Good morning Mick, it’s wet here too in south Glos. I’ve woken up to find that the boiler has come on, I have reset the thermostat but I don’t have any idea why it’s happened 😵‍💫
I’ve left a message for a friend’s husband who’s a heating engineer, hoping he’ll get back to me today.
I didn’t get much done yesterday, just faffed around and walked the dog, one of those non-days really. I want to do a longer walk today but that will depend on the boiler situation I guess, I can’t rely on DH to convey the right information anymore so I will need to be here.
Happy Thursday everyone 🌹

Good morning from Bristol. It has rained all night although it’s dry atm.
The FAB cafe went well, including one lady who is normally problematic with he4 opinion, often distressing those she talks to. Cake and biscuits went down well. The vicar partakes with gusto!
The Ladies’ Guild in the afternoon as also fine. After nearly two years, people have started talking to me! I was tired and dozed off during the talk. The booked speaker went to hospital as an emergency, this chap was an 11th hour replacement. The talk was about the history of a neighbouring village.
Again, as I was tired, I did very little when I got home.
Tai chi this morning.
DD is coming to dinner this evening. Her family is away, and as I haven’t seen her in over a fortnight, she invited herself. Shakshouka for dinner.
Have @ good day and hope you don’t get too wet.

Good morning from Malta where it is raining and expected to keep raining until midday. Temperature only going to feel like 15°C.

I’m streaming with yet another cold, don’t remember ever having so many one after the other.

Felt so rotten last night I slept on the sofa as I could prop myself up better than in bed to try to avoid the wretched coughing.

Am off to look after the boys , it won’t be much fun if we can’t get out but they will play happily whatever.

Littlest has to go into hospital for a small operation next Tuesday. Poor little chap, I wish they’d done it when he was tiny so he wouldn’t remember it but they said he’d gone through enough after being poked and prodded for 7 weeks in the NICU.

DD3 is off to Florence and Bologna with a friend for the weekend so SiL and myself will be having the boys. I wish I didn’t feel so rotten as I won’t even get Saturday to recharge my batteries.

Had lovely photos of DGD Arabella in the US as softball season has started and she plays on two teams. It looks a lot of fun (hard work too) and I’m so glad she’s out enjoying the company of her friends rather than spending time on social media. She turns 14 on Saturday which I can’t believe! She’s the reason I joined Gransnet.

Well, I had better brave the rain and get going. Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Good morning from damp South Lanarkshire.

Today I will be getting organised for a weekend away. We, children, partners, grandchildren and two dogs are heading north tomorrow. Rain is expected unsurprisingly so everything but the kitchen sink will be stuffed into the car to ensure we have enough games/crafts/food to see us through. grin

Sending good wishes to those who are struggling with illness or worry. Have the best day possible.

grandMattie Thu 20-Feb-25 05:59:06

So sorry you’re feeling so unwell, Bellasnan. I hope your cold improves quickly.

Kalu Thu 20-Feb-25 06:03:19

Good morning all. 9deg reaching a high of 12 today with heavy rain predicted for the day in Glasgow. High winds are back.

I had a quiet morning but busy afternoon yesterday. The highlight of my day was collecting GD2 from school. She enjoyed the treat of a Yum Yum and blethered all the way back to hers and asked me if I could help her brush up on her French accent. Bien sûr, was my reply. I love the fact that she asked me.
Hairdressers this afternoon. Hopefully I can find a parking space close to the salon in this windy, wet weather. 🤞 As my hairdresser shares the same birthday month with me I will take in two cakes for us to celebrate the month. He has been my hairdresser for 30 yrs and we are both getting on a bit.

Best wishes to all for a good day.

Kalu Thu 20-Feb-25 06:10:45

Sorry to hear you a suffering with another cold Bella. Hope it clears up soon. I can’t believe Arabella will be turning 14. Wishing her a 🎂
Enjoy this break with you family baubles

Good morning from s somerset, wind, rain, dull, not nice

I had a lovely day yesterday, nothing special just a nice day doing a task at a time. As well as lying back at zero gravity and watching some inspiring people on youtube.

I finally washed buckets at the plot and took some things up to lock into my storage. Set my grow lights propagator up in a bedroom and now have 4 trays of seeds in the propagator. Sowing seeds is so `earthy` and a natural calming activity

Today I have a dry cut, it is not ever spectacular now, it used to be elsewhere but I cannot complain at the cost and it is local. I read that somerset council taxis going up by 7.5%, oh dear

Have a good day

Kalu Thu 20-Feb-25 06:12:22

Happy birthday……..must review.

Greyduster Thu 20-Feb-25 06:24:15

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a dark, damp South Yorkshire where it is supposed to be 9 degrees outside. After Tuesday’s exertions, GS and I had a fairly quiet day yesterday. He was helping me to sort out some photographs and he suggested we should scan them onto the laptop but we couldn’t get my scanner to work. The printer wouldn’t work for me recently either. In the afternoon we went to a local pub we both like for lunch, which was very nice. Once his dad had picked him up, I sat in a chair and fell asleep!
Walking group this morning if the weather is amenable - it’s forecast not to be! Then this afternoon I shall do some baking.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Georgesgran Thu 20-Feb-25 06:38:05

Good morning from Durham, some rain forecast today, but milder - allegedly.
I’m meeting a friend for our weekly coffee and another is going to join us. We don’t see her often, so nice to get together once in a while.
I too sorted out some photographs Greyduster, but most went in the bin. There are lots more - little and often.
My boiler Merlin, is a mystery Roses. I order him to stay off, then when my back’s turned, he’s on again!
Little people are germ magnets Bella I guess that’s where your near constant colds originate?
Hoping MD is a bit better and her DH hasn’t been banished, or worse.

Best wishes to all. X

Ashcombe Thu 20-Feb-25 06:41:24

Good morning from a wet Torbay.

I hope it dries up later as I was planning to go to a talk at our local history society which is in a hall within walking distance of my home. You may conclude that my troublesome hip/thigh is easing, thankfully!

Yesterday's talk on The History of Sexual Health was interesting but startling in terms of the practices and attitudes of the past, especially towards (fallen) women.

I hope your cold soon clears, Bellasnana; I guess your lovely boys share germs from Nursery?

Wishing a good day to all. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Hello from Sydney.

What a long flight - 12 hours to Singapore and a further 6 hours to Sydney. My sister picked me up from the airport this morning. I am so jet lagged and exhausted, I don’t know what day it is.

An amusing story. I had a shower and couldn’t get the bathroom door open. The lock was jammed. I was just wondering whether I was going to have beat the door down when my brother in law popped back for an early lunch. He heard the banging and rescued me. Embarrassing.

Chicken curry tonight - my sister is an excellent cook. I think we’re going to see an Australian comedienne tomorrow and then driving to my brother’s place on Saturday. I will come back by train on Wednesday. He is seeing an oncologist on Monday.

Have a good day everyone.

cornergran Thu 20-Feb-25 06:54:43

Morning Mick, morning All from a soggy corner of Somerset. Forecast to be dry after lunch.

Taking the Mac to the magician this morning for what Mr C calls a service and with luck and MoT pass. It’s nearly ten years old which I’m assured is ancient in Apple terms - definitely not in mine. The magician is good at his job, very reasonable, patient and speaks in non technical language.

Other than that todays excitement is collecting my prescription from a pharmacy and I’m sure Mr C will find a reason for a coffee while we’re out and wandering. Chilli from the freezer later so an easy food day.

Hope bella and all poorly folk feel better soon and can rest when needed.

Have the best day you can everyone.

Grammaretto Thu 20-Feb-25 06:56:52

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. 11°C and windy.

I shall bus to the bank this morning and the shoes I ordered have come in so I can collect or reject them.

I want to see my basket weaver friend who lives nearby to see if she could repair a favourite chair of mine.
I have been informed that I am eligible for a flu vaccine so can drop in anytime.

Poor you Bellasnanna get better
soon. Happy birthday to your DGD.

Have a lovely getaway with the clan Baubles!

Marydoll I hope you have a gentle day today.

Let's hope everyone has some joy.

kittylester Thu 20-Feb-25 06:57:11

Good morning all from North Leicestershire.

A quiet day here today after the mayhem of grandchildren recently. I have to collect my new prescription sunglasses and I have a pedicure booked this afternoon. Sainsbury's delivery this evening.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning. We have just docked in Cape Town , the last stop of our cruise.
We have eaten breakfast in the sunshine and are about to disembark for a trip on the cable care up Table Mountain. Looks like a perfect day for it.
Tour of Cape Town tomorrow ad then home by Saturday morning.

Hope those feeling porky will soon improve and wish all a good day..

Marydoll Thu 20-Feb-25 07:16:47

Good morning all, it is wet, windy, but slightly milder here in Glasgow, with a temperature of 11°C.

We should have had Babydoll today, but the family have a tummy bug, so they decided that, given my vulnerability, she won't be coming. As much as I love her, I am relieved, given that fact that DH is still suffering and being confined to the house in this weather with a lively toddler, would have been exhausting.
We do have Dollie's school run both ways, but I'm looking forward to having her company and not having to brave the rush hour traffic, taking BabyD home.
Dollie has, of course, requested her usual pancake breakfast.

Our fencing repairs were successfully completed yesterday and to our amazement, the owner knocked £200 off the bill! A bonus was that he also repaired our side gate, which DH has been promising to repair since last summer.

Coincidently, yesterday our neighbours also had the builders in repairing their fencing. It was the same ones, who blocked our guttering, while throwing rubbish from their roof. Our neighbour said they had offered to repair ours too, I politely declined.
Our contractors put them to shame, with their professionalism. It was DD, who recommended them, she always has a list of reliable tradesmen.

Some tricky alterations await me, so I will have a go at that today. I have lost so much weight, without trying , that I have gone down a size!!
Our fairly new, not cheap ceiling light appears to be faulty. It will need replaced, along with the matching table lamps. Unfortunately DH and I have different tastes ( he has none, including marrying me), so that is my task for today.)

Bella, I hope you feel better soon, it is not easy looking after wee ones, when you are unwell.

Baubles, enjoy your weekend break, I hope the weather is kind to you all.

For those on holiday, enjoy and virtual hugs for all, who are struggling.

Have a pleasant day, folks.

Susan56 Thu 20-Feb-25 07:21:09

Wishing everyone the best day possible.🦩

Redcar Thu 20-Feb-25 07:27:07

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s light, but wet out and mild - 9 degrees already! Yesterday was cold again, and bright rather than actually sunny. I had new lenses put in my specs, a little different from the previous lenses, but only noticeable when looking down, so have to careful going downstairs.
I’ll go for a walk this morning, then household chores for the day.
bellasnana I hope your cold clears quickly, especially as you’re helping with your grandchildren for the next few days.
Have the best day possible everyone.

madeleine45 Thu 20-Feb-25 07:32:17

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a dark but so far dry north yorkshire morning. A little wind in the trees.

Well had such a horrible and frustrating day yesterday, that I am grateful for a better morning today. In less pain and can now bend and move about a bit better. So rather contrary to expectations, I have decided not to go to the meeting this morning, but to make the most of my abilities today to try and catch up with all the things that I couldnt do yesterday!!

The plan is to do some basic boring housework, but also to make the effort to try on some clothes that have been lurking in the wardrobe/ drawers etc. i intend to get through as many things as I am able and then it will be washing pile, charity shop pile, and throw out pile and try to be merciless and stop keeping things "in case"! In the winter, partly to save on the heating but mostly easier to wear I tend to wear mostly trousers, and there are some good skirts, and a couple of dresses that are in very good state, but I cant remember when I last wore them so they are for the out!! In between bouts of dressing up, I shall continue to try and find old travellers cheques, which I kept in US dollars rather than changing them back to £ sterling, but now of course not usable and need to find them and get them redeemed or whatever they do.

I also know that somewhere there are old premium bonds in my husbands name and at the time I couldnt face cancelling them . So as I say am in a Mrs Fixit mood this morning and hopefully a few things will get sorted.

Last night went to the whist drive, and given a lift by another kind whist player. I have struggled sometimes to move about the room but yesterday was the first time I had to ask to stay on one table as I was in so much pain moving about. We always have one gentleman who stays at one table. He is ninety something and physically not too good but his brain is still in good working order and he plays well. So I stayed on one table which helped. Had mostly rubbish cards and of course won nothing, but it was great to at least be out and about and mixing with people after a rubbish day, so am still rather exhausted from yesterday and will be happy to stay in and get a bit done hopefully.

Do hope you soon feel better Bellasnana. Whilst you know that colds are not very serious in health terms but they do knock the stuffing out of you dont they? When I was teaching first, used to seem to get everything that was going , and so did other people starting out too. I think it is true that you sort of get whatever is going the rounds from the children until your system builds up immunity from the myriad different germs. My pet hate was in offices where some idiot would arrive sneezing and breathing germs everywhere with the martyred look and saying they just had to come in , as though they were of the greatest importance to the company. When I was a supervisor , if they were quite bad they got short shift from me and were smartly sent home, as the last thing I needed was 2 or 3 other people infected and ending up with half the people off at once.

Hope that Marydoll is having a better day today. That actually goes for everyone. May you all have a good day and accomplish something, whether that is enjoying a good cup of coffee with your feet up or being able to finally get some task done that has been hanging round for ages. Take care and be kind to yourselves

Jaxjacky Thu 20-Feb-25 07:41:58

Morning from a damp S Hants, how annoying Bellas hopefully your cold won’t hang about.
Better news of your hip Ash
Enjoy your weekend baubles
A pleasant walk yesterday with a glimmer of sunshine, floors washed and front window cleaned, I also paid a couple of online bills and researched car insurance for my son.
Stretch class this morning, MrJ is on a voluntary drive, I need to have a tortuous conversation with our broadband supplier.

EkwaNimitee Thu 20-Feb-25 07:42:05

Good morning Mick and everyone from grey, damp Carlisle where it is about 10°C. It will probably rain again. I actually prefer colder weather if we can have sun and blue skies.

Yesterday was quite bright. I went out in the back garden mid-morning and planted out my bluebell and double snowdrop bulbs. A pity the flowers on the latter hang down as they are so pretty when you turn them up for a look. I also gave an ailing camellia the last rites and buried it in the bin. I think it succumbed to a fungal infection from being in rather wet ground. Now to find a suitable replacement....

Today, the ironing, then a session of phoning round to get jobs done especially on my car where it is literally taking months to organise some minor bodywork repair on my car. The window cleaner is also due so, hopefully, the rain will hold off. Recent storms have left them filthy.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Bellasnana, sounds like you are in for a tough day.

Do have a good day everyone.

brook2704 Thu 20-Feb-25 07:42:41
