Good Morning Monday 3rd February 2025
(53 Posts)Good morning from Malta where it is still dark but a sunny day is forecast with a high of 18°C.
Today begins six months of childcare for my lovely boys. They will be going to nursery three afternoons a week instead of mornings so I will have them from 7.30 am - 1.30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 7.30am - 3pm Tuesday and Thursday. Wish me luck, I’m going to need it I think!
Have a good day all.☀️
Good morning Mick and all who follow from Polmont where it's currently 5° and dry.
Yesterday I had a lovely catch up and lunch with a friend who paid for my lunch too. That was unexpected. We blethered for a couple of hours. Then I visited mum. She's still not eating and looks very thin and frail but her cough has subsided. She was brighter too.
Today is another busy day. Early childcare, school drop off, then working in the library for a couple of hours. Later I go for a shingles jag. Then it'll be school pick up and the boys back at my house for a couple of hours. I have a salmon fillet already baked for dinner. Then probably an early night. I still haven't found someone to fix my tv aerial and I have practically no channels left which is very annoying. That'll be tomorrow's task. Have a good day all.
That's a lot of childcare Bellasnana!
Good morning from Bristol. We are due some rain.
It was Candlemas yesterday ( FGT2 you have to put away your Christmas candles) and, due to ‘elf and safety, we are now given little electric tea light thingies. A shame…
I made the quince jelly which hasn’t set. Not sure what to do with it; whether to add lemon and re-boil or just dispose of it. Probably the latter. There isn’t much anyway.
In the afternoon, I had tea with my neighbour, and completely forgot I was supposed to go to DD’s church for the service and to see “her” pink, heart-shaped disco ball, part of the Bristol festival of light. Ah well!
I must go to the building society, pharmacy and supermarket this morning. I’ll do it all in one go, although they are in different villages.
May today bring sunshine in your lives. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
Good morning from s somerset, dry today
I spent over 5 hours on my plot yesterday, I was warmly dressed and comfortable and took some water, I only meant to be there one hour. Suddenly the light was changing and it felt darker and only then did I realise that I had been there for the whole day. I was up and down, on and off my knees the whole time
Still being one- track-minded, I am paying a quick visit first thing. I have a storage chest to build and will be starting to put the pieces in my shed, to construct later this week
Craft group and a cheery natter this afternoon, I won`t be doing much knitting, my fingers feel swollen from yesterday
Have a good day
Good morning from a cloudy and less cold Torbay than of late.
Our bus passes are also subject to the 9.30 rule, Mick. I believe other areas operate similar restrictions.
We were given real candles at our Candlemas service, grandMattie and enjoyed a sermon about Jesus being presented to Anna and Simeon in the Temple. It took me back to my teenage days of being in my church choir in Dorking as our priest quoted from the Nunc Dimmitis which we regularly sang at Evensong.
Recently, I read that our late Queen kept her Christmas tree up until Candlemas in honour of her father who died at this time of year. We only took our cards down yesterday as we were away soon after Christmas and it was actually quite welcoming to see them on our return last Monday.
I hope today is the start of a good week for everyone. Good luck to all those who care for grandchildren, especially Bellasnana and Grandmabatty. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
Good morning all. 6deg damp and rain due this evening in Glasgow.
I started sneezing yesterday and now have a full blown stinking
head cold. 🤧 An at home day with plentiful honey and lemon drinks, tissues and taking it easy today.
18deg and sunny would so welcome Bellasnana. Good luck with the childcare of your boys. You too Grandmabatty. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.
Sorry to hear your quince jelly wasn’t successful GM. Your mention of membrillo yesterday reminded me how well it goes with manchego especially.
Best wishes to all in the sick bay or whatever struggles you may have.
Chilly morning here in the north west . Today it is 50 years since I went on my first and last first date . Little did I know we would have 29 years together married 22 before he died.
Going to a concert this afternoon to see Ruby Colley who plays the violin and has singers with her. Front row seat so I can stretch out my legs if they start hurting more than usual. Only 200 seats so it's a test of my hi fidelity ear plugs to cut out any sounds apart from the music that will set my HPX off. If they work it means I can go to the main concert hall and watch a full orchestra playing classical music. Wanted to go ever since I moved here in 2019. But until I had my diagnosis of what I was born with never understood why my body did what it did just thought I was weird. Turns out I am a member of a group of people who have this rare hereditary neurological condition. But really still weird 🤣.
Good morning from the east coast of Fife where it’s still dark and cold. I’ll be taking it easy today apart from a phone call to British Gas to report my bathroom fan extractor has broken down, luckily I’ve a contract with them which I took out recently to repair my dishwasher.
I’m looking forward to my son, daughter and grandson visiting me on Thursday I love having them visit.
Have a good day my friends thinking of those less fortunate than I am.
Good morning from Cambridgeshire. I went to bed early and awake early.
Yesterday we drove to a local National Trust hotspot for snowdrops and so many had the same idea the car park was full at 10 am and a big queue to get in. Snowdrop mania!! Well we turned around and came home via a wander around a garden centre on route!
I spent a good hour tidying in the garden in the sunshine. Wow Karma I don’t know how you do what you do.
Bellasnana that is an awful lot of childcare.
I am definitely in the lazy grans club at the moment. Not sure what today will bring will take it as it comes. Have a good day everyone.
Morning Mick, morning All. A cloudy morning forecast for our corner of Somerset, possibly sun later. Hope so.
A list of irritating things to get through this morning, after lunch a bag containing coats to take to town to a drop off point for homeless folk. Hope to stretch our legs for a while and enjoy a hot drink while we’re there. .
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning everyone from a still dark, dry Northampton, no idea what the weather will do today.
Was amazed at the moon and Venus on my way home last night - so bright in the sky, a beautiful crescent 🌙 and Venus seemed so brilliant and enormous.
I very much enjoyed Les Miserables at the cinema yesterday, and as usual brought to tears by the ending. Thankfully the 3 hour screening finished in time to get the bus home - after 6.30pm the buses are only every hour and I didn't fancy such a long wait.
Yoga first thing then coffee in the little cafe.
Home, lunch and a bit of pottering then finish my Richard Coles book.
My goodness, I wouldn't fancy that amount of childcare, Bella! I did 2 full days with my 2 DGDs, 8am to 6pm, and a half day 1pm till 5.30,.and that was plenty.
Take care all, and have a pleasant day.
Morning Mick and all, not sure of the weather, but I know it was very chilly last night.
I am off to the gym first thing, then I need to do some sorting out of various cupboards 🤦♀️
Good morning from mid Essex, where it’s getting light, dry but frosty. Yesterday we had blue skies and sunshine all day.
My smoke detectors were sounding on and off for four hours yesterday morning until my one of my sons in law, and my next door neighbour dismantled the one that was causing the problem. I still have two working alarms, but spent a disturbed night, waiting for them to go off again. Will get my electrician to fit another alarm. I feel so helpless as I’m not able to get up a ladder myself to disable the alarms.
DD2 and family stayed a couple of hours, then DD1 and family called in during the afternoon.
I have a list of things to do today, mainly phone calls to make. I’ll go to the garden centre again as I need a few things, not garden related!
bellasnana that’s a lot of childcare for you!
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning from Shropshire.Dark and dry at the moment.
Another lovely day with DD2, SIL and the three cousins yesterday. Now they are all at school yesterday they don’t see each other as much so they really enjoyed being together.
I have a hospital appointment this morning then I will start on my to do list.I am feeling overwhelmed as we don’t have two days together with nothing on until after 9th March🤯Lots of nice things to look forward to but I need to try and grab a few hours to relax when I can.
Gosh Bellasnanna that is a lot of childcare.Relax when you can.
Take care everyone and wishing all a good day🦩
Good morning all from a chilly North Leicestershire.
We had a lovely day yesterday. Bertie is a joy to spend time with. He had bought his birthday presents and we had had lunch all within 2 hours.
When we got home we read the papers and then DH made his 'special' cheese on toast.
Have the best day possible, everyone.
Morning Mick and all from a cloudy S Hants.
Grandchildren went home at lunchtime yesterday, no luck in the meat draw which was very busy.
Voluntary phone today, a couple of phone calls to make and quiz tonight.
MrJ has gone off to work
🦩🦩
Good morning from Cornwall where it's calm and clear with a sunny day promised. My son and I were half an hour late to church last evening as the time was wrong on the church website. A less than friendly man greeted us. I've emailed the church about it. Arrived home to find a roast dinner sitting in my kitchen, delivered by my lovely daughter-in-law. 😍
Today I'll be at A&E learning the volunteer ropes there and will pop in to M&S on the way home in the hope of some bargains in the food hall.
Re bus passes our council sent out a questionnaire asking if we ever used the buses before 9.30 and as a result we don't have to pay at at all.
What lovely memories you'll be creating for your grandsons Bellasnanna.
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I have some admin to do pay bills and send cards.
I may test my ability to drive by
taking a car load to the recycle centre.
Yesterday was Quaker meeting in the morning. I had made an easy Jamie
Oliver soup which fed everyone for lunch. Taizé singing in the afternoon but the church was so cold
we only managed half an hour. I wonder how people in days gone by coped with such icy conditions.
The views on the drive across the Scottish countryside were breathtaking.
In the evening the film was a touching Japanese family drama.
That amount of childcare would be far too much for me Bellasnanna but you are well used to it and those boys are very good aren't they.
I hope everyone has some joy today.
Good morning from a bright W Kent. Cleaner is due to come this morning and we should be attending a U3A meeting this afternoon but DH is not feeling to good so we shall see. I am afraid the long day in hospital on Friday has done him no good at all
Bellasnana that is a very busy childcare schedule
Best wishes to all
Good morning everyone from south Glos where is grey-skied and dry.
I had a lovely weekend away, it’s nice to come home too, I will definitely go again. The tutor does a weekend there every year as well as similar ones throughout the year.
Today it’s dog walk, grocery delivery, washing and housework etc
Sending best wishes to you all 🌹
Good morning from a bright and frosty Suffolk after a glorious sunny day yesterday and a spectacular sunset. We drove home enjoying that after both loving the Bob Dylan film.
I shall spend much of today reading the papers for my monthly meeting on Wednesday so a quiet day beckons.
I’m full of admiration for all the childcare so willingly given to DGC by several posters. Our AC and families all live too far away for us to have been regularly involved in person in their lives and, although we have always said we were available in an emergency, luckily none have occurred.
Hope today is a good one for all.
Good morning! Hope your day is filled with happiness and good health.
Good morning Mick and everyone from a largely cloudy Carlisle. We expect a bit of sun though and no rain.
I walked round the park yesterday after breakfast, mostly dog walkers and one or two exercisers like me. The council have cleared the fallen trees and had a blitz on spraying the paths with yellow 'pick it up' warnings to dog walkers. I've noticed a lapse in standards recently.
We now seem to have 2 pairs of swans, they're keeping apart at each end of the Pond. The rest have disappeared including last year's 6 cygnets which the pen reared on her own after her mate was killed by a dog in late spring. I'm hoping to see a lot of cygnets this year.
On my return, it started raining and did so on and off for the rest of the morning which turned into a dark afternoon. I was busy with my long book which is quite engrossing.
Today, I shall break the back of the routine housework and laundry in the morning, book in the afternoon.
I wish you all the best possible day.
