Good morning from a chilly Bristol. The temperatures will be going from -2C to +2C today; not very cold for some but pretty chilly for southwestern Britain.
My day was quiet yesterday; I went for an invigorating tai chi class in the morning, did bits and bobs before going to DD’s for dinner. Poor Iris is nor happy again, but it’s a shame she expresses it by being nasty and obstructive. I got into her bad book when I chastised her, but then she doesn’t like me…
Today, I’ve got my new term’s Spanish class. In the afternoon, I shall be baking for tomorrow’s coffee and chat in church.
I trust you are all keeping warm and safe with all this icy weather.

Good morning from a cold corner of La Sarthe.

Not much news as we’ve been hibernating in front of the wood burner each day. On Wednesday, DH left a couple of logs on top to dry out which nearly ignited with the heat! 🔥 It was only when I noticed how smoky it was becoming that we realised how close we had come to a near disaster! 😳

Hope everyone stays safe, warm and as well as possible.

Good morning from very cold s somerset, should be dry today

The size 6 socks were finished yesterday, they are a present. I wear woollen socks like these every day, over tights and they are very cosy

First time ever, I put the electric blanket on again at 3am, just on low and had more sleep time for which I am grateful.

Today? Nothing planned but I think I will be carrying on with knitting a warm hat, which is another present. I have my things around me, nice bags that contain knitting etc, no point in tidying any of that lot away. I will be indoors all day, it is too slippy to be out

Have a good day

grandMattie Fri 10-Jan-25 06:23:23

What lovely sock, karma!

Grammaretto Fri 10-Jan-25 06:33:05

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Verrrry cold.

My kitchen is like a fridge, just as well because I can't reach into my undercounter fridge while my new hip doesn't allow me to bend.

I managed to get dressed yesterday with some difficulty, especially socks.
I shall dress again and go to the hairdresser. He offered to wash and dry my hair for nothing while I'm recuperating.
People have been so kind.

Tonight my old friend is coming for supper. I hope he'll pick up a takeaway on his way!

Those socks are so nice Karmalady
My knitting is coming on slowly.

Hoping everyone has a good day.

Good morning all from South Lanarkshire. Alexa tells me it’s -6* so much the same as yesterday.

Off to Edinburgh for our first childminding day of the year. We will go from there directly to DD’s this evening to look after theirs. SiL will be at the rugby game and DD has to take her eldest to play netball. DH will probably go along to watch.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

cornergran Fri 10-Jan-25 06:38:52

Morning Mick, morning All from an icy corner of Somerset.

We’ll venture out after lunch for some bits and pieces otherwise a hibernating sort of day. Will make a start on an 8 page form I must take to a forthcoming hospital appointment, it asks some searching questions and for a lot of detail. Like eating an elephant I plan a bite at a time.

As ever my thoughts are with all with personal mountains to climb. Stay warm and safe everyone, have the best day you can.

kittylester Fri 10-Jan-25 06:50:00

Good morning all from a very cold North Leicestershire.

We have an early start - DH has to try to get to a class at the gym and I am filling in for someone at a Memory Cafe on the other side of Charnwood Forest - with a forecast of fog. Wish me luck.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Greyduster Fri 10-Jan-25 06:59:59

Good morning, Michael, and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is minus 4 outside and indoors this morning it was 11 -the lowest I’ve known it since we moved here - so the heating has a mountain to climb. Venus, the morning star, is very bright in the western sky. I managed to get to the hairdressers yesterday. Her salon is on a side road and while it looked clear it had large patches of black ice so once out of the car, I had to pick my way gingerly. Today I have nothing planned other than some knitting and maybe a trip to the supermarket.
Karma those socks are gorgeous. I love jolly socks. I wear Nordic ones in the winter. Just putting them on makes me feel better.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 10-Jan-25 07:09:03

Good morning from another very cold and frosty Oxfordshire, the frost stayed all day yesterday and is forecast to do so today as well.

I have some boxes to break down today, I don’t think they will ‘come in handy’ after all, I should have put them into the recycle bin as they arrived, now it will take me ages to do.

A quick clean up and I’m done for the day as we have leftovers for dinner tonight.

Take care if you go out and hope the poorlies amongst us start to feel better.

glammagran Fri 10-Jan-25 07:09:55

Good morning all. Gosh it’s cold but not as much as in other parts I’m sure.

DD2 came for lunch with DGS2 yesterday. She had a 45 minute appt with a GP at another practice yesterday which went well. He was sure she does not have migraine and has referred her to a neurologist as GP’s are unable to refer patients for an MRI. she is still losing sensation in her limbs at times.

DGS2 has been at his nursery on a farm 3 days this week. Unlike many of the other children he is playing outside most of the day despite how cold it’s been. 😂. He got a toolbench for Christmas which he loves. We got him a radio which he puts on when he’s “onsite” as he puts it.

Really haven’t done much since the start of the year. I might tackle some cupboard cleaning today. a few items to return to retailers too.

Have a good day everyone.

Mizuna Fri 10-Jan-25 07:21:16

Good morning from a mild, damp Cornwall. No ice here because I'm so near the sea. I've got cabin fever so I'll buy a Rail Ranger ticket and travel up and down and across the county today, stopping off to find some piano music in one library to the east. I'll get out at St Ives too and beachcomb there.

Lovely socks karmalady. I wear home-made socks in the winter and get great comfort from them.

brook2704 Fri 10-Jan-25 07:29:43

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve still lots of frozen crunchy snow and no sign of a thaw yet
Great socks karma so cosy
Gorgeous log burner Ash but watch out with the heat!
I’ve a volunteering session this morning but it’s online so I’ve no need to go out early. Yesterdays coffee with my friend got put back to today so I’m looking forward to that and then back home finish packing as we’re going away to somewhere warmer at the weekend 😎
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jan-25 07:32:26

Morning everyone from a cold -3° S E Essex.

I am off to the gym first thing (after de-icing the car) school pick up of GC as usual.
Thus evening DH and I are going to a local Tapas restaurant where we will envisage we are in Spain and it’s warm 🌝💃

Lovely socks ^Karma*

grandMattie Imogen has had a lot to endure in her short life.

Keep warm 🙋‍♀️

Bellasnana Fri 10-Jan-25 07:33:34

Good morning from Malta where today’s high is expected to be 17°C with a low of 9°C.

Not much happening today, babysitting tonight, otherwise a day of doing jobs around the home.

Take care all of you, good luck kitty driving in fog is scary. 🍀

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jan-25 07:34:21

glammagran our four youngest GC are outside in all weathers (wrapped up warm) we call them our free range ones

Redcar Fri 10-Jan-25 07:36:11

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s getting light and seems to be dry, but the outside thermometer shows -5 degrees, so it’s very frosty. Glad I haven’t got to try to get into the car! Hopefully it will warm up enough to allow me to put the bins out later.
I’m looking forward to my hairdresser coming this afternoon to colour and cut my hair. I cleaned the kitchen yesterday and need to do the sitting room today. Apart from that it will be a day of doing my exercises and keeping warm.
Have the best day possible and keep warm and safe everyone.

GrannyIvy Fri 10-Jan-25 07:40:15

Good morning from a -4 Cambridgeshire.

Yesterday evening I went to the local Pantomime it was very good a very young cast this year it was good to see some new faces. It was a packed audience in spite of a very cold frosty icy night.

Today I am going to sort the GC bedroom and see what can now be stored away or found a new home. Then an hour or so with the 5 year old who is still recovering from chicken pox not well enough for school but keen to play games and have some cuddles.

Those socks look so cosy Karmalady Unfortunately I never really mastered the art of knitting however hard I tried!

Take care, keep safe and warm and wish you all a happy Friday.

RosesandLilac Fri 10-Jan-25 07:42:56

Good morning from an icy hillside in south Glos, plenty of black ice here, it’s making getting out of the village very tricky.
I have no intention of going out today!
DH drove me to sewing group yesterday, very kind of him, because he knows I am terrified of driving on ice and snow. When I was expecting DD my car was written off by a van driver who cheerfully told me I was the third accident he’d had that week!
Today I intend to do lots of needlework after I’ve done the housework. The dog has her dog walker this morning, hopefully she’ll get here safely, if she cancels then DH will take her out.
Stay safe and warm 🌹

BlueSapphire Fri 10-Jan-25 07:53:43

Good morning everyone from a freezing Northampton, -5° outside, not expected to rise much today.
Dance classes this morning; I expect the hall be freezing cold, so must wrap up warm. Hope to get to the shops afterwards.

Did not venture out yesterday except to get the bins in; changed the bed and got the bedding washed and dried. A quiet day, reading after lunch.

Take care if out and about today.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 10-Jan-25 07:55:01

Morning all from a chilly West Oxfordshire.

We are having lunch out at our favourite non-riverside restaurant.

Elder son and has family are coming for the weekend tomorrow . I’ll make a batch of chocolate peppermint ice cream for my granddaughter. It’s her favourite of the ice creams I make.

Have a good day everyone.

madeleine45 Fri 10-Jan-25 07:58:08

Good morning Mick and all hardy GN's on this freezing cold morning in North yorkshire.

Loved the socks but that fire was a disappointment. It looked so lovely and warm but when I put my hands out couldnt feel any heat!!! Still I am warm enough, only because hurray for old sailing thermals on under warmest trousers and top jacket and my cheap light gilet thing.
Couldnt sleep, in a lot of pain, but so cold to get up. Best bit or scalded, so gave in and got up as my back was complaining but my flipping leg had cramp!! Ah well here I am anyway and more importantly, as I seem to have been writing nothing but doom and gloom, GOOD NEWS at last. I feel a free woman as finally the blasted insurance people have paid the money for the hotel into my account. I have had to badger them from before christmas and finally got it in. I literally got the little statement to just let me believe it was true, then walked straight to the hotel to pay the money in. The staff there are very nice and they know how it has been worrying me and kept saying oh they knew it wasnt down to me etc. So with a great flourish I put my debit card on and paid the money. The machine promptly refused to pay it out and blocked it!!!!! Well I do have to say that actually the bank are doing a good job, as my normal amounts are that I have my standing orders etc and then pay tesco with the card etc and then get £50 out in cash for the market and local bits and pieces. So the card said whoa whoa whats all this, A large amount just gone in and now being taken out , not like her. So then I had to apologise again to the hotel and had to go back to the bank and take all their details etc , but nevertheless I am straight at long last. Hurray Hurray! Well financially straight, still got no carpet in the hall , missing bits and pieces for the bathroom and despite hours and hours of sorting stuff out and throwing things out the lounge still looks as though a hurricane has been through. So today I shall be going out very carefully for basic bread and bits and pieces, will be able to go into the hotel and meet my friend for coffee with my head held high and then back to sorting out. I am into jacket potatoes in a big way at the moment. Like the red potatoes for it and so I start it in the microwave to cook the middle a bit and then into the airfryer and oh what a warming and satisfying lunch with just lots of butter or sometimes tuna and a little mayonaisse. I usually have cereal in the morning but today definitely it is porridge time ready to face the day. Keep warm everyone and like to think of us all curled up cosy and warm this afternoon. I did very well last time I went into the charity shop and got 4 hardback copies of the ones I have not yet got at the cost of £6, and love the No 1 Ladies Dectective Agency, so it will be coffee and book this pm. Funny I usually get an author I like and read everything they write, but whilst No1 is great I dont like his series set in Scotland. Ah well better to read about lovely warm Botswana today. Keep warm and safe everyone

Good frosty morning to you all. 🥶.

I went for my pedicure and after waiting 20 minutes, excused myself and said I would re-book. I didn’t really like the look of the place , so have booked at another salon for Saturday. 🤞. There are plenty to choose from in our town. 👣.

Today little pooch has the groomer and we’re due to meet our Friday gang but one of the couples probably won’t venture out as they’re not very mobile and the paths/car park will be icy.

Youngest DGD has Forest School today. 🌲🌳. Her teacher has been training to lead this adventure. They have a large wooded area in the grounds and will learn all about nature. Dd has had to buy a lot of clothing/equipment but they’ll have so much fun . How school days have changed !

Poor Iris and you GM. Perhaps you could spend time with just her and show her some of your many skills. One on one might be the way to go and the bond between you strengthened. (What do I know)? 🤔 just a thought!

Take care all who are travelling or walking out.,❄️

Susan56 Fri 10-Jan-25 08:02:58
