Can you give a random recommendation?

While hiding from the storm yesterday, I opened a packet of Lu Le Petit Beurre biscuits. They were delicious, so much so that I seem to have eaten the whole packet.
Do you have anything you would like to recommend? It may be a foodstuff or product you have tried, or perhaps a household ‘handy hint’.

I can only recommend drinking a lot of tea :-) It gives me pleasure in life. I used to have various favourite teapots, leaf teas and china cups. But then ended up drinking black tea which I have weaker - we both drink black tea now. The teapots stopped being used when life changed - health etc. And one got broken.

I vaguely remember Mrs Tiggywinkle saying something about "a nice hot strong cup of tea" but can't remember if that was in the book or an animated version of something :-)

So yes, I'm a teaholic!

As for anything else I can recommend - just generally - always have a spare! Of anything. I hate things breaking, being non functional, or being left without something useful. So have a spare. If one breaks, replace the spare.

I've found that hummus, warmed up, tastes quite cheesey.
I like to toast wholemeal bread on one side, under the grill, spread the untoasted side with hummus then toast/grill it.
It can also make a cheesey tasting sauce by warming it in a pan while mixing in a little of your choice of milk.

Warning! Do not microwave hummus in its plastic pot.
The pot shrivels and no doubt contaminates the hummus.

I too like marmalade and mashed banàna on toast, but I add smooth peanut butter as well.

I also like a banana and avocado smoothie made in my 50 year old Moulinex electric blender. One banana, one avocado and a mug of milk.

Not sure about your toast toppings but I may try the avocado smoothie 😋

A whole banana, a whole avocado and a mug of milk would be a whole meal for me!

I have just discovered Snack a Jacks, a packet of miniature rice cakes with a choice of flavours, salt and vinegar, cheese and chives etc and at only 81 calories a bag are good on the waist.

On the subject of household products, a call out for Fabulosa (not Fabuloso) which are all made in the UK at a factory in Nantwich, Cheshire.

Quite a good number of calories and nutrients too.
Depending on size of fruit, that could add up to 500 calories!

Marmite Rice Cakes from Amazon for me. Delicious with cheese, so that’s why I enjoyed MOnica’s cheese and Marmite oatcakes?

( Oh, and the Borders raspberry biscuits are long gone as well)

On the subject of ice cream, I much prefer Waitrose own brand ice cream to Mackies. But having said that, I agree that Mackies is a nice ice cream.

Baggs you really must start eating more or you’ll shrivel away😲
It would just be two snacks to me😁

Scribbles

St Dalfour blackcurrant fruit spread - heaped thickly on new bread. Or on your porridge. Or by the spoonful straight from the jar 🫢

Am drooling👅

A packet of Nairn's marmite and cheese oat cakes fell into my basket today...oh dear....ladies what have you done🤣

M0nica Sat 01-Feb-25 23:33:06

I think Nairns should start paying me a commission on the sales I have gained them!

Everyone is recommending edibles and I'm taking notes!
My recommendation would be a software for photo slideshows called Smartshow, it's simple and I used it last week to make a birthday video for my DGD. It looks kinda dated but it's way easier than those fancy AI editors, I really liked this one.

The £ shops do multipacks of those biscuits you often get with tea or coffee in cafés and hospital cafés. Oh, what are they called? They're rather moresome, I think maybe an almondy taste. Caramelised biscuits.
They're rather lovely.

If you shop in Tesco or Asda, or on Amazon, look out for 'Hippeas'. Chickpea puff snacks. Several different flavours like salt & vinegar, cheesy, sriracha chilli, hot something or other...
Yummily crunchy treats. Just a nice change from ordinary crisps.
