Yellow weather warnings - sensible precautions or scaremongering?

Just that really.
I find I am worrying myself sick over fetching GD on Friday after school to stay with me as I am taking her to “Ballet Shoes” at the National Theatre on Saturday.
Worrying now about trains being cancelled, as I decided not to drive to Birmingham and back in one afternoon, worrying about delays on Saturday.
I could not bear to disappoint her. This is a special occasion for her - a birthday present from me - and the tickets were not cheap - plus it was the only date that suited us both for a matinee.
So I looked at the more detailed local forecast for Friday and Saturday and it doesn’t look too bad at all - but all this talk of 90mph gales is giving me sleepless nights.

Thank you all. Our boundary fence is large and is always vulnerable, because there is a field next to it and the wind always comes from that direction.
I'm just glasd the wind has died down, but is now snowing here. sad

I was just writing ‘ the house is shaking’ when the power went off. Didn’t come on till late last night and internet has only just come back on. We’d bought a carbonara from M&S with the intention of freezing it, but it said not freezable. It’s use by date was yesterday. My inner girl guide was reactivated and I put several tea lights in a loaf tin, put the carbonara in another loaf tin which I placed above it, wrapped the whole lot in foil and, voila, steaming hot carbonara! I hate food waste of any kind and couldn’t face throwing it out. I’m usually quite ambivalent about best before dates but take use by dates seriously, especially as the fridge obviously was no longer working. My led light beanie hat served its purpose and I read more in one day than I’ve read in months.

Very resourceful, MayBee70! My inner girl guide is impressed!

My BBC weather app is obviously not communicating with the met office. No snow mentioned for us at all. It's now bright and sunny after another nasty bout of snow. Luckily it didn't lie but the pavements were pretty slippy. Thank goodness for stout footwear.

I like Accuweather, Aveline and good old Alexa!
