“Staying true to my values”.

So says Michelle Obama as she announces she won’t be attending Donald Trump’s inauguration next Monday.

Personally I think there are expectations around her position as former FLOTUS. She ought to attend in my opinion. The voters have made their choice - sorry Michelle. It’s not ‘all about you’. See the bigger picture here. It’s a State occasion, you should be there. “Your truth”? Pah!

The President's wife is known as the First Lady which is recognised as an official position in America, much more so than the Prime Minister's wife in Britain.
She should attend, if only for the Ceremony.

He is not now the Presidemt.
She is not now the First Lady.

God save the King!

It’s far too late to spin this any other way.
I’d leave it now.

Are you telling posters to get off the thread?

I think that is against guidelines.

Anybody would have had more chance of beating Trump than Kamala. Dud choice.

No, I hate to burst your bubble but she definitely had more chance of beating Trump than you did.

Did Trump attend Biden’s inauguration? 🤔

He didn’t. (It’s been mentioned Whitewave).
But as someone chastised me on here for pointing out a similar misdemeanour (on an older thread) “Two wrongs don’t make a right”.

Fair comment and I took it on board.
Same applies here with that instance.

I still think Michelle Obama should attend. It just makes her look as though she’s sulking.

Maybe she is? 🤷‍♀️

Allira Fri 17-Jan-25 18:19:48

Um - I don't think FriedGreenTomatoes2 would have stood against Trump somehow.

I believe the President’s wife is attending?

Most definitely not my style but you probably know that.

Perhaps, but how could you keep a fixed smile on your face when you want to want to scream "Nooooo, this cannot be serious?"

How do you manage to conflate the two non attendances into breaking protocol to the same degree, because they really are not? Regardless of what anybody says, you’ve made your mind up. Michelle won’t be attending though, so you’ll have to suck it up I’m afraid, as will Trump.

Quite. I bet it will be torture, and everybody will see it on her face.

Happy to be corrected about NP, though she's rarely been on my radar over here, certainly not to the degree of Michelle? I didn't say she wasn't "important", which she obviously is in America, I used "high profile" to suggest attracting much publicity. (Not influential, I admit might have been incorrect).
The title of the thread didn't imply racism at all to me. We are all different in how we see things, that's fine.

Well, as former Speaker of the House Nancy does get plenty of press. So much so that her house was broken into her husband gravely injured and what did Trump do? Make a joke of it .
Maybe, this gives some insight as to why she isn’t attending.
You might not read the ridiculous, provocative title as racist but many others have. It is a pity this thread was created .
I am feeling a bit smug in that the inauguration is now an indoor event and the crowds will now be limited and many of convicted felon’s adoring crowds will not be able to attend .😂

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 17-Jan-25 19:16:10

“Suck it up?”. Casdon.
Really?

It’s a discussion forum. Honestly I’ve never spoken so rudely to anyone on here like that, ever.

Seems I’m fair game tonight.

If anyone truly believes my thread is racist (it isn’t) then report it.

Someone's bound to say it's not really Melania, it's a lookalike.

I expect Donald has had her cloned, a Melania for every occasion. Stepford Wives.

Keep up FGT2 I thought you’d get the reference straight away, it’s from Trump’s 2020 election campaign - Suck it up Snowflake! It’s American casual speak, but it’s not rude.

Apparently it will be indoors because the forecast is for extremely cold weather. The prediction is that the cold weather will be coming over to Europe and the UK.

At least it will be easier to spot somebody trying to shoot him!

DH comment is hilarious !
The weather gods are not looking kindly on this event : 250,000 ticket guests now 20,000 spaces available ! I wouldn’t want to be the one to sort that out !!

Allira Fri 17-Jan-25 22:00:12

They'll have to screen it and 230,000 will be standing outside freezing 🥶

They are divorcing and Obama is dating Jenifer Anniston. Apparently.

This exactly what I heard!

Allira Fri 17-Jan-25 22:09:17

Old news and apparently untrue.

Aniston said:
"It is untrue. There is no truth—I met him once, I know Michelle more than him," she added. Kimmel, naturally, then asked if there was anything more than friendship going on between her and Michelle, which the actress also denied with a laugh.

Why would you even begin to compare the two- if not? They have nothing, but nothing in common. Apart from hair and skin colour.

Both strong women married to famous men
Both with minds of their own.
Both subject to media interest

Of course they have things in common.

MissAdventure Fri 17-Jan-25 22:47:37

But Harry isn't famous now, is he?
In fact, most people are bored to death of him and "her" and accuse them of attention seeking.
So I've heard, anyway. wink

Allira Fri 17-Jan-25 22:52:31

I think most people would recognise Harry if they saw a picture of him.

I think some people are pushing their own agenda on here.
