I can't be around the crowing for a minute longer but there are some nice chats here and it is a help with loneliness and isolation sometimes.

Thanks.

What do you mean, 'crowing'?
If you don't like a thread surely you can just ignore it?

Click on the little arrow top right of the thread then choose hide this thread from the drop down box.

You have to be on the mobile version of the site. If you are using the desktop version scroll down to the bottom of the screen and switch to mobile site. Remember to switch back to desktop site if that's what you prefer.

Thank you SilverBrook I had no idea it was possible to hide threads on this site.

I never use the mobile site as I am an iPad user.

I wish more people would hide threads rather than go on them and complain about their existence.

I hide the games threads because they get in the way. If there’s anything else I don’t fancy I just scroll on by.

Why not ignore threads that are not to your liking?

As far as I know it is not compulsory to engage with every thread on every topic.

SilverBrook Fri 07-Feb-25 09:54:03

I think part of the problem (for me anyway) was that even if a thread has been hidden - perhaps because it offends - then it may still appear in the Trending box on the right of the screen.

For people who use Adbock, it’s also possible to block the Trending element. Go to the red Adblock icon on the toolbar (or call up the app whichever way you prefer), select Block Element then click on the Trending box. The box contents should disappear and remain hidden.

That does of course mean that users will miss other Trending topics what might interest them but they can always use the Active|LastHouse|LastDay options where the titles of hidden threads won’t be displayed.

Thanks Parsley - that’s really helpful👍

Is that really such a problem. Can’t you avert your eyes?

Indeed but the cat is out of the bag. You have read it, you are witness to the growing momentum of something extremely worrying and disturbing. The damage is done.

Crowing about what?
I think you'd need to hide every thread about holidays, fashion, home decor, cake baking, pets, grandchildren etc if you didn't want to read about people finding happiness and pride in something.
If you think it's boasting, bragging or being smug then you're taking it the wrong way.

What??? Have I missed something?

Parsley3 Fri 07-Feb-25 10:21:19

I hide threads so that I don't need to scroll on by. Games threads can fill a whole page at times.

Quite!!

Don’t you think you are being overly dramatic?

If you are really concerned about something you think is disturbing you can either:

Hide the thread - as suggested.

Argue the toss - It’s a discussion forum after all.

Report the thread - completely unnecessary but might give you a feeling of smug satisfaction.

Just sigh, stick the kettle on and thank the Lord you don’t live in Gaza.

What damage?

The alternative is to live with your head in the sand or to remain biased to just one viewpoint. I have a couple of friends like that and fair enough, but they do seem to be unworldly.

bathsalts Fri 07-Feb-25 10:26:36

Totally agree with the last statement. Possibly massively over sensitive. Thanks.

escaped Fri 07-Feb-25 10:28:18

Oh, it wasnt clear. Sorry, Gaza threads.

👏👏👏

The voice of common sense!
When I find myself having a moan I stop and think about the women and children in Gaza, living in tents, trying to keep their little ones fed, warm and safe.

Barleyfields Fri 07-Feb-25 10:29:21

I don’t understand what damage is caused by seeing a thread about Farage. I don’t support Reform but I like to see what others say and think. It’s called a discussion isn’t it? If you don’t want to engage, just don’t open a thread which is clearly about a person or subject you dislike. I don’t know why anyone has to hide a thread, to pretend it’s not there.

escaped Fri 07-Feb-25 10:31:40

Fgs please will someone explain which threads instead of all this insinuation.
Gaza, Farage? Private schools? 😆
I'm obviously missing something.

Barleyfields Fri 07-Feb-25 10:32:06

Farage.
