I cannot speak as a victim
Is it possible to remove a topic from "I'm on"
It was reported today that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had gone to Los Angeles to give comfort and food to those affected by the dreadful wildfires there.
My immediate reaction was revulsion that well known celebrities, let alone this pair, should think visiting somewhere, quite some distance from where you live that is undergoing a horrendous catastrophe, which you can do nothing to alleviate, would benefit from your presence, hugging and talking to people, and, of course, being photographed doing so.
I understand that they have offered to house someone who has been burnt out. That shouldn't be too difficult, there are plenty of A listers who have been burnt out.
I cannot speak as a victim
I was speaking hypothetically...

See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya. 👋
This is an incredibly immature not to say downright childish “playground” comment!
Who is it aimed at? And why do you feel the need to be so personally insulting anyway?
Maw I believe the poster lives in Australia so posts early in the day
For the record. I do not dislike the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, I am indifferent, what mildly irritates me is the way they keep claiming to be private people living privately, yet seemed to constantly seek occasion to make the headlines.
I was, however absolutely horrified to see the pictures of them publicising themselves on the backs of those suffering in the catastrophe caused by the wild fires. The fires were at their worst, but they thought it appropriate that they should be there. Having read woodenspoon's post, I am even more shocked.
I would feel exactly the same if any other celebrity; film star, singer etc had done what the Duke and Duchess Sussex did - and would have probably still have started a thread on GN expressing my shock and disgust.
Monica, I don’t think they had a choice, they’d have been damned to hell on line if they’d not shown up. Headlines about how absent they’d been in a crisis and didn’t have any empathy
Lots of celebrities have been volunteering, donating their own money and have kept their involvement to themselves. No photos or group shots. They haven’t looked for publicity but they have shown their empathy.
Why didn’t they have a choice ? ,were they asked to visit ?
were there demands for their presence from the people ?
The publicity surrounding their visits has the overwhelmingly positive effect of encouraging others to get involved and help. It is disingenuous to think otherwise. But sadly there are those who seek out any reason to denigrate them. It is a strange phenomenon.

It’s baffling 🤷♀️
There have been terrible disasters in the past and celebrity involvement has often been beneficial in spreading the word, gaining publicity and help.
Band Aid / Live Aid……..
Do you not think the news coverage of homes, whole areas being consumed by flames 'spread the word' enough? Those exhausted firefighters weren't publicity enough?
In the picture I saw of them they were in jeans and ball caps, I doubt anyone apart from 100s of TV cameras even knew they were there.
It's always nice to help the area in which you live, I think.
Band Aid and Live Aid were concerts and songs by well known artists. Hardly comparable with this.
I don't care what they do. And if anyone thinks they've done this for any other reason than photo opportunity, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion as are others who don't share your belief. But it seems more than baffling that any poster who claims this was a PR opportunity gets rounded on.
Maybe spare a thought for the families of Harry and Meghan as well.
Comparing M&H with a group of top male vocalists, no way
And yes publicity, the disaster is covered on world news , surely more people watch and listen to world news than know of M&H

How are H&M family involved in the CA fires?

Of course few know of H&M, why would they?
Plus they were in jeans and ball caps. Perhaps CA attire.

Raised HUGE amounts of financial aid as well as of course raising awareness of famine relief in Africa. I hardly think awareness about f the LA wildfires is an issue at the moment.

‘Few know of H&M’. Seriously? Their lives’ work is to be known !
Wedding reception of Eugene York, M told the guests she was pregnant . Couldn’t wait a day
Listen to her speeches, me,me,me. Official visits , the same,
she has to be centre stage, in a speech to the bereaved parents who children had taken their lives, she spoke of her joy as a mother, how she had considered suicide , the evil of social media and she never uses it,
Excuses for her doesn’t wash with me, she is totally self obsessed

90 miles away.
many on here seem to be quite obsessed with denigrating them constantly.
Agree with everything you say, Anniebach.
As far as I'm concerned, H&M - private citizens, don't let's forget - didn't have to do anything, so no question of "damned if they do, damned if they don't". Absolutely no reason for them to travel 90 miles and get themselves photographed "doing good" .
Opening their home to friends is a lovely thing to do, but shouldn't you just do it, without telling the world? And do we know if anyone took them up on this?
People can see through them Claremont. Apparently she thought it would reflect well on her and boost her cooking show. However, due to the immense backlash they’ve now faced Netflix insisted she postponed its launch until March. All this is from US news websites not UK. They are disgusted.
At a camp where evacuees were starting to assemble. They served food and donated goods, based on reports. Not sure how much closer they were supposed to be?
I still have not found proof they brought their own camera crew.
