Free to air International rugby starts this Friday night between France and Wales kicking off 8:15pm

Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening Weatherspoons will be the place to avoid as
Scotland play Italy at 2::15pm and
Ireland play England 4:45pm

I’m getting a bit bored with this “joke” but why should get to me as I shall be at home watching both rugby matches and (hopefully) enjoying them.

You are very very consumed by the lack of sport shown in Weatherspoons Infoman maybe give it a rest for a bit it’s getting boring 🥱

I knew who would have started this thread before I opened it. Don’t know why I bothered.

*Wetherspoons

Millie22 Sun 26-Jan-25 08:57:56

It's .... Wetherspoons

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Jan-25 09:02:00

We shall watch England v Ireland in our local next Saturday with free food, who needs Wetherspoons?
Other games in the six nations will be watched at home.

rafichagran Sun 26-Jan-25 09:12:06

What's the problem? Why the negative replies. This is Grandnet, surely you can post what you like so long as its not offensive.
The subject matter does not interest me, but why say or infer posters are boring.

Baggs Sun 26-Jan-25 09:15:51

Hear, hear, raficha. Such rude replies.

If people don't like sport or Wetherspoons, and don't like what the OP posts, why are they even looking at this thread?

Live and let live, for goodness sake!

I'm looking because I occasionally 'use' Wetherspoons.

Too right. As we’re big rugby fans we will watch at home. But I appreciate that some people enjoy the atmosphere of watching in a crowd with a pint or two.
Why so judgemental?

Because Wetherspoon snobbery abounds on GN. Why else would there be an explosion of it every time Wetherspoons is mentioned?

You've beaten me to it. Rude replies.

David49 Sun 26-Jan-25 09:37:53

The Rugby crowd are a really friendly lot, unlike the Soccer supporters that have to be segregated. At Twickenham with a crowd of 80 there is a few police controlling traffic, it’s busy but very well ordered.

BlueBelle Sun 26-Jan-25 09:50:43

Not rude from me I actually quite like Wetherspoons but don’t need a banner everytime there’s a match not being shown there, it’s a bit repetitive that’s all and it’s ok to say that
it’s not said in a nasty way

Baggs Sun 26-Jan-25 10:09:14

'Banners' one doesn't like can be ignored.

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jan-25 10:18:15

Most of the Wetherspoons around here don't have televisions. We were in one last night. There was one TV tucked up a corner showing BBC News channel with no sound, just subtitles.

I agree rafichagran.
I’m obviously missing something here, because I just don’t get the negative responses to the op.

Redhead56 Sun 26-Jan-25 10:23:38

I will be in Cardiff watching Wales v Ireland can’t wait! No matter who wins the banter between fans is always good.

I believe it has always been their intention at Wetherspoons, ie, to not have blaring music and overly visible tv’s. It allows customers to actually hear each other rather than have to shout over extra noise, which I think makes a pleasant change as so many places seem to think we need background distraction all the time.

JenniferEccles Sun 26-Jan-25 10:26:02

I’m so glad I’m not the only one to be shocked at the sneery replies to a thread which was just warning folk to an upcoming rugby match being shown, and therefore to avoid the pub chain if you are not a fan.

What am I missing? What’s the problem?

Kate1949 Sun 26-Jan-25 10:30:34

Yes indeed Ziplok. I think some people still have the impression that Wetherspoons is full of drunks drinking cheap booze. Most are really not like that now. There are some beautiful ones, the food is (usually) lovely, the drinks are cheap. We have stayed in their hotels a few times. They are really nice - clean and comfortable.

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Jan-25 10:41:24

We’ve stayed in their hotels too Kate and I agree.

JenniferEccles Sun 26-Jan-25 10:48:29

Wetherspoons is not somewhere we go to eat but I certainly approve of their no dogs and no music policy.

Thanks for the information. Sport is not my thing, but perhaps it will set a trend as there must be many small groups with specialist interests on here.
