As I closed the last kitchen I feel I should open a new one as I think that Soop is in a predicament with the weather.
So on her behalf I welcome you all to visit and enjoy our new space.

Please feel free to bring your sorrows and worries as well as your joys and happy times.
There is always someone to congratulate and to commiserate.

A newish year and a very new kitchen, a meeting place for all.

GG...I had a spectacular tumble last June...I was carrying shopping n both hands at couldn't save myself and went face first into the oak gate breaking my nose and as it turned out fracturing my knee cap. It swelled up so much I was in hospital for 4 days. It took a while for me not to have to stand on one leg as it ached so much but within a couple of months I was walking normally again and back at the gym. It's ached a bit these last few weeks in the cold weather but I think any injury does tend to do that...as we get the 'o' word. Sending you a cwtch and wishing you better very soon.
LLFL.. Yay.. You should be there now...I however think I'm in your neck of the woods. We are staying in West Oxfordshire...at a lovely inn near Kelmscott Manor. We are breaking the journey back from Solihull tonight before heading off tomorrow to Surrey for work for me.
Soop..I hope Mr Soops scalp is now treated and behaving...I think an on line call would be so much easier for you but I also think there is something to be said for eye balling the consultant face to face. Whichever u you go for..I hope they sort it.

Redcar....Center Parcs is such fun... You will certainly get your steps in there. Maybe not hire a bike this time!!!!!

Granmabatty...I hope the little one is better and you don't get it. Your poor hip..I hope it eases up and soon. You are like a Duracell bunny most days. Can I have your cheese sauce recipe please...I love mac n cheese but like a really cheesy sauce.

We are back in our room now... I've got a glass of South African Chenin Blanc and he's got a pint of a local ale so all is good with the world just now.
I'm going to stop acting like a teenager now and put my phone away and talk to my DH.
Love to you all.. especially those I haven't mentioned. Xx

Redcar Wed 19-Feb-25 20:33:32

soop so sorry that mr soops scalp is not behaving itself, hopefully the nurse will be able to dress it so it’s comfortable. I hope your online consultation goes well.
gg13 how disappointing that your knee hasn’t completely healed, hope it’s better by Monday.
I don’t think I’m ready to read my diaries from the pandemic yet, I found it very traumatic and even thinking about it now upsets me.
I have new lenses in my specs now, they’re not much different to the previous lenses. Haven’t done much today, it’s still cold and my back aches today. I need to get myself together tomorrow, whatever the weather.
yiayia enjoy the golf range tomorrow. I can’t believe you’ve been in your apartment 18 months, I can remember you moving! Definitely time to do some work on it an£ make it your own!
Have a peaceful evening everyone.

brook2704 Wed 19-Feb-25 20:18:16

Thank you for your kind comments but I think I’m just shrinking as I get older 😕 I’m only 5feet 2 on a good day so most leggings these days are too long - I wish I was taller!
GG you’re still making great progress, frustrating though when I’m sure you just want to get back up on your feet
Grannmarie pleased your audiologist could help 💐

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Feb-25 20:05:59

Thank you for your kind words, I am a bit miffed usually I am such an independent madam, definitely not good at asking for help.

Grannmarie Wed 19-Feb-25 19:41:38

FGT💐

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 19-Feb-25 19:39:55

Oh Grannmarie life got in the way and we now have bigger fish to fry so 30+ years of diaries (proper daily entries, angst, anxieties, mistakes made, good times - all recorded) are still sat in a box in my wardrobe ….
One day.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 19-Feb-25 19:36:32

Grandmabatty I love 2nd day pasta. Please box it up and post.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 19-Feb-25 19:35:05

GG13 possibly because the skin is stretched over a kneecap when bending and takes a little longer to knit together as it’s being tugged on? Poor you. Bet you’re fed up.
🤞 soon be right.

Grannmarie Wed 19-Feb-25 19:31:22

Crossed posts with FGT, Grannygravy and Grandmabatty while I've been rambling on!
GG, rest, elevate, lots of ice ( for your leg and for your GnT!)
Grandmabatty, glad to hear that your DGS1 is on the mend.
FGT, I was just thinking about you and your diaries, am I remembering things correctly?
( Cos often I don't!)

Grannmarie Wed 19-Feb-25 19:23:57

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. I hope the nurse can work her magic on MrSoop's poor scalp. Good luck with your video conference Soop, with a little help it'll be much easier than that long, tricky journey.

Cornergran, sounds like you both had a very busy but heartwarming time with all your family. Have a good rest now.

Hope Grannygravy is managing OK this busy week.

Great to hear that your DH is improving, YiaYia. Enjoy the golf range with your DGC.

You are so fit and active, brook! I'm glad you found the perfect leggings, good for you. 👍

Sorry to hear about your hip, Grandmabatty. Hope the rest helps, and hope your wee grandson is recovered in time for his birthday celebrations.

Jaxjacky, I came across my covid journals recently and "fell down a rabbit hole"! I need to decide what to do with them...I seem to remember that FGT chose to dispose of her diaries, after rereading them. I might be tempted to do the same...

Took my friend to Mass and Coffee Morning, some lovely home baking. Later I had my Specsavers hearing test, at long last. As expected, my hearing has deteriorated somewhat, I have completely lost hearing of some higher frequencies in my left ear. However, the audiologist adjusted ( remotely) my hearing aids so that has helped.

I'm rereading Little Women for Bookgroup. It was the first novel I ever read, a children's illustrated version when I was maybe seven? I have precious memories of my lovely Mum reading some to me at bedtimes. I usually read on my kindle but I decided to order a real, cloth bound copy of this special book. I'll post a photo when the facility is restored.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening and a good night's sleep. Kind thoughts to all in the quiet corner. TOYA.

Grandmabatty Wed 19-Feb-25 19:18:54

grannygravy that's a bugger. Definitely elevate and rest. Brook age 15 doesn't surprise me. You are a slim lady. FGT I make a mean cheese sauce! It was very tasty. I have some left but I'm not a fan of second day pasta. Jaxjacky you've had a busy day.
I was going to wash floors but have put it off til tomorrow. Apparently dgs1 is feeling much better today and will go back to school tomorrow. He'll be happy because he enjoys school. I'm going to have a quiet evening, watching tv and reading. Toya

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Feb-25 19:09:03

Evening kitchen friends 🙋‍♀️

Sorry to hear our mrsoop is having come with his scalp.

llfl nearly there 🛬

Stitches are out, unfortunately the middle section hasn’t quite healed so I now have industrial type strips pulling the skin, a new dressing and back on Monday. I know that it takes longer to heal as we grow older, but 🤬🤬

Do u am back to straight leg and elevation of bot legs, hey ho 🤷‍♀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 19-Feb-25 18:59:12

‘Evening All’.

Ooh Grandmabatty Mac and cheese would just hit the spot for me tonight. I never make it as Himself isn’t a fan. Sorry to hear mr.soop’s scalp isn’t healing as it should be. That’s a concern for you but let’s hope the specialist can reassure you both. It’s been quite an ordeal really for you both.

I hope GG13’s stitches are out okay from her injured knee and that she’s feeling easier. Another here who is missing Blossoming.
Double bubble for you then Jax - luxury travel at no cost to yourself, a win-win experience!

All good here. I’m back from watching L’il Miss at her swimming lesson. Himself is watching a film. I’d best sort out a meal …. 😁

Jaxjacky Wed 19-Feb-25 18:46:40

Hi all, work were paying FGT, not me!
A video call would be so much easier soop I’m sure with a little help you’ll be fine.
Age 15 brook goodness me you svelte thing! Glad you’re settling in to the new gym.
Your hip may be hinting Grandmabatty slow down 🙂
A pleasant walk today with a glimmer of sun, rain tonight, cleaned the microwave, washed floors and got lost looking through old diaries.
A good sign Yia pleased to hear it

brook2704 Wed 19-Feb-25 18:11:51

Goodness me grandmabatty you’ve been busy too but sorry to hear about your troublesome hip, hope it’s a bit better tomorrow
I’ve just ordered a carpet cleaner, my carpets are mainly grey but they’re gradually getting darker and darker .. I know what I’ll be busy doing this weekend

Grandmabatty Wed 19-Feb-25 17:32:25

Good afternoon everyone. Soop I'm sorry to hear about Mr Soop's scalp still misbehaving. Fingers crossed it settles down. Brook you are very fit and agile. I wish I was.
Today my hip decided to misbehave so I called off my volunteer stint. Bending down would not help! I did get all of dds clothes dried, tidied the kitchen, hoovered throughout, ironed and put it all away, so I feel semi virtuous. I'm waiting for her to pick it up and to borrow my KitchenAid to make dgs1's birthday cake. I have whole milk to use up, so macaroni cheese it is instead of chicken curry. Have a pleasant evening Kitcheners

brook2704 Wed 19-Feb-25 17:10:51

Good afternoon kitchen pals, hope everyone is doing ok
Hopefully llfl will almost be there now after such a long journey
Thank you for the hug Soop, but sorry to hear Mr Soops scalp is still problematic, hopefully an improvement soon. Good for you both in embracing the technology and trying for the online consultation, hope it goes well
I’ve been out most of the day, I did an aerobics and then a circuits type class at the gym and then walked into town with a pal. A quick coffee then a browse around the shops before getting the bus home. I’m looking for some black flared leggings but they’re all so long on me and I can’t be bothered altering them. I ended up (don’t laugh too much) with age 15 from Next which are a perfect length on me and fit quite well!
I’ve not seen Tilly on the TV yet Yia but will have a look, what a lovely story

Yiayia4 Wed 19-Feb-25 16:15:29

Safe onward journey LLFL.

Redcar It looks like Tilly the cat has gone global!!It’s nice to have a bit of a light hearted story in the news for a change.
DH has started to think about changing s few things in our apartment a good sign he feels well.We have been here 18 months now and although it’s fine we’d like to put our own mark on it.

It’s been a nice day here, sunny and a bit warmer.I hope tomorrow is the same, we are taking GC’s to the golf range.
Fish pie for dinner.Have a good evening all.
Love to the Soops. 🌹

soop Wed 19-Feb-25 16:01:52

I am truly out of touch. A belated welcome to our new Kitcheners. You will be among some of the kindest and most caring people on Gransnet.

Mr Soop's scalp is misbehaving. He is with the nurse and having a clean-up and dressing-change.

I received a phone call from the surgeon's secretary on Monday. He wishes to discuss the results of the parastomal scan with me. I was given two options; either a "conference" over the computer ( we've never done such a thing) or travel to Glasgow hospital in late March. The surgeon only has one clinic per month. So...we have had a pal take us through the business of managing an on-line appointment. We have yet to have a dummy run. If we can cope, we will tell the secretary to make the appointment.

My heart goes out to all our lovely Granspals who are dealing with buggerations of their own. I wish that I could be more supportive. All that I can do is send you a virtual comforting hug.

NonGrannyMoll Wed 19-Feb-25 15:15:33

Oh, LLFL, how I envy your world-hopping! I'd do your last 8-hour lap for you if I could. Have a good trip.

Grannmarie Wed 19-Feb-25 15:08:16

Hope you're on the last lap , Ladyleftfieldlover. Just a hop, skip and jump now!

Jaxjacky Wed 19-Feb-25 11:08:34

Cracked the back of it llfl onwards!!

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 19-Feb-25 10:30:27

Hello kitchen people! I’m currently in Singapore airport having survived a 12 hour flight. The final bit is ‘only’ eight hours!

Redcar Tue 18-Feb-25 21:54:22

yiayia I saw your travelling cat on television last night and there was an article about her in today’s Times!
Another sunny day here, but still bitterly cold. I went for my usual walk this morning, well wrapped up against the weather. It’s less than 8 weeks until I go to Center Parcs with the family, so I need to be able to walk a lot further than I do now.
Saw my friend with dementia this afternoon, she slept for most of the time I was there. Her husband was glad of the company though. (At least I think he was!)
Opticians tomorrow to have new lenses put in my existing frames.
Night night everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 18-Feb-25 21:31:39

‘Evening All’.

We’ve had a good day. Sofa collected by man + van. ✔️
Himself has ordered an electric scooter. 🛴 Go that boy racer - the Boy Wonder was definitely impressed! Delivery tomorrow apparently. I think he’s doing it looking ahead to ‘sharing’ it with his grandson really as it will stay in their garage no room in our tiny place 😁

GG13 your confidence has taken a bashing as well as your knee. The brain forgets in time but reminds you for weeks afterwards to go carefully.

LLFL you are quite possibly snoozing in the sky now!

Imagine the luxury of ‘turning left’ *Jax. Wowzer! I can’t imagine that degree of luxury. We are Mr. O’Leary’s best customers! Cheap as chips but it does what it says on the tin. 😂
