It was reported today that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had gone to Los Angeles to give comfort and food to those affected by the dreadful wildfires there.
My immediate reaction was revulsion that well known celebrities, let alone this pair, should think visiting somewhere, quite some distance from where you live that is undergoing a horrendous catastrophe, which you can do nothing to alleviate, would benefit from your presence, hugging and talking to people, and, of course, being photographed doing so.
I understand that they have offered to house someone who has been burnt out. That shouldn't be too difficult, there are plenty of A listers who have been burnt out.

They are only doing the same at thousands of us do when there's a critical incident.......so why all the hype because they have a title????
Don’t we just donate money and whatever items we are told are needed, be there to help whatever charity is distributing food etc if that doesn’t get in the way of the authorities? We would follow the advice and requirements of local authorities and charities rather than doing our own thing and seeking to be in limelight wouldn’t we?

Probably not, and no-one would miss us because we're not high profile so no-one would notice if we didn't turn up.
I will just say, though, to the poster who criticised other members of the Royal Family for going to comfort people when there is a disaster, this is what is expected of them and they'd be even more highly criticised if they failed to turn up.
They do quietly donate large sums to charities too.

I'm not sure how they lied in relation to this particular incident though. Surely someone can lie about something - yet still help people?

The fact that they have done this is likely to encourage others to do the same so their contribution becomes magnified. All good.

Rather distasteful discussion really. People are losing their lives and homes and this is the focus? Outrageous.
So much for Christian tolerance and forgiveness. Everyone lies at some point in their lives. Granted, some lies are worse than than others. However, as I said, at least they are doing something to help those poor people, whatever their motives may be. They're not the only 'celebrities' to have done so.
Honestly am disappointed but not surprised this thread started. I am not a H&M fan at all, and have had no sympathy for them in all the RF stuff. But as others have said here, they would be criticised whatever they did. And I doubt anyone who was hugged in LA by Meghan was revulsed or complained. More likely they felt honoured and happy by the celeb visit. More widely, it feels as though H&M have been written off so thoroughly by the British public that there is nothing good or right or noble they will ever do to redeem all the daft and ridicuolous things they have said and done. But seriously.....are we critics all so perfect...? .aren't all of us allowed to fail, mess up, but also learn from mistakes and be able to change? I am holding out hope for H&M and feel that endless cynicism and Schadenfreude both fuels media hype diminishes all of us.

Oh dear! Meghan and Harry. Another excuse to knock them. If really disliked surely the best thing would be to ignore? I can’t understand the vitriol they generate from most who have never met them.
Whilst I agree with these thoughts, I think M & H got so far under people's skin in the past that, for many, ignoring them is not an option.
Having said that, with most people, myself included, the dislike towards them has now turned to boredom or to mere irriration because they are of such little significance.
We were at a function today, with a family member in the military who is being sent to Vancouver Whistler for the Invictus Games in two weeks' time. People were keen to ask whether Harry would be attending, ("unlikely, not heard he will be there"), or what input Harry would have, (very little, he's purely the face of the games, nothing more").
I guess that's the problem for Harry now. To find some kind of personal fulfilment.

The Princess of Wales calls herself Catherine, William calls her Catherine, she has expressed her wish to be referred to as Catherine and yet still she gets referred to as Kate by posters and the press. I wonder why this rudeness only extends to her and none of the other members of the family?
I don't think Harry and Meghan would have been criticised had they not gone to the area, there must be plenty of absences that have not been criticised, but there's no reason why they shouldn't go if they wish.
Farzanah, No, not another opportunity to knock them. But I was genuinely shocked to see the photographs of them glad handing the crowds in Pasadena. I would have been equally shocked if it had been any other celebrity, who just breezed through when the emergency was at its height.
Yes, official Royal family members do visit disaster sites, but only when arranged and invited and not while the emergency is going on.
I generally have little interest in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they are meant to be private people leading a private life, but this new item really shocked me by its inappropriateness.
Nobody would have cared a jot had they not turned up. They aren't really on most people's radar.
They need to do their best to keep in the public eye. Things haven't been going very well for them.
It's been mentioned that Meghan's Netflix show might have to be postponed from its airing next week. Hardly the time to see beautiful people picking beautiful flowers and making unreal Victoria Sandwiches in California.
