Apparently he was on site to view one of the ‘100 sites’ and the tractors blocked his exit, necessitating a helicopter landing to whisk him away.

Mind you, perhaps (probably) his transport was pre-booked anyway! Maybe.

Wyllow3 I wonder if there is a disconnect for some reason.

Ready meals on supermarket shelves have little resemblance to food from farms.

The world has changed dramatically, I hope it reverts to cooking from scratch.

My very rich farmer neighbour charges me for work he does on trees that overhang my property and cause no end of problems. I feel as though I should doff my cap when I speak to him. A farmer near to where my partner lives rents out a field to caravans, motor homes etc. The electricity is dangerous and he does nothing about it. The water supply is contaminated and, although he has been fined for it to my knowledge it is still dangerous. He’s had calves euthanised several times because he can’t be bothered to get them tagged. Not all farmers are saints.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Feb-25 19:17:33

MayBee70 not all farmers are like your neighbour, definitely not the ones DH knows.

Unfortunately farmers have been taken for granted in the developed world for far too long.

I support them 100%

I agree GG.

Me too.

Rula Thu 13-Feb-25 19:30:08

Farmers have my 100% support as well.

Does that person know anything about food production and food security?

I doubt it.

A left wing "expert". Knows nothing re farming. A Governmeent mouthpiece.

Of course we all know it, and they know it too. They are being manipulated by the minority of big, rich ones, the minority that will have to pay- quite rightly - and 50% less than all of us.

No they are not

You make farmers sound like idiots. 🤬

Well, if the cap fits. They did all vote for Brexit despite the advice of their own union. Farmers are milking this (if you'll pardon the pun) and the public needs to check the facts before they cry too many tears over them.

Freya5 Thu 13-Feb-25 19:46:59

I believe this tax on our farmers was from his advice alone. Much like, the "old codgers should be taxed more", advice came from one man alone. Who the hell are they in their smug little world.
Talking to two complete strangers, they and their friends are appalled by what this Gov is doing to the country.

Ilovecheese Thu 13-Feb-25 19:50:10

Farmers do seem to have a lot of free time to spend protesting.........

He wasn't three to advise on food production or security. His job was to report to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee on the numbers and classification of people who had claimed agricultural exemption.

What is the 'old codgers should be taxed more' advice and what man was that please?

When I see these protests with such heavy machinery I do wonder about the damage to pavements and roads, and even the building structures. Wonder who will pay to repair any damage?

The same people who pay for the non-repair of our pavements and roads, damaged by any traffic.

Ah, shame.

What about the damage being caused to food production, food miles and food security?

Well we'll all be crying one day when there's no food on the shelves.

Think on.

For a start not all farmers voted for Brexit.
Secondly this matter has nothing to do with Brexit.
Thirdly the farmers in this country care passionately about their jobs and farms and want their sons and daughters to be able to carry on the family tradition. They don’t have time to constantly protest ( unlike the so called eco warriors ) so the fact of so many farmers turning up in tractors tells you how worried they are. Some of the decisions taken by this government make me ashamed to have voted for them.

Allira Thu 13-Feb-25 21:13:03

Well said, Oreo.

I am trying to keep the lid on my steam at some of these posts. 🤯
Obviously some posters think their food grows on trees.

Oh, who knew! - some of it does!! Who grows it, nurtures it, picks it, arranges it to go to market? 🤔

No. But the placards they put in their fields would have persuaded a lot of people to vote leave. And they haven’t bothered to protest about the effect that Brexit has had on them, probably because it was down to their beloved Conservative Party ( more placards). I realise you’re ashamed to have voted Labour because you seem to criticise things they do on a regular basis but rarely, if ever, comment on any good things they do.

JaneJudge Thu 13-Feb-25 21:19:23

They may not have even been their fields Maybee, they might be landowners fields that they rented
All now up for sale here, since brexit

Oreo Thu 13-Feb-25 21:20:45

That’s cos I’m not a slave to the Labour Party and don’t feel I have to defend them from every stupid decision they make

This has zip/ nada/ zilch to do with Brexit so play another tune.

Looking at photos of empty shelves in Queensland (due to floods and broken pn roads and bridges), we are just a few days from having no food if farmers decide to give up their jobs because they feel unappreciated.

We can survive without other items but without not food or water.
