What do you carry in your handbag

Following on from the cost threads.

I posted that I only carry a cross body purse almost all the time.

So I only really have room for cards, cash, car/house keys and at a real squash phone.

But I can’t really think what else is necessary?

I never carry one, my phone has all my cards on it and goes in my pocket as do my keys and a tissue. That's all I need. It's liberating not carrying a bag.

I love handbags 😊 In my small backpack that I use for a day out of the house I have all the usual stuff - plus a power pack and spare phone charger, small tub of sweets for GC, maybe a children’s book or two, a tin opener (my daughter’s is rubbish) a sandwich toaster bag, Yorkshire Tea bags … I could go on 😂
For a quick shopping trip it’s just my phone and cards in my pocket. For a medium trip it’s a small over the shoulder jobby with phone, handcream, tissues and keys. It’s a complicated science!

An inhaler
Meds
Debit card
Some cash
Keys
Phone
And I don't bother with make up anymore !

Totally agree. Can't stand handbags, so last century 😃

Allsorts Tue 21-Jan-25 05:46:48

Well I and many others must be so Last Century Old Frill.
My car and house keys wouldn't go in a pocket, wouldn't trust them there anyway, can’t stand carrying my phone in my hands, it’s for emergencies when out. I carry cash, credit card and as a last resort Apple Pay. So its a purse, lipstick and comb, store cards, phone tissues, small bottle if water, usually something to post, that might change as a card I posted 1st class not arrived after a week, so pointless. Glasses and sun glasses. I've a bad shoulder, I need a trolley but what would i do with my handbag collection.

Ktsmum Tue 21-Jan-25 12:26:34

Purse, phone, medical kit ( epipens, gtn, paracetamol, antihistamines) tissues and handwipes. All in a cross body bag, and if I'm shopping I tuck.in a cotton tote folded up

GrauntyHelen Tue 21-Jan-25 12:35:59

poppysmum Tue 21-Jan-25 12:43:03

depends what i am doing cross bag or dog carrier if going out alone or dog walking, hand carry bag if alone, shoulder bag if doing a lot of shopping sometimes just a tote bag if i have library books etc
in the bag pop my phone in, library tickets, bank card any cash i have, tissues, hand gel, pen, notebook, usually old receipts in there as well, chewing gum that is about it normally

mabon1 Tue 21-Jan-25 12:44:11

Purse, phone, house keys, pack of tissues, biro and a little note book (together with many receipts from various stores but I do dredge the handbag occasionally.

Elowen33 Tue 21-Jan-25 12:48:11

In winter I tend to wear a coat with pockets so do not use a bag, just my phone, a tissue and keys.

knspol Tue 21-Jan-25 12:51:42

M0nica

wallet, filofax, little bag containing comb, small mirror, inhaler, emergency medication (paracetamol, ibuprofen, and cocodamol(for migraine), nail scissors, nail file. Driving glasses, torch, fold away shopping bags and paper tissues.

I do not put keys in my handbag. Long ago we had a security talk at work and the police advised us never to do that, so that, even if our handbag was stolen we could get into our home and did not need to change the locks, so keys are in my pocket.

Like the idea re carrying keys separately, never occurred to me before although pockets not often deep enough not to worry about losing them.

cookiemonster66 Tue 21-Jan-25 13:01:06

The kitchen sink! due to my anxiety I need to bring anything in case of emergencies!
4 torches - in case one does not work!
mini first aid kit including pills like antihistamine, pain killers, indigestion tabs.
phone charger and phone
spare knickers and sanitary pads for incontinence
radar key and proof of disability
tic tacs for fresh breath
lippy
hearing aid box and batteries
glasses case
water drink bottle
purse

It gets so heavy seriously but I panic if I do not have those things because you can guarantee I will need them if I do not bring it

Cateq Tue 21-Jan-25 13:03:53

My everyday bag holds a couple of cards, my phone and some coins. My DH regularly questions why I don’t use some of my other bags, as they would hold everything I need.
