if you use Weatherspoons,a heads up about next weekend

We used to have volunteer meet ups in a weather's pools in our local town. It was decidedly dirty with the proverbial sticky carpets. It put me off. That has now closed. We have another one that seems to be busy but there are so many other options.

But, each to their own.

Both sons frequented Wetherspoon’s to eat when students. I seem to remember they offered main dishes on a two for one basis.
I think they ate both themselves!

Is Wetherspoons the place to avoid because they're not showing the rugby or because they are and it could be noisy?

I've had good food, indifferent food and downright appalling food in Wetherspoons. They do vary.

I have lived a sheltered life. I have never been in a Wetherspoons.

We first went in a couple of them with DC when she was a student and they were very good but that was a good few years ago.
I've only eaten in our local one once and it was indifferent. We hadn't planned to go there, it was a last resort.

I avoid Wetherspoons because both children worked there as teenagers, and later, 2 of my lodgers. Kitchens were a disgusting mess! Yuk, never.

Away next week-end so will have to watch on catchup!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one to be shocked at the sneery replies to a thread which was just warning folk to an upcoming rugby match being shown, and therefore to avoid the pub chain if you are not a fan.

The "problem" as such that this happens every time there is a major sporting occasion.
OP seems to think we need to be advised to either NOT go to a Weatherspoons because there WILL be sport shown, or possibly advised to go there for the same reason. Is this yet another example of mansplaining? One I for one, can do without.
Frankly I think we are of an age to be aware of the incidence of sporting events, of making our own decisions about whether or where we watch them and what sort of eatery or pub we choose to frequent.
It stopped being funny a long while back, I now find it patronising.
(And I would personally not choose to eat or drink anywhere with a huge TV screen showing sport anyway.)

Not rude from me I actually quite like Wetherspoons but don’t need a banner everytime there’s a match not being shown there, it’s a bit repetitive that’s all and it’s ok to say that
it’s not said in a nasty way

I like wetherspoons too. They have started doing a ramen which I add chicken too, very reasonable priced and delicious.

We don’t usually eat in our local, it’s a wet pub so they don’t sell food, unless you could crisps, themed food for the six nations is being bought in from its sister hostelry

They never have the sound on the TV...so its a non issue

I went to a "breakfast" to watch England once while I was abroad at a Conference. It was a earlish kick off, so one of sponsors invited me.
Absolutely great fun, never done it before or since but I would again.

Wetherspoons are always near the top, if not top, of the food hygiene ratings. In two of ours you can see into the kitchens they look immaculate. I have never, ever seen a member of the bar staff standing idle. If they are not serving, they are cleaning, polishing and mopping.

I agree with this. The one near us is spotless and the staff are lovely.

Finding this sort of thing a enough of a problem to feel the need to publicly complain about it seems weird to me. Why so "fragile"? Why not just ignore what some bloke whose comments you've taken a dislike to says? There's nothing personal about it, after all.

It's just information, freely given. People are just as free to take no notice.

We have lost our Wetherspoons and we really miss it.
Ancient Greek class used to meet there. Now we have to pay about £4 for a cup of coffee.

They’re all different. We’ve been to good, bad and indifferent Wetherspoons around the country. Our favourite was in Central London when we went down for a few days for the Olympics - now they did have big screens up then, as we watched much of the Super Saturday events there - the atmosphere was fabulous and the food and drink very good too. It saved us a fortune on meals which was very welcome as we’d had to pay well over the odds for our hotel up the road. This was before Spoons did their own hotels - we’ve only stayed in one of them since and it was better, and cheaper, than our usual Premier Inns.

Our local Wetherspoons is an asset too. We met up with some friends there the other day and we all commented on the great atmosphere and friendly, hard-working staff, not to mention the fact that a round for 6 of us cost under £17.

Our local Wetherspoons is great. The food is always good, the coffee is a good quality brand (Lavazza) and the staff are friendly and efficient. It’s always pleasantly busy with customers of all ages and it’s clean and welcoming. Who could ask for more?!

Decided to visit the local Weathersppons on Saturday afternoon,surprised how busy it really was.
Very few were watching the football or the Wales rugby match,but when the England match was on it was a different story.
The last comment I would presume would be reversed if you follow Wales rugby

I have no idea whether wetherspoons is or has been showing the rugby or not, or if the OP was 'joking'.

But, wetherspoons is a great, reliable, easy access pub with predictable food. It does that job well.
