Good morning from a very wild County Durham. The wind is whistling across the valley where the back of the house is exposed to the elements. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the roof remains in place.

Yesterday we decided to take a trip to the coast. It was a grey, dry, miserable day here in Durham when we left. We thought a walk along a Northumberland beach would be a tonic so headed up to Newbiggin by the Sea. The turn in the weather was a disaster. Heavy black clouds greeted us, then torrential rain belted down. A hasty visit to a cafe, then a very quick walk along the sea front was all we could manage.

Today I have a hairdresser's appointment. I usually walk into the next village while enjoying a stroll across a field track, but not this time, I'll take the car.

Tesco delivery later as long as the weather creates no problems for them.

Wishing all a peaceful day.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s blowy out but not the fierce winds we had which woke me at 5am! At least all the school children can travel without battling those this morning thankfully.

I’m sourcing party bag gifts for six little girls later. I only need to go downstairs into the square as we have a Poundland, Home Bargains and Boots so I’m sure I’ll find some bits & bobs. L’il Miss is having her 8th birthday party tomorrow and they are off to the roller rink. Sounds fun!

No other plans so this afternoon I plan to get stuck into my book and read for hours! Lovely way to spend a winter’s afternoon. I started it yesterday in the hair salon and I’m pleasantly surprised how much I’m enjoying it glammagran!

Good morning from a calm, mild Cornwall. It has been 65 mph windy here but the trees above my patio continue to stay upright.

A long sewing session yesterday resulted in a completed remade denim skirt. Then my youngest son messaged to say he was in town and would I like a quick coffee? Three minutes later we met in Wetherspoons where, shock horror, the refillable coffee has gone up from 99p to £1.04. 😂

Today I'm meeting a friend for coffee elsewhere in the town centre and then must tootle along to the Vodaphone shop and sort a new contract. After that I'll hop on a bus to somewhere or other, maybe the north coast.

Mizuna Fri 24-Jan-25 08:10:30

Redcar, our town centre tree roots are bulging through the pavements and the council have surrounded them with what looks like spongy tarmac. Instead of tripping over them you can bounce from tree to tree. 😁

Good morning Mick and all from a wild and windy northwest coast.
DD left yesterday and I am braving the elements going by car into town to the art group.
Thoughts to all🌺

Stilllearning Fri 24-Jan-25 08:14:38

Morning from South Lanarkshire where the wind is already howling and whistling (shrieking actually) round my house, I feel quite uncomfortable and to be honest wish I had company.

I’d be surprised if any old ladies ventured out this morning Marydoll, they wouldn’t get further than the end of their path.

Take care all, special thoughts to the heart sore.

Good morning all. Heavy rain and high winds as predicted for Glasgow.

The weather at present is just a taster of according to the Beaufort scale, violent storm/ hurricane levels from 10.00pm until 5.00pm. I have hopefully secured lightweight items in the garden and parked my car at the bottom of the drive away from possible flying slates from the roof. Storm doors locked and 🤞 we won’t have a power cut to add to the mix of a very unpleasant day. 💨

I am sorry the visit to your DD’s was ruined by her melt down GM I do like the goose cushion.
A sad day for you Susan💐

Have the best day possible all and stay safe all who are caught up in Red warning areas.

Marydoll Fri 24-Jan-25 08:22:05

Stilllearning, you would be surprised. My friend the sacristan is elderly and he went down at 7.30am to open up the church.

The electricians have arrived early, one was a former pupil. It is indeed a small world! This keeps happening to me!

Despite having left the kitchen spotless, when I went to bed, I came down to find carnage. DH had left a mess everywhere, after making his breakfast and he emptied the dishwasher, leaving dishes everywhere.😡 I am not a happy bunny.

ginny Fri 24-Jan-25 08:25:26

Good morning from a damp and gusty N.Buck
DH has to take his Mother to a doctors appointment this morning. I shall have a quick tidy up and then do a small alteration on a couple of dresses.
WI sewing group this afternoon I, just a few minutes up the road so the weather shouldn’t be a problem.
Later , some art work.
Wishing all a pleasant and safe day.

Good morning from a wet and windy W Kent. Nothing planned for today as DD2 has said we are not to come out for DGS5. I think a little cupboard clearing might actually happen.
Susan all the best
Take care everyone

GrannySomerset Fri 24-Jan-25 08:34:13

Bright and breezy here, certainly not storm like so it looks as if we will miss the worst of the weather, for which I am very grateful. I just hope things are not as bad as predicted further north.

Oldies’ coffee morning, to which I will take my neighbour with Altzheimers, but nothing else planned other than laundry and plenty to read. Hope everyone stays safe today.

Liberty Fri 24-Jan-25 08:38:06

Good morning from a damp and windy but nothing out of the ordinary. I think we are escaping the worst of the storm. I hope those in areas more badly affected stay safe.

I’m off to Woodbridge to meet 2 friends for lunch. Woodbridge is equidistant for all 3 of us and we normally have a walk along the river as well as lunch but think we will forego that today.

I had decided to travel by train and they will both meet me in the station off the train. It reminds us of the moment in ‘ Brief Encounter’ ,not that any of us feel as glamorous as Celia Johnson!

BlueSapphire Fri 24-Jan-25 08:39:06

Good morning everyone from a sunny but very windy Northampton. Winds forecast to die down by early afternoon.

Dance classes this morning then need to call in at the vets afterwards to pick up some 'calming' medication for the cats to give them before their next visit to the surgery. They didn't behave last time, and were like banshees! Also need to pop to the shops for a couple of jacket potatoes, as I didn't manage to get out yesterday.

Take care if out and about today.

Grandmabatty Fri 24-Jan-25 08:45:23

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 5° and both wet and very windy. This is just a foretaste of what's to come I fear. Everything is closed where I live. Even Tesco! I put away as much as I could yesterday so it's fingers crossed and hope for the best. Susan a sad day ahead. Grammaretto fingers crossed the trees stay put.
I'm going nowhere today. I'll roast a gammon joint and make cauliflower cheese. I hope the power stays on as everything in my wee bungalow is electric. Even the central heating needs electricity. It's all rather alarming. Take care everyone

Jaxjacky Fri 24-Jan-25 08:53:51

Morning from a calmer S Hants, lots of wind and rain overnight, standing water now, more wind is due.
Stretch class yesterday, then library, farm shop and pharmacy to chase them.
Grocery delivery later and pub tonight, I need to visit the pharmacy again, txt just come in, all ready.

Good morning all and yes it’s breezy and damp here in Essex, but Dd just messaged me to say ‘it’s not too bad’.

She’s popping in later as the school is lining the main road with balloons and bunting to watch the funeral cortege of a little 6 yr old boy who died last month of cancer. 😢. The parents requested this to be a happy send off.

Today we’ll meet our Friday friends for lunchtime drinks and chat, and then back home to hunker down.

Take care and keep safe those in the red zone. 🙏

Choccy1 Fri 24-Jan-25 08:59:25

The weather girl on Good Morning today is becoming more and more excited, yes, we get it, there’s a storm and it’s very windy, we can all see and hear it. She seems determined to put in an Oscar winning performance!

TheWeirdoAgain59 Fri 24-Jan-25 09:33:31

Good morning Michael12 and everyone!

It's 9:28am and a great chunk of storm is battering us here in Appleby! Some of the shops are having problems with lights/electric pinging off!

I tied my scarf around my neck and the wind is so strong it actually blew off my Beanie hat! I must have looked hilarious as I went chasing it down the road! .... Think of the Benny Hill music ....!

At 10:15 I'm off to my favourite cafe for a Full English and a hot choc with all the trimmings and a CAKEY!

I'm reading at the moment Blood Circuit by Guy N. Smith, have just started on page 1 so will continue while stuffing my face!

Borrheid55 Fri 24-Jan-25 11:54:51

Late good morning from windy Kent. Marydoll thank you for your note. I assumed that MM had messaged you too. I thought Mrs H taught Chemistry - too long ago to remember. I saw a doctor on Tuesday and have been listed for a scan on the lumps on my back and I have an appointment for a mental health review ( I was tearful during the consultation). DH went with me to point out all the lumps as I couldn’t have said where they were and DH knew as he had applied the ibuprofen gel regularly over the last three weeks.
Still feeling very fragile but I won’t dwell on it. Have a great afternoon and stay safe !

Marydoll Fri 24-Jan-25 12:00:56

Borrheid, glad to see that at last you are getting some support and that your DH went with you.

Mrs H also taught me maths. I was very scared of her. She told me off for getting 98.5% in an arithmetic prelim, saying it was a pity that my homework was at that standard.
What she didn't know, no-one did, was that my father was an alcoholic and it was a miracle that I actually handed in homework.

Greyduster Fri 24-Jan-25 12:22:58

Well, there’s an optimist for you! One of my neighbours has just pegged some bed linen on her washing line. It is currently horizontal and I wouldn’t be surprised if within the next half hour it is sailing over the Peak District somewhere! She must have very strong clothes pegs😁!

Granmarie123 Fri 24-Jan-25 12:58:21

Well it's afternoon here in Leicestershire (one of the wet bits!) It is windy, but also beautifully sunny and the sky is worth looking at. We are more fortunate than some. I do hope all of you in the 'way' of this storm are OK - you all sound very organised. I am fed up with some posters (on another forum) who are annoyed with the weather warnings system. I think they don't understand that it's a forecast, not a guarantee and if, in your particular location, it turns out to be better than predicted - then good! I'd sooner people were safe and those who really need to go out (my example is always 'brain surgeon') had a clearer run, without bring held up by others who could have stayed at home. On here, I think we are maybe wiser and more community minded than some who seem to just think about themselves and want, personalised forecasts (and a lot of other things tailored to them).
