Can you give a random recommendation?
(142 Posts)While hiding from the storm yesterday, I opened a packet of Lu Le Petit Beurre biscuits. They were delicious, so much so that I seem to have eaten the whole packet.
Do you have anything you would like to recommend? It may be a foodstuff or product you have tried, or perhaps a household ‘handy hint’.
I can vouch for Nairns oatcakes (very addictive) but also Jacob’s Cornish Wafers way better than butter puffs if way more expensive.
Sadly Mackies ice cream tubs are too tall for my freezer so I’m largely safe from that vice. Though do know how good it is.
Cadbury Boost chocolate bar or Twirl (less mess than a flake) never fails to satisfy when only milk chocolate will do.
GrannySomerset sadly no spangles but a Peppermint Aero followed by a glass of chilled milk is just divine🤤 …and to lower the tone further still
…original Spam Fritters from Iceland (the shop not the place). Now I wouldn’t have touched these with a bargepole at school and was never offered such things at home …but…served with creamy mash, a spoon of peas and a drizzle of “thin-ish” gravy really quite delicious. Honest.
My guilty pleasure is jammy dodgers . However could eat and often do a whole pack in one go dipped in a cuppa 😂

Walkers do gf shortbread, plain and choc chip, kittylester.
More expensive, of course and I haven't tried them but they look good in the picture.
Toblerone is gluten free and satisfying (but not quite as mountainous as it was).
Some Mackies icecream are gf too, but not all.
Mrs Tilly’s fudge is lovely, as are salted caramel Magnums.
From M & S ginger biscuits covered (completely) in dark chocolate. Heaven!
Easiyo yogurt. I started making my own in 2019. That way I never run out of yogurt. For the gluten intolerant I use my normal recipes just use gluten free flour . Have 2 friends who love my cakes . You just need to add bit more liquid as it soaks up moisture like a sponge .
Porridge make with oat milk is delicious and so creamy . Homemade red lentil and veg soup.
I know this isn't in the spirit of this thread but I am still trying to lose weight. As much as I love all the biscuits especially Borders ,ice cream ,most cheese , chocolate I don't buy them as I have no control over them .
If it's a naughty treat my brothers cheesecake . I made one on New year's eve for friends one who can't have gluten . So made gluten free shortbread as base and crumbled it layer of dark cherries on top then cheesecake mix once set a layer of dark chocolate ganache . Gluten free veg lasagna for lunch made with 2 grated mozzarella and parmesan. What was left they took home I only kept a small portion of each for me .
Great post .
I'm in My late 50s and started using Castor oil on My face in the last 3months on and off ..The large pores near My have gone ..Cheap and cheerful too ..I'm really impressed 🙂
M and S Cheddar cheese with Truffle, not particularly cheap but Moreish!

It's good that you are OK with castor oil on your skin but please can other's note that not everyone is.
Ricinoleic acid, (the main ingredient in castor oil), helps lock moisture into your skin but using it can cause irritation and allergic reactions like contact dermatitis
St Dalfour blackcurrant fruit spread - heaped thickly on new bread. Or on your porridge. Or by the spoonful straight from the jar 🫢
Tesco sterilising tablets. Probably really for babies bottles, but I put one in the washing up bowl with fresh water and soak my J cloth and washing up sponge once or twice a week.
And any cloths of course.
Cherry Bakewell Jaffa Cakes from Aldi. I'm a sucker for anything cherry/almond flavoured and these are delicious! Too dangerous though...I have to ration myself!

Nairn's Marmite aand cheese oatcakes. They come in a box wrapped in packs of 5. A friend introduced me to them last autumn. They are now a staple nibble, when I want one.
Adding to my shopping list ☺️
Totally agree with Kitsmum…..Ringtons ginger snaps are really delicious!
I wish I liked liquorice, as so many people seem to love it. I can't stand the taste of anything that tastes vaguely of liquorice - this includes aniseed, liquorice flavoured drinks, fennel etc. etc. etc. But I do love dark chocolate!

Mr Waitrose has been, and the Nairn’s Marmite and cheese oatcakes have been scoffed, and pronounced delicious.
I’ll keep the Border’s raspberry and chocolate biscuits until tomorrow!
Glad you liked them.
Having just dipped back in to this thread, I note that there has been zero interest in my having done everyone the enormous favour of alerting you all to the veritable ambrosia that is MacLeod's Stornoway Black Pudding. Instead, I see a variety of insubstantial frivolities such as chocolate, ice cream, Marmite, caramel wafers and the like taking pride of place in a sad cavalcade of sinful and unhealthy morsels. I urge you to repent while you still may, and cleave to the One True Delicacy that deserves Pride of Place on Every Plate: Stornoway Black Pudding!!
No? Ah, well.... All the more for me.

!! You are just not trying... can you not lie the Mackies tub on its side?
Don't let a minor detail stop you eating the BEST ice cream!!😊😊
I am with you Bodach!!.. Charlie McLeod all the way.. Sublime!!
Bodach, I totally agree with you. I only ever buy Stornoway Black Pudding. Which has reminded me that I need to get some, as I've got a couple of pheasant breasts in the freezer and I like to serve them stuffed with the black pudding and wrapped in bacon.
Dear Fleur20 and ViceVersa
It's good to know that there are at least two other robust gourmets out there. Well done, F20, for gee-ing up that Mackies backslider. And thanks for the recipe tip, VV. I put eight fresh pheasant breasts in the freezer the other day - and at least two of them will be coming out soon to follow your suggestion.

I take two of Charlie Barley’s finest to my friends in Zakynthos, but he tells me the Clonakilty pudding may be as good, and another friend is bringing him Bury black puddings.I suspect it’s a ruse by him to ensure an ongoing supply throughout the summer!

Me too Sodapop!
Another me too here, I hate hot toast where the butter sinks in.
