Absolutely, if you are asked to hold a secret you must.
However if it were a child and it was of some kind of harm I would in no way shape of form allow the child to think they were expected to hold secrets but indeed to share. I feel quite strongly about this.

Yes if someone tells me something in confidence I never ever share it with anyone including OH.

Yes, I can keep secrets (having signed the OSA!) but I have a friend who tells me things in confidence, I say nothing then find everyone else knows anyway.
Consequently I never tell her anything; I made the mistake years ago of telling her something then found she was telling others, embellishing it with knobs and bells.

I've only had one friend I could completely trust with a confidence but, sadly, she died and I still miss her greatly.

Absolutely. Even on the less personal level of my former professional life, I know secrets about my former staff/ colleagues that will go with me to the grave.
Perhaps I'll burst someday from the pressure !!!

I once had a friend who confided in me her husband was having an affair, but she didn't want anyone to know. I kept that secret. But her husband and girlfriend didn't and my next door neighbour heard all about it down the pub.
When she told me, I denied all knowledge, but my by then ex-friend blamed me as I was the only one she had told.

I can keep secrets my own and other people's. Years ago, I had a friend who would say, " I have been asked to keep this a secret but I will only tell you". It took me a long time to realise that anything I told her in confidence was similarly being spread around.
I wouldn't keep quiet though if a child disclosed something to me that signalled abuse. That is a very different kind of secret.

I keep secrets, and have kept some real corkers over the years, but never anything that could put others in danger/is illegal.
Tbh I have forgotten some of them. 🫣

I’m disclosing whether or not I have been told secrets, but I would keep them unless they involved harm.

I’m a real talker - but if I was told something in confidence, I’d take it to my grave. A secret a friend told me many years ago is still a secret, even though she died in 2020, but I’ll never tell.
Of course, being a Samaritan was also about keeping confidences and taking nothing beyond the front door.

Yes I once kept quite a large secret about a colleague, I overheard something by accident, he never knew I knew, and I never told anyone.
