in Bradford, Rotherham, Rochdale, Bristol, Derby, Halifax, Huddersfield, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford, and Telford, at least that we know of, it is absurd that the enquiries should continue at a local level.

And Wyllow you like facts. I read the sentencing remarks of this case (put the complete phrase into Google):
SENTENCING REMARKS OF HIS HONOUR JUDGE PETER ROOK QC 27 JUNE 2013
If ever there was any question left over the incompatibility of certain cultures, this is it.
The whole thing is like a censored horror movie but ten times worse. In particular page 11 paragraphs 53 & 54 are so grotesque that I can’t unsee them.

Casdon Thu 02-Jan-25 16:38:50

Does anybody know why the Tories didn’t initiate a public inquiry when they were in power?

Anniebach Thu 02-Jan-25 16:40:44

Because they only had 14 years , Labour has had 6 months ?

JaneJudge Thu 02-Jan-25 16:41:44

Why is Elon Musk aligning himself with Tommy Robinson though? It’s really odd

JaneJudge Thu 02-Jan-25 16:44:54

Men have been causing a lot of problems haven’t they? In all sorts of ways for decades. White British and Irish men in the Catholic Church. Men involved in childrens homes in the UK
Elon musk impregnating anyone who wants his superior sperm even if they work for him
Tommy R causing other problems with male violence in the Uk

I know the solution. Let’s send a female MP to prison

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 16:51:26

Rosie51 I agree with you about the terminology being used. Asian grooming gangs? Don't insult the good people in Japan, Korea, Vietnam etc. Let's start calling them by their real name.

Pakistani, paedophile, raping gangs.
Stop the B S.

Sago Thu 02-Jan-25 16:54:03

The child grooming was country wide.

Our daughter witnessed it 20 years ago, she lived in an upstairs flat in a Lancashire market town.
Her flat was opposite a take away, she and her house mates realised what was happening and contacted Police.

Nothing was done so she wrote to her local MP (Conservative) and cc’d the Police Chief , Police investigated but said there was no evidence.
They saw young girls arrive every evening in cars followed by a series of much older men.
The evidence was there every night.

At this stage we had never heard of grooming gangs it seemed incredible in such a lovely area.

About 5 years ago our daughter resubmitted all her evidence and email trail to a researcher, she was interviewed on national radio but still nothing was ever done.

Jeanathome Thu 02-Jan-25 16:54:59

" I'm with Elon Musk" God help us.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 16:55:15

That is shocking Sago.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 16:56:00

Quote:
Sir Keir gave the green light to prosecuting the Rochdale grooming case, the first of its kind, and said in 2023 he was in favour of “anything we can do to crack down on these cases".
“Punishing criminals, protecting communities and securing justice for victims will be at the forefront of my Labour government.”

Well that's clear: so let's see his Labour government do it. Leaving it to a local council is a complete cop out and disgraceful.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-Jan-25 16:59:59

Beginning of the report on Government website regarding the action taken when Rishi Sunak became PM.

Up till then the Conservative leadership tippy toed round the racial and cultural implications.

MissAdventure Thu 02-Jan-25 17:15:57

That's still in place, isn't it, with a list of arrests and prosecutions.
So, we're on the right track, at long last.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 02-Jan-25 17:17:41

We all recently discussed how brave Gisèle Pelicot was. People need to know the absolute horror of what was allowed to go on here in the UK.

Countless girls (Children) repeatedly raped , harrowing accounts from the trials , one 14 year old was raped by 32 Pakistani men on a single evening…. Just think about that.

love0c Thu 02-Jan-25 17:18:59

That is Labour for you. They are a danger! I hope they are out before next Christmas.

Silverling48 Thu 02-Jan-25 17:24:18

FGT it’s already been asked a few posts up but can you tell me what the conservatives did about this.? They had 14 years. Shouldn’t you be even the teeniest bit critical of them?
