Valentine’s Day ♥️ How many times have you been truly in love? ♥️

I have been married for 60 years and love my husband. Whether I was ever ‘in love’ with him I don’t know. But I was in love with someone long ago, and even though I know he is dead, I still think of him . Is that wrong of me?

Depends what you mean by "in love" (sorry, I mean no offence to King Charles!). If it's that mad time when you can't wait to see your bloke again, even if you've only just said goodbye 10 minutes ago, then I've been "in love" quite a few times! If it's reaching a point where you hold an abiding affection for him and would lie down in the road and let a steam-roller go over you in order to save his life, then it's once!

Just the once with my current husband. Of course I thought I was in love before but I really wasn't but until you really are in love, you don't know what it feels like!

For me once, with my DH we met at work I was 19 he was 18. We had our first date on Friday 13th and started out saying we would keep things casual but 4 months later we were talking about getting engaged, which we did got married 3 years and 3 days after our first date and that was 43 years ago. He’s been my rock and stay all these years. Other boyfriends were just infatuation.

Twice in different ways. I still miss my first love. He was my best friend for nearly 17 years, although I am well aware, marriage would not have worked out between us but I wish we were still friends. First love has never married and has never wanted to be marry. I have contacted him a few times but he has never replied. I think my present relationship with my husband is now more like brother and sister than husband and wife!

I’m very disappointed in many of the responses

To me the excitement of lust is sex and any advantage you can gain from that.

Love is putting your partners wants and needs above your own, sex is included in that but not dominant.

Any disagreement on those definitions

I don’t know how you can be disappointed in many of the responses
Members have posted their own thoughts on a personal: matter and it’s not for anybody else to feel disappointment, admiration or any other sentiment.
What did you expect? Iambic pentameter?
Your definition of love or lust is your own and you are entitled to it.
Doesn’t mean you or anybody else is the only one to have a view.

I’ve been in lust plenty of times, too. But after I met dh I knew he was the one. I won’t say I haven’t since then fancied anyone else like mad - I have - but I knew it was Just Lust.

That was lust and I knew he was taking advantage of me, but... you can guess what happened after we'd been to see the film of West Side Story. I have never regretted it, it was a happy seduction.
The earth did properly move when DH and I clapped eyes on each other, but we were a good match in so many other ways.

Thought I was in love but when he went off to be an RAF pilot I realised it wasn't love more infatuation. 4 years later found the love of my life, together 56 years until he died.

As I’ve stated, I’ve never been in love and I haven’t been in lust either in fact, I think I’m asexual
I managed to have four children which is quite an achievement
Quite a lot of lie back and think of England involved.. And gritted teeth..

but my real love of my life came into being as I became a Mother and those children always have been the most important people in my life.

I remember falling in love with my baby and feeling nothing else like it. Thank you for adding a different perspective

Comfortable love

Only once ,I married him.We were together 26 years when he died aged 52,that was over 27 years ago.

I was in another relationship with a widower for 13years,I didn’t love him at all,we split up,best thing I ever did for myself and him.

3 times before I met DH 55 years ago. Two are dead, and the other one is still one of our best friends.

In lust a few times as a student and in my early twenties but only ever truly in love once- my late husband. On paper he didn't tick any of the boxes but when he kissed me I remember thinking "I want to marry you!" My Mum was in shock when I told her I had met the man I knew I would marry as my parents had pretty much thought I would never tie the knot. Despite the first two years of our relationship being spent in different countries (lots of letters writing, phone calls, cross channel ferries and flights) we did stay together until he sadly died suddenly at just 54. Still in love with him and always will be.

What have you got to hide?🤔 It,s not intrusive at all! In my case ×1. DH! I was head over heels ! Those were the days!

I think it's hard to say really. Love grows, in my view, and evolves from the initial feelings of lust. Luckily, DH and I have grown together.
