soop has been in touch. She will not be on GN today, I think, as she is unwell. Please carry on your usual kind chatting. soop was saying yesterday what lovely people you all are.

Sleep well everyone. Love to all.

Nannytopsy Thu 03-Apr-25 08:11:28

Morning all! I expect you are awake Blossoming - hospital routines start early.
It’s another beautiful day and I am starting to get on top of the garden. I work slowly with lots of sitting down. I have a Hosta collection in pots and they all need repotting or weeding and top dressing. I have done 5, about 10 more to go. Then the grass needs cutting.
Love to everyone

The soop update: "Finished antibios. Intercostal muscle pain treated with 12 hour applications of pain killing strips. Dare not cough/sneeze/stretch as pain sharp." She sends special greetings as always.

My thoughts are with those with recent family losses and illnesses.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 03-Apr-25 16:44:14

‘Evening All’.

The diet starts today.
I could just about fasten my seatbelt on the plane. 😮
Himself leaned across and said “if you keep this up you’ll be asking for an extension strap”.

Anybody got any spare willpower?
No cake, biscuits, chocolate or crisps, no peanuts.

kittylester Thu 03-Apr-25 16:45:02

Thanks, baggs. Love as always to you and the soops.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Apr-25 17:02:59

Sending my best wishes to the soops

FGT2 I put on 3lb whilst confined to the sofa eating hot cross buns, I need to lose it by Easter 😹😹😹

Chicken and ham pie for dinner.

Signing off for today 🙋‍♀️

brook2704 Thu 03-Apr-25 18:15:06

Baggs Thanks for the update on soop, hope you’re doing ok too 💐

Jaxjacky Thu 03-Apr-25 18:29:23

Thank ypu Baggs intercostal pain is very ouchy
The sun disappeared late morning behind cloud and the wind was cool, bedding came in to finish drying.
MrJ continues a slow recovery, he’s grumpy, first real illness in the 26 years I’ve known him, in your 60’s recovery takes time, he expected to bounce back.
Stretch class was good as usual, a good laugh.

TillyTrotter Thu 03-Apr-25 19:22:05

I will join you FGT in the battle of the bulge. I want to lose 1 stone.
My idea was Slimfast drinks instead of lunch but my DD is against it.
We have to do something.
It just gets harder as we hit each decade and I am in my mid 60’s .
This all sounds frivolous to those with ill health like dear Soop, and Grans who are recently bereaved.
I do understand and sympathise
(but still need to vent IYKWIM?)

Naughtyneine Thu 03-Apr-25 20:05:00

Snap ...I need to lose a stone and have a face lift before June 28th... I've just finished off a poached salmon and salad dinner... I'm starving...and no wine either.😱

GrandmaC47 Thu 03-Apr-25 20:15:22

I need to lose 1.5 stones. Five weeks of calorie counting, no wine and upping exercise, resulting loss one pound😱😱
Maybe my body is telling me to have a glass of wine ?

TillyTrotter Thu 03-Apr-25 20:19:06

Neine your husband to be loves you as you are and you certainly do not need a facelift so hope you are joking.
We can all join together to garner the willpower we need to lose a little weight and be healthier. We Can Do It!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 03-Apr-25 20:26:34

No wine night. I’m making a mug of Horlicks and I am NOT thinking about the shortbread in the biscuit tin …

It will take a while, I’ve 2sts to lose.
As a nurse at work said once “you don’t just wake up fat one morning”.

Redcar Thu 03-Apr-25 21:31:02

I put on a few pounds eating the biscuits and chocolate after Christmas and I’m buying more now! I can give them up for a day or two, but have eaten several biscuits today and had a glass of wine with dinner. I need to lose the weight as my clothes are getting tighter.
baggs thank you for the update on soop. I hope she will feel better soon and won’t sneeze or cough too much.
I had my Covid jab yesterday and thought I’d escaped the aching arm, but it started last night and there’s a really tender bit quite high on my arm which might make it harder to sleep on that side tonight. I’m really tired this evening, having had several nights of about 4 hours sleep a night.
I deadheaded some of the daffodils in the garden and pulled a few weeds, I can manage about half an hour in the garden at the moment, hoping to increase that gradually. Then I treated myself to a mini Magnum, no wonder I’m gaining weight! I’ve put the rest of the box in the freezer in the kitchen for you all to share!
Night night everyone. Sleep tight.

Nannytopsy Thu 03-Apr-25 22:14:19

I lost 1 1/2 stones in order to make it into the surgical hub before Christmas and then flatlined but now it’s moving again and this week I reached 2 stones. We are basically Atkins dieters - plenty of protein, green veg etc and very little carbohydrates. The good part is that you don’t feel hungry once you are into it. A bit of dry white wine or a gin and slimline tonic are not high in carbs 🤣

Hello kitchen people.

Thanks again Baggs for the Soop updates.

OH and I watched an interesting film today. The End with Tilda Swinton. It can only be described as a dystopian musical! It lasted for two and a half hours and we took sandwiches. There were six of us in the cinema and two left halfway through.

Sleep 💤 tight.

I often read this lovely thread but do t usually post, however, just wanted to send all the best to the soops

Naughtyneine Fri 04-Apr-25 13:22:16

FGT...I love Horlicks but found I put weight on when I gave up drinking wine and started having a Horlicks before bed time. Grrrrr.

Tilly... Thank you that was a lovely message. ♥️

Usedtobeblonde Fri 04-Apr-25 13:32:15

My GD is very friendly with a family who have all been doing the Mounjaro (sp) injections.
Collectively they have lost a great deal of weight ,between 1 stone and 4 stone.
It is a step too far for me but for the desperate…..

Good afternoon Kitcheners. It's been a sunny day but a cold one. I'm suffering a bit after my shingles jag and I'm cold, shivery and sore. I picked up a copy of the death certificate provided by the doctor then went to the library. This afternoon I had a lie down then I went to the registrar. Everything there is completed, including the tell us once information. When I arrived home, there was a lovely bouquet of roses from a cousin who lives in York. I didn't even know she knew my address. That cheered me up.
I really don't want to make anything for dinner tonight but I can't be bothered ordering anything either! I'll have a think. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 04-Apr-25 17:16:06

It has been lovely and sunny here today, nice and warm out of the wind.

Had a good session at the gym this morning, still cannot kneel on my right knee, but I am able to bend it more.

Grandmabatty I hope the flowers have brightened your day, dealing with the death of your mum must be draining, I found the tell once service very helpful. Most organisations have a bereavement line and the people are trained to be helpful and understanding.

Thinking of the soops and other kitchen friends with illness and troubles 🌸🌸

We are off to a local Indian Restaurant this evening, no idea what I will have yet, hoping a glass of wine might encourage my appetite.

Signing off until tomorrow 🙋‍♀️

Redcar Fri 04-Apr-25 17:22:47

grandmabatty well done for registering your mum’s death and completing the tell us once information. It’s not really surprising that you feel tired, and the shingles jab will not have helped. I hope you can think of something nice to eat for your dinner.

I had a longer than normal walk this morning, using walking sticks rather than the rollator, it was hard work and took me longer than it used to. This afternoon I made a start (again) on clearing the garage. I cleared one shelf, wondering why my DH had kept some of the things on it! An old metal towel rail from the kitchen we ripped out in 2007? Plus lots of electric cable, he wasn’t an electrician so I don’t really know why it was there.

Then I looked in one of the drawers, full of little tobacco tins, each containing screws, nails & other stuff. I’ll need to do a trip to the tip soon and I haven’t even scratched the surface of it.a skip may be called for in the summer, plus some help from the family. I felt good for doing something anyway. I also sat out in the garden for a little while, it was sunny and warm, no cold wind here today.

Have a peaceful evening everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 04-Apr-25 17:31:07

‘Evening All’.

Grandmabatty my go-to when I can’t be bothered (for various reasons) is to eat scrambled eggs in a warmed bowl. Comforting I think. How thoughtful of your cousin to send flowers.

It’s been gloriously sunny here all day but with a biting wind at times. The train station over the road was packed on platform 2 heading into Liverpool this morning, around 11am. Ladies Day at Aintree! Some beautifully dressed girls, some with hats, all with obligatory spray tans, sunglasses and vertiginous heels. Also a cohort of extremely well turned out men, in sharp suits, colourful handkerchiefs in top pockets with snazzy ties.

As you can tell, from two floors up I get a bird’s eye view when people watching.

We are off to the 6 o’clock club soon. (Neighbours 😁) I decided x3 wine days. One will be on a Sunday with my stepfather. Empty calories I know but I’m forgoing all other treats on my diet. Wine with friends or family is a social event and good for the soul I’ve decided! Chin chin! 🍷

Grandmabatty Fri 04-Apr-25 18:20:35

Dd has ordered me a curry to be delivered. She's a star ✴️

brook2704 Fri 04-Apr-25 18:59:58

Well done you’re making good progress grandmabatty enjoy your well deserved curry, your DD sounds so kind 💐
