Good morning. It is -4 outside .
I’ll come back later to read all the posts as I’m off to see the BP nurse. Hoping not to go back on tablets but suspect I will.

A trip to Costco this afternoon. They have a large Lego set heavily reduced. Hope they have some left it’s DGS 2 birthday soon.
Keep warm everyone and have a good day.

Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow, where it is -7°C.

You are indeed a very talented lady, Karma.
Grammaretto, how kind of your hairdresser, mine does that, whenever I am confined to barracks.

I feel for Iris, she has a lot to contend with. Lashing out and wanting to hurt those close to her, demonstrates how unhappy and frustrated she must be. I don't condone it, but can understand it. It must make you sad, GM.

I had an unexpectedly pleasant day yesterday. I messaged DD, who was coming down to use my printer, to say that I was going to the surgery and drop off charity bags. She said that she was in the hairdresser's and if I wanted to wait, she would drive me. It was a relief, I was struggling a bit, I didn't want to ask DH, for he can't cope with the one way system in the retail park, where the charity shop is.

She took me to Asda for my shopping, (no heavy trolley for me to push) and then a light lunch. As we were leaving, we bumped into Dollie's mum, a surprise, as we were miles from home!
The only disappointment was not visiting TKMAXX, next door to the charity shop. I wasn't brave enough to broach the subject with DD, who loathes shopping. I sometimes wonder if she was swapped at birth, how can she possibly be my daughter? 🤣

I have prescriptions to pick up, so many of them need ordered, it is never straightforward and parking is becoming more and more difficult in the town centre. However, I usually bump into people I know and am out for ages! Yesterday it was two ex colleagues from local schools.

P.S. GrannyGravy, my GN twin, I too love tapas, what more do we have in common? 🤣

EkwaNimitee Fri 10-Jan-25 08:16:39

Good morning Mick and everyone from icy Carlisle where it was -6°C at 6am. It will be like yesterday when we got up to a balmy 1°C in the afternoon.

A day of pottering yesterday, getting some little jobs done, which generally don't get done because they are just little jobs!
In between, admin, braintraining and reading. It will probably be much the same today, I'm not venturing out for a walk, the pavements are well frosted and the air too cold.

Love the socks, karma, how cheerful they are.

Have the best possible day everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jan-25 08:16:46

Marydoll DD’s who we live to pieces but can be prickly

I take these moments as a tribute to how close we are that she can vent to (at) me

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jan-25 08:17:23

love not live 🤷‍♀️

hollysteers Fri 10-Jan-25 08:18:33

Good morning Mick and all from -4C northwest coast.
A fitful night with cramp, but off to art group soon, first meeting of the year. Would prefer my cosy, fleecy bed, but must wait until tonight…

Lovely socks Mizuna, sorry you have ups and downs with Iris GM and thoughts to all🌺
.

Annypop Fri 10-Jan-25 08:19:37

Good morning from a very icy County Durham.

I must say I admire those socks karma. They are so jolly.

My knitted wreath is progressing. I love the various shades of green I've chosen for the ring. Now I need to find a pattern for some Spring flowers.

Yesterday's trip into the city proved worthwhile. DH ordered his specs and I managed to pick up a couple of sale items for my Christmas stash. For the past few years I've always scoured places like Boots to see what bargains will come in handy as future gifts.

Some cleaning and tidying today as I've still not organised the rooms correctly since the decorations were removed. I'm relieved from cooking duties today as Friday is DH chosen one. I may need to take a trip out into the cold for some milk, but other than that keeping warm.

DGD2 expected after school to try on her fancy dress costume. Fingers crossed it fits!

Wishing all a peaceful day.

Good morning all. -6 start in Glasgow this morning, dry with sunshine again.

DD1 will be here after school drop off. I don’t envy her doing school runs under these conditions. 🥶 My days of doing this early morning are thankfully in the distant past. She is probably tired of hearing, be careful now from me. She is 49yrs old and she now worries about me driving in icy conditions and in the dark, neither of which bothers me at all.

All this talk of knitting has put me in the mood. I have a good stash of wool and will knit some hats for local a local charity. Fabulous socks Karma. We were taught how to knit socks in primary school but that was a very long time ago and not sure I would be successful doing it now almost 60yrs later.

Have the best day possible all and stay safe on the roads.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jan-25 08:20:54

grandMattie apologies for misnaming Iris Imogen, no idea why I did that 🤷‍♀️

Marydoll Fri 10-Jan-25 08:25:11

Annypop, I did exactly the same in Boots yesterday! I love when the gifts are half price or less!

JudyBloom Fri 10-Jan-25 08:27:17

Good Morning everyone, a bright but very frosty one.
Have the best day you can.

grandMattie Fri 10-Jan-25 08:33:57

No probs, gg13.
MD, yes I am sad re. iris’ behaviour. Apparently, she is delightful out of the house. Sadly, I have never witnessed that side of her.

Marydoll Fri 10-Jan-25 08:36:21

Madeleine, my card blocks large payments, including my credit card bill.

I was advised by the bank to install the app, which allows you to pay larger amounts. There are security questions to ensure you are not being scammed.
I no longer have any bother.

Liberty Fri 10-Jan-25 08:40:01

Good morning from a frosty Suffolk where the sun is peeping through. Yesterday was a chilly but sunny day which was spent in the delightful company of a dear friend. We enjoyed chat and laughter in equal measure.

I have a hair appointment this afternoon when I shall learn all the local gossip from my hairdresser.

Lovely socks Karmalady. I love the colours. DH loves warm brightly coloured socks and was delighted to get 10 pairs of thick cosy ones from the family for his birthday last month.

Hope those in parts of the country with more severe weather than we have can stay warm and safe if venturing out.

monk08 Fri 10-Jan-25 08:40:01

Good morning all -4 here in the Black country but it looks like the sun us trying to make an appearance.
No daytime plans but over to the club this evening, DH needs his members card reprogrammed for the New year.
Lovely socks Karma DiL has knitted some very similar with gloves to match.
Safe travels those on the move, have a good day everyone whatever your plans ☀️

Bonnybanko Fri 10-Jan-25 08:48:08

Good morning all it’s very cold here on the east coast of Fife. That’s the heating bumped up to 18 degrees . I’m off out today with my lovely new carer to Sainsburys for a small food shop. Last night I put a dishwasher tablet into my airfryer basket with boiling water to leave it soaking overnight it’s a great way to clean it without any scrubbing.

Have a good day my friends , stay safe and cosy be kind 💐💐

luluaugust Fri 10-Jan-25 08:49:32

Good morning from a -3 W Kent. A quiet, at home morning and then keeping an eye on DGS5 later.
Pleased yesterday as I managed to get a hearing test at the hospital for next week. We are having a medical month as DH needs a tooth extracted and a filling.
Love the socks, I shall be looking out my bit of knitting I started last Winter.
Best wishes

Jaxjacky Fri 10-Jan-25 08:53:06

Morning from a frosty S Hants, -2.
Love the socks karma tempting me to learn to knit.
Yesterday I got to the library, lovely and snug in there, a real warm space, but I didn’t dally, fuelled car on the way home.
MrJ on a voluntary drive later, Tesco delivery this afternoon and pub tonight.
I have fire envy Ashcombe we had a similar one when we lived in Françe, I miss it.
Have a pleasant day all
🦩🦩

GrannySomerset Fri 10-Jan-25 09:22:58

Really bitter this morning with a heavy frost but mercifully no wind. Will brave the elements for the oldies’ coffee morning and then a supermarket run when the car has thawed out. DS and co are coming tomorrow and will not unreasonably expect to be fed and I have nothing in the freezer suitable for four. Definitely something not Christmassy.

Hope everyone is keeping warm - the new sitting room fire was fitted just in time for this cold spell and I am very glad of it.

harrigran Fri 10-Jan-25 09:24:13

Good morning from a frosty NE.
It is cosy as the heating has remained on overnight.
Today I am going out for lunch with my friend, a more local restaurant, hope the menu is good.
Sister is having physiotherapy in an attempt to prepare her for discharge from hospital, I am really concerned about her being alone with a neck brace on but she tells me that social care is very good in Germany.
Have a good day everyone.

Georgesgran Fri 10-Jan-25 09:36:57

Good morning from a bright, cold Durham. Another poor night - it’s monotonous.

I’m meeting DD2 later for our regular nail appointment. She’s very quiet and unsettled these days, but playing things close to her chest. I have an idea what’s going on, but she’s tight lipped.
I suppose she’ll tell me when she’s ready.
As I’ll be just outside Newcastle, I might take advantage of that and have a mooch around John Lewis and Fenwicks, although my serious shopping days are over and I quite loathe it now.

Best wishes to all. X

Grandmabatty Fri 10-Jan-25 09:43:55

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -5° and frosty. Ash you were very lucky indeed.
Yesterday I had a chiropodist appointment but that was all. My hip began to ache, presumably with the cold temperatures and my feet hurt too. I'm falling apart! So I hunkered down and pottered inside.
Today I woke to a message being sent from dd. It was a film of dgs1 'playing' his guitar and singing. He was serenading a wee girl DD was taking to school today 😂. He's so sweet.
I will have to brave the outdoors for a trip to Aldi. I have run out of bread and my milk is decidedly iffy. And I'll need something for dinner. Heigh ho. Have a good day all

aggie Fri 10-Jan-25 09:47:14

Good morning from , you’ve guessed ……. A very frosty and bright Co Armagh
My landline was fixed yesterday by two very chatty engineers , who commiserated with me about being unable to speak to someone when I rang to report the fault , but they did try to convince me to swop to .? Fibre ?
I’ve put out crumbs for the birds , I’ll put out water now , but it freezes so quickly
Thinking of the poorly 💐

Taichinan Fri 10-Jan-25 09:56:44

Good morning all. Late again, so a quick post and I shall read later. It's a beautiful sunny day on the Angus coast and a balmy 1°C. My cousin has just reported from SW Scotland to say they are at -9.4° but even that would appear to be balmy compared to some.
My great-niece and family in LA were evacuated yesterday. They are now staying in an Airbnb in Palm Springs, a two hour drive away. No word about their home but hopefully no news is good news.
Yesterday also my DGS1 had the lumbar puncture which will confirm his diagnosis of Hairy Cell Leukaemia. He has to wait until 27th January for the result (which, according to his consultant is a foregone conclusion) before, I suppose, going into a queue for treatment.
On a brighter note, returning to tai chi classes was lovely and a much needed relaxation. I didn't teach but we did three sets and amazed ourselves that body memory was present and correct!
I picked up on the photos as I scrolled down. Lovely cosy colourful socks Karma, talented lady. And such glorious warm fire Ash.
I hope everyone has their cosy socks on (I was going to say "to hand" but that would be silly 😉) and their equivalent to a warm fire. Have a good day x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 10-Jan-25 10:19:10

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where we had another snowfall last night. Luckily we don’t have to go anywhere so we’re not! The Boy Wonder’s school has closed for a snow day but Teacher Mummy has gone into work and ditto L’il Miss at her junior school. I think each Head makes an early morning call about the situation at their school. That said, the sun is shining here and by Monday we’ll have 9°C!
