Irrational dislikes of people you don’t know..

Perhaps I shouldn’t introduce this topic, as it could get nasty. I was thinking how I have irrational dislikes of people I see on television whom I don’t know at all. Helen Skelton, Sarah Moore (from Money for Nothing), Meghan used-to-be Markle, Luke Littler. I know nothing about any of these people, but I can’t stand them.

Of course the upside of this is that I have irrational likes as well.

Definitely Lorraine Kelly, also that annoying woman on the endless Fairy adverts.

Ilovedogs22 Sat 04-Jan-25 21:25:13

Oh yes, I agree Helen Blooming Mirren, right up her own whatsit.
Acts like she's God's gift to the 'Craft' & all men too 🙄.

Nick Knowles.

Oh Davina McCall, yes!!!!

Frankie Boyle, I really can't understand why he hasn't been cancelled he's made some utterly vile misogynistic comments about Katie Price, her disabled son and Holly Willoughby. How does he get away with it?

I don't like The Beckhams for the simple reason of how they've monetised their children, to build their brand. It's not as if the kids could have ever made an informed choice, it started in babyhood They've been so exposed to scrutiny and at times ridiculed for lacking any discernible talent. I know they're not alone, but they seem to be the worst,

Claire Balding - no particular reason except she seems the boring type.

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 04-Jan-25 21:51:58

Also -
James Coden - I find him unfunny and irritating
Jimmy Carr - crude and too fake-looking now (what has he had done to his face?)

Lee Evans - too fidgety and sweaty

Crikey, how long have you got…?

I can’t stand David Attenborough but he’s a long way down the vast list of people - celebrities, whatever that means, people known to me only as a result of media representation- that I find quite repellent!

Some personalities on TV seem as if they would be fun to be with and good company. However, James Nesbitt has given me the creeps from the first time I saw him in a programme, and I have no idea why. He's probably also fun and good company - but I can't bear him.

Davina McCall comes top of my dislike list closely followed by Alan Carr, Jimmy Carr, Stephen Fry, Joanna Lumley, Nagga whatsit from Breakfast tv , Dan Snow, Alan Titchmarsh and Chris Packam.

Some dislikes are irrational but other dislikes come from gut feelings.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned Katie Hopkins as she is universally disliked, especially by those of a Left -leaning persuasion.

Although she undoubtedly goes too far sometimes, she can be very funny in a naughty, wicked way.

It's a strange thing how we can be drawn to one person but be repelled by another.
I don't like Alan Titchmarsh, the sewing women on the repair shop also the twit in the daft cap, never have.
I also have never liked David Attenborough or Chalie Dimmock.
My list is quite long, I don't know what that says about me!!!! 😉

No!!!! How can you not like David Attenborough?? He is adorable and when my granddaughter was about 10, she was mad about him!
Seriously, I understand what you mean. That dreadful Greg Wallace gave me the ‘ick’ long before anything came to light about him. I can’t understand how 4 women actually married him.
It’s strange how we like or dislike people. I have never understood it. But that’s how the cookie crumbles, as they say.
Luckily, there aren’t too many tv people I dislike, and when I come across one, I switch them off!

Calendargirl

Can’t agree about Luke Littler.

I was pleased when he won the darts, for a young man he comes across as quite humble, unassuming, level headed…..

I hope he continues to be successful, and remain as sensible and unspoiled as he seems to be.

Bet his mum is so proud.

I’m sure that ‘s all quite right and very reasonable, but this is about irrational dislikes, and he repels me. 17.? He’s more like 50.

I understand what some people are saying about those who are "up themselves" and think very highly of themselves. It's mainly the ones who have come from TV rather than from a theatre and drama background. Perhaps because they feel they need to prove something. For example, back in the day, DH said that Leonard Rossiter was the most objectionable miserable person to work with on stage, but on tv he came across as funny and endearing.
A few names I agree with on here are:
Chris Packham,
Lorraine Kelly and
David Walliams.
As a parent David Beckham is actually very humble and tries hard to keep his children grounded, (but I'm not saying how I know this).

Alex Jones of the One Show. She just irritates me.So much I am put off the whole program

Eloethan Sun 05-Jan-25 00:58:30

I absolutely dislike the man who comperes The Masked Singer and I don't know why. Also not keen on Alan Titchmarsh (his fawning interview with the late Duke of Edinburgh was particularly nauseating). Can't stand David Walliams - his smuttiness or his ghastly books for children.
I do quite like David Attenborough but I was very annoyed some years ago with his remark about curbing world population in order to save the planet. He particularly referred to Africa, which I thought was a bit rich because Africa and the developing countries use just a fraction of the resources of the wealthy countries. Also, I believe he has two children of his own. But on the whole I admire him.

I cannot look at men in baseball caps. I really can't.

Yes, including that one.

Only those under 18 should wear them.

Kate1949 Sun 05-Jan-25 01:16:39

Davina McCall, Lorraine Kelly, Carol Vorderman, Clare Balding,

MissAdventure Sun 05-Jan-25 01:18:56

Some names are coming up quite regularly.
I'm quite surprised by that.

Well, that's torn it!!!

I don’t mind David Attenborough but I have never felt quite the same about him since one of the missionaries at the church I was attending called him David Rabbitburrow. Keir Starmer I have never liked even before he was PM. Not just his politics, just him. Another one is that bloke who was a judge in Britains Got Talent, Simon something or other.
